OT: Rewatching “The Wire” with my wife...

Justified is a must. Boyd Crowder is the greatest character of all time.

I was just thinking yesterday about how much I miss Justified. Just a great show from start to finish. Although I'm glad they were smart and went out while the show was still good it sucks because it means I don't get to watch it anymore.

checking in to see how many of these people that love the wire still vote republican

How can anyone vote Democrat after watching all of the political corruption? You can't put Baltimore's problems on the GOP.

And I didn't vote Republican in the last election.

Agree it was top 5 good. Would put GOT, Sopranos, and first season of True Detective ahead of it.

I actually started rewatching it for the third time last night too. Don’t sleep on season two though you have to pay attention. Was my favorite season the second time through. Very interesting to see that harbor/shipping industry and the struggles they go through

missing the point.

the wire is one massive critique of the evils of capitalism, and one party advocates far more strongly than the other for furthering unfettered capitalism.

I know ppl have tried to draw that conclusion, but what is going on in The Wire has been going on since the dawn of civilization.

I feel it just as heavily critiques the evils of Big Government and the bureaucracy that comes with it, whether intentional or not.

How someone can watch The Wire and claim Socialism is a great way of doing things is beyond me. It shows all of the bad side of that line of thinking without showing any of it's redeeming qualities.

The Wire is good.
Breaking Bad is really good.
Banshee was better than those.
GoT is great.
Sons of Anarchy is in a class of its own.

My third time and still the best show to ever hit television!

1A- Wire
1B- Sopranos

The Wire as the Best Show Ever to Hit TV...

you really cant help yourself, can you? no worries, there is alot of that around here

i find it ironic that, given the show's themes, it's beloved by many people who lean conservative. that's all i was pointing out. no need to get pissy.

i never said this. merely pointed out that the show's creator set out to make a show that demonstrated the way capitalism has, in part, facilitated the destruction of institutions. and given that, i find it funny when that's lost on the conservatives who love the show and don't analyze it on a level more critically than "oh wow that omar guy is a real badass."

And as I said, capitalism, what while not perfect, is by far the best option. All other options suck. Taking personal responsibility for your lot in life rather than blaming others and not looking in the mirror is the answer.

I lean right and did analyze it more. I finished the show wondering how complex of a problem it is and how no one, particularly on the Left, has any clue as how to fix it.

The writer got eye rolls when he made that claim, and the claim is still getting eye rolls. He (and you) are looking for a right-wing boogie man to pin the blame on. Also, if he (and you) believe the show is in any way a critique of Capitalism, then it's a safe bet he would prefer a more Socialistic economic policy.

If I were to blame anyone it would be the bloated government full of apathetic Liberals. Even if they did care at one time they have stopped due to the realization nothing will ever get fixed in a city like Baltimore.

I honestly don't get where you can make the comment about the theme, yet enjoy the show as a Liberal. All of the policies you would be in favor of have come through Baltimore and failed.

I'm pretty sure neither a liberal or conservative agenda will work when they include rampant institutional corruption like has been experienced in a place like Baltimore. That City was failed by individual greed more than any system. Many people there (individuals, public sector, private sector) have their hand out looking to get paid to make things happen. That is not an ideological problem, it is a people problem.
