OT: Tariff Economics Discussion

Trump is game changing but everyone else was doing it anyway so you can’t complain. Don’t bother trying to understand

I wish people would realize the stock market isn’t all about the uber rich. We’re talking about middle class inheritances and 401ks getting smacked.

That's the point that I would make.

I am not completely against the idea of leveling the playing field, but this "RIP the bandaid" off approach is crushing many who don't either have the time to recover(elderly or retired), or don't make enough to offset the increased costs.

This could have been done with some actual strategy and understanding, but instead we've got morons adding tariffs to penguins.
If he continues with this path, it might be good 10 years down the road, but how many thousands will be wiped out along the way? How will it feel when it's your parents freaking out when their retirement accounts have bottomed out and they aren't able to work any longer?

This shit is incredible.

It is absolutely embarrassing to anyone who has 1) taken an economics course in their lifetime and 2) knows how math works.

Lets not forget: The selling point to the American people is that we are getting ripped off, so we are going to rip off other nations. While imposing a sales TAX on us citizens and us companies. If the goal was to bring back jobs to America, we all know that the funding and infrastructure have to exist for that first. Prices on everything are going to go up. Inflation caused by a pandemic was nothing compared to whats about to happen.

If these tariffs remain in place for any number of years, Black rock will own almost every piece of real estate and balance sheet in America. While the GOP looks to gut and deregulate government oversight.

It's fun looking back at ole Black Rock and how they helped create the 08 financial crisis, and how they benefited the most from it. It looks like their play book to me, cause chaos, hurt the markets, buy everything on the cheap while everyone else has NO liquid.

Did they propose imposing high tariffs (taxes on Americans) against every country on the planet except for Russia? Did they propose tariffs against countries that can't afford to buy our goods like Cambodia and Vietnam?

I can look at my brokerage account, my 401k and see the recession on the horizon to understand why I'm mad.

It's the economy stupid.
The Russia statement again shows your irrationality. There are no tariffs on Russia because we aren't supposed to be trading with them at all due to trade restrictions.

The day of reckoning was coming for your 401k whether you liked it or not. Buffet had accumulated $300B in cash because the market was at the highest valuation in years. That was always going to correct itself, it was just a matter of when.

But fear not, Your 401k will be much better off in the long run.

It is everyone else's fault. Maga gave Putin's puppet the keys to the US and global economy

Trump will blame Powell pressuring for no debt limit and a sovereign wealth fund while destroying the USD as the reserve currency for global trade.

Not thousands. Millions.

Tariffs on penguins and invented foreign tariff numbers.

Your critique is fair.

From Trumps point of view i think he thinks it's now or never. He got unfairly bogged down in his first term and no one EVER does anything to cooperate with him. In fact, it's the exact opposite. They make up lies to impede him. So, i don't think he is wrong to think that if he were more strategic those who oppose his strategies will just slow walk him. And nothing will ever get done.

He can't get re-elected so might as well spend his political capital how he wants to spend it. And he wants change and the only way not to get slow walked is to rip the band aid off.

Is that it? He's openly said he's considered it so we must be trading with them, even though its not a large amount of goods.

"Trump said last month he is weighing additional sanctions and tariffs on Russia as a way to bring Moscow to the negotiating table."

Now do the covid shots.
The definition of a red herring, and you don’t know my opinion anyway.

Stock market trading at an all time high? Eh let’s shave several trillion off that and say we were due for it anyway.

This whole policy is nothing more than a hideously inefficient tax and spend policy that Trump managed to market to you. God bless

It is absolutely exactly what i voted for.

And it's not an overly simple analogy. I took it directly from Trumps economic advisor who is a doctorate at MIT.

Folks to those who are blinking

Double down on the tariffs. Obviously, there are a lot of weak hearted and weak-kneed people on here who are afraid to stare down the devil and death figuratively.

The policies of President Trump have been a long time in coming due to poor leadership in our government and self-serving in the government.

I am 100 % behind Trump and his policies and say let it bleed till the other sides blink, and they will.

America has too long been abused by people who want the US to solder the burdens at the American people's expense.

