To set the table: I know I know squat about investing.
I've got a badly underperformimg IRA (my wife's) that is down in the tens of thousands from the crash a few years ago. I haven't put anything into this in 3+ years (since she's got an employer matched 401k). Im ready to cut my losses and get this performing.
Aside from that I have 20-30k that I want to put to work. Some of this I want for kids college (529?), some I want to invest unencumbered.
With all the disclaimers about taking investment advice from a sports forum, what would you do if you were me?
