Our gas water heater is near the end of it's useful life (Apr 2010). I had the guys out to service it about a year ago, and they said with how long it had been since prior service (who knows on prior owners) as well as general age, it was safer to let a sleeping dog lie and not clean it out and risk sediment causing a pinhole leak or other damage. So, I want to replace it before it dumps 50 gallons in the house unexpectedly.
Is it worth it to go tankless? Cost savings due to better efficiency, or just everybody can take hotter showers for longer? Does it adequately service multiple things at the same time (ie shower + washing machine)? Stick with tankless gas or go electric? Or just stick with a tank?