You may die from this illness, but you’ll feel a lot better afterwards.
WHy would anyone trust Trump? We need 4 viable political parties, Can:t fix stupid or gullible, but at least that would facilitate cooperation across political party lines

Market Dow to hit 50,000 in two years. My Nostradamus prediction.

The Chinese don’t have elections to worry about.

Right, the middle class bore the burden of stock market record highs for far too long, and the poor suffered for too long paying less for goods than they should be paying.

I’ve never voted for a democrat in a national election. I’m actually a fiscal conservative. What did I say that was liberal?
Pay no attention to him because he thinks anyone who doesn't adhere to hard-core maga orthodoxy is a liberal and he does it to shame you from posting. I'm a liberal but I could tell you were a moderate Republican and I appreciate your takes.

Oh you mean the ones that got us $37 trillion in debt with record inflation and rising interest rates running a $2 trillion deficit that hollowed out the middle class of America?

Those PhD Economist?
Those, the one’s that advised Trump it make the first cash dump when he signed billions of stimulus checks back in his first term. Note that he is not responsible for all of that, but a significant portion nonetheless the less.

In the long run, we are all dead.

Well, I'm not totally against these tariffs as a tool to bring more jobs in. The thing is that the stuff that the US starts to make is going to cost more due to labor here vs labor abroad. BUT transportation costs will be down as you are literally shipping the stuff from China half way around the world. We'll see how much those two opposing forces cause prices to move, but I suspect they will move up. And they won't come back down b/c you'll have to keep the tariffs in place, or the same thing will happen as cheap goods will come in and take over.

Anyway, Trump ran on doing this and he got elected, so IMHO, he gets to do it his way. He's got over a year and a half to make his case and show results. The midterms will be a good measuring stick on whether the citizens like what he's doing.

As I said when Biden was president and all the Trumpians were crying, pissing, and moaning about prices. My lifestyle hasn't changed at all. Now that Trump's President, I can say EXACTLY the same. My lifestyle hasn't changed at all and I don't look for it to.

That tracks. Retired boomer who enjoyed the best payrate ratio compared to purchasing power, complains in big fonts as if that underlines his rambling. To people who will be buried under the burden that these policies will enforce. Guy bought his first house for 50k, and we can't buy homes right now for less that 400k. Boomers completely used up their boom, and then just crap on everyone and everything that calls into question their world views.

Two thoughts:

Your lifestyle will change if we have a recession and you get laid off.

If we do bring manufacturing back home, where will the tariff money come from that he says will make us rich?

I can't fathom how anyone can support how this administration is currently using tariffs. The waffling and unpredictability is amateur hours stuff. His use of them in his first term was much more exacting and worked perfectly. What is scary is how Trump is demanding everyone in the party parrots his rhetoric or he will unleash on them. It is like the Republican party has become a bunch of lemmings, your not even allowed to disagree or you will be punished? I question how that is democratic, it almost sounds like a different form of government...

Seeing you’re not in the level needed to understand, your response is understandable.

Ignorance with an agenda is quite a sight.
An agenda is ignoring the evidence smacking you in the face while still claiming everything is coming up roses.

You 40 percenters are a weird group.

Again, I must ask...did you not notice this phenomenon during the run-up to his first term? I mean just use our dearly beloved Lindsey Graham and Nikki Haley as case studies.

How is this news to anyone who has been paying attention to this MAGA cult and their constant threats of political violence? Go do some research on Adam Kinzinger and the feedback he got from fine Christian folk once he voiced concerns about Trump.

Again, your agenda combined with your circumstances allows me to understand your response.

And so we’re clear, it’s 1%er.

The Republicans in Congress deserve to get voted out if they completely capitulate to this. Why are they anyway if they think the President has the authority to slap a tariff on every country on Earth without their input?

The Republican will be admired for having the balls to ride the train over the cliff and turn it into a plane as America is going to soar from the consequences of trumps actions

Don't fight it as this is the Salmon run that is the rebirth of a Golden Age not just for America but for the World and all humanity
