@Larry_Williams Soooo, I’m pretty certain I am now in agreement that TTB may be the best band in America currently speaking and maybe top 5 all time if not better than that. I hadn’t see them since 2018 at Skyla in Charlotte when Marcus King opened and Drive By Truckers in the middle that night. A driving rainstorm hit as soon as they played their first note and they were still on fire then with MK coming out to encore Whipping Post if I recall correctly. It was a great show and saw them at Thomas Wolfe in Asheville I think before that or it may have been after not sure at this point. But you said they were the best thing going as I think you were taking your kids to The Beacon to see them last year maybe ?
Well, I saw them at The Revelry in Charlotte Monday night in a private show for Charlotte Music Club which is a new deal that’s attracting heavy hitters for sure. I saw Greensky Bluegrass and Molly Tuttle opened for them last October for the inaugural show. Venue only holds 1000 people and some dude who’s hedge fund manager started this club. I also saw Goose two weeks ago November 4th then TTB Monday night. Goose had double the amount of people there roughly and they lit that place up for sure. Greensky was also super tight last year and love Molly Tuttle too.
But, even though they had skeleton crew with no horns and only Mike Matteson maybe one more backup singer , they came in there setting the place ablaze!
I echo your sentiments that are most definitely tighter than ever and that nonverbal connection between Susan/Derek has gotten even better.
I see them with my ex wife numerous times and their songs/lyrics all spoke to me big time before divorce. However in the current, they’re all perfect because a lot of them touch on what happened in the nasty , inhumane split between us.
They encored with “Guilded Splinters” in which I’ve seen Panic do many times over. Derek killing the slide with Matteson belting and Susan backing was just a magical ending to an amazing night of music. I really forgot how much I loved them and they sure put it down to remind me loudly as well as precise clearness. And this was after two nights at Ovens Auditorium last week then 2 tour closers at the Fabulous Fox in Atlanta as I’m sure you knew. So I was wondering how hard this bring it and they all but burnt the place down with a clean tightness like I haven’t heard in a while !
I love goose to the end and back but those dudes have really only been doing it hardcore since 2019 when Peach Festival show in Pennsylvania pretty much put them on the map.
So, I had to circle back to say I wholeheartedly agree with you even though I do think Panic was cooking it up too before Jimmy H was diagnosed. Susan’s voice has seemingly gotten even more powerful and Matteson crushed Guilded for sure. Derek was his typical boss self shredding it all night and I like the new dude on the keys. Hate that Kofi Burbridge is gone way too soon but I thought they sounded absolutely amazing. Super solid setlist and the people that were in the tiny joint were all feeling them for sure.
Just a wonderful night of music and Goose also melted it down in the same place. I would highly recommend checking out Charlotte Music Club’s website as it’s expensive but totally worth it. You buy in blindly but I already heard next years
4 shows are inked and said to be super solid once again. This year was Wilco, Nathaniel Ratliffe , Goose and TTB. So imagine next year will bring more hear and everything is included once you buy in. It’s like catching them at a bar or tiny venue when they first started as there were probably about 450 there maybe .
Now I’m back down the rabbit hole with them again as I’m able to handle and enjoy the lyrics again while the instruments have always been so tight. I would rank them near them near the top of all time bands and that was definitely a top 5 show ever for me. Panic 125 times , Goose 10, Billy Strings 10 and that was only my 4th TTB show while by far the best ! I simply cannot fathom how amazing they were at The Beacon! Had 3 of 5 nights with Panic lined up with my best friends since childhood but Covid cancelled it 2x and
The reschedule was
In July and I simply can’t go on runs in the summer due to managing a marina. But I’m gonna get there and the Capitol Theater sooner rather than later
As I’ve heard nothing but amazing things!
