Here is my situation. I live and work in the UAE at a nuclear plant. The nuclear plant is in the middle of nowhere and the company puts us up in housing nearby akin to an army base. I live in a hotel-like room with no cooking facilities. They have a cafeteria and provide meals for folks who live here. On the weekends I tend to travel to Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

So here is my question: do I need to claim these as extra benefits on my taxes? I did last year, but now I am beginning to question that. To me, it's not an extra benefit at all - its a necessity for the company to do it because there really isn't any other housing around or places to eat. Would appreciate your input. Let me know if you have any questions. For your trouble:

Edit to add that i am an independent contractor and the company is UAE based.
