OT: The Red Carpet

I was thinking about the Red Carpet today and the guy that ran it back in 1971 when I started at Clemson. Does anyone know him and know how he got the nickname "Spoon"? Lot of memories of that place. Of course, I'm sure there's a lot I didn't remember the next morning. TIA
