OT: Vaccine Passports

Will you use or patronize a business or event that requires a digital vaccine passport?

I would’ve voted in this poll if the wording of your options wasn’t so leading and biased. Because it is a valid and curious question.

But, as it is....Off to the round table with this troll ——>
I'm open to suggestion for another poll reply. What do you have?

No go for me. Entirely too much overreach. This is the slippery slope people talk about. Think about this.... had you mentioned this 6 months ago you would have been deemed a Conspiracy Theorist.
People were hoping for something like this 6 months ago, were they not? If it were a government requirement, it'd be different. As it is, this hopefully will actually allow us to do more than we otherwise would be able to do.

I guess what we really ought to hope for is that enough people get vaccinated quickly that we won't need to worry about showing proof. This might be helpful in the meantime, though.

Doesn't sound like it'll be a government thing, although the government may help confirm the validity of passports. I'm fine with businesses requiring this for a little while, if it means we can start having concerts and big events.
This was already going to happen without the passports.

It's amazing the crap rich white people think up. Are we gonna make everyone carry a smartphone to support this? How will the economically and technologically disadvantaged comply?

Don't know, but it seems like you could just hand somebody something when they get vaccinated.

If you don't want the flu. Get the flu shot.
If you don't want covid. Get the covid vaccine.

Don't waste government money enforcing an overreaching and expensive policy that will need another oversight committee in charge of for something that should be your choice. I shouldn't have to tell you if I have had the vaccine or not. That's my business and my medical history. If you are scared of me because I don't have the vaccine then why don't you just get the vaccine yourself? You know....Just like the flu shot.

Also, what if developing natural antibodies and T-Cells is better long term for those not at risk by helping them to ever better fight off future strains and viruses as they get older? Does that medical science not count for something either?

For at risk people, the vaccine absolutely makes a ton of sense. I HIGHLY encouraged all of my family who are old or at risk to get the vaccine. For those who are young and/or not at risk, the benefits of fighting it off naturally may be superior to temporary vaccination. It should be your choice.

I am happy to show my VAMs proof of vaccination card. I am sick of being asked to wear a mask inside businesses when I am no longer a threat to infect others or myself with the virus! A little common sense would be appreciated but I guess common sense is at a shortage among politicians and their sheep these days! Pathetic!!

They're not talking about having legal requirements for vaccination, they're talking about businesses and other organizations requiring it to participate or attend certain things. Maybe you could have big events sooner if you require vaccination to attend. All the government is talking about doing right now is coming up with a way to validate whether you've been vaccinated or not.

Also, there is no medical science saying anything like the bolded part above.

Having a hard time following you at all, here.
Is it reasonable to think that there would be mission creep on a digital passport that limits accessibility and gathering based on any arbitrary "public good" requirement? History says yes, very much so. Could it eventually be extended to ideological loyalty? Perhaps....

Will our masters give up their emergency powers willingly? I think we know that answer. "It's for your own good to keep these emergency powers going because variants and stuff..."

Well, I don't really think there's an arbitrary public good when we're talking about a public health emergency, and when what we're talking about is private businesses and other organizations requiring vaccination for participation or attendance. Once again, this isn't the government excluding anybody for not being vaccinated (although school attendance vaccination requirements are common and long-standing), it's the government basically validating whatever document you might use to show that you've been vaccinated. It's really not a bad idea if you want to go ahead and start having big events before a lot of people are vaccinated.

Have our masters ever shown the ability to know where a sensible line is located?

You still have to take your shoes off at the airport ... unless you’re Pre-Check/Global Entry

the Government just doesn’t “do things” for”right now”.

I think we can agree that viruses are different than air travel. We’ve had public health measures in place before that went away.

Would this violate HIPPA Laws in any way? I guess a "voluntary" vaccine is not the same as an illness but it is still an individual's personal health info. Things like this scare me because I HATE having that feeling of giving away more to the Government.

It's time to start calling out people like Trevor did today the with Satan shoe. Biden administration is working on the plan so you can deny its not a government thing but you're wrong. Anytime you would like to discuss Biden's policies let's go. It's a circus in DC with Biden being the ringmaster. It's time to start calling out the clowns following him.

All this says is that the government is helping to validate people’s proof of vaccination. It doesn’t say they’re trying to require it, or force businesses to require it. In fact, today Ron DeSantis said Florida would be banking businesses from using these passports, which doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. I usually like DeSantis, but I think he’s pandering on this. It’s one of the least objectionable things the Biden admin has done so far.

No, because they’re not talking about forcing you to give them your protected health information. You’d be voluntarily giving it to attend a concert or something just like you would for school or a job or going to certain countries, with the difference hopefully being that a passport would make it easier to prove your status. Hopefully, it wouldn’t be very widely used except for stuff with big crowds or nursing homes, and it wouldn’t be needed for long because a lot of people will be vaccinated by this fall.

Actually, now that I think about it, maybe a fairly good analogy for this would be TSA pre-check
“Oh you want to get through our expensive ineffective screening process that is all there for show quicker???? Ok, allow us to violate your privacy and run a background check”.

I have both Pre-check and global entry ... of course I haven’t been anywhere in almost a year and a half

I'm sure you can't see where this is headed because your eyes are covered with wool. In this article it reads

So the idea of a “vaccine passport,” which would allow people to prove their fully-vaccinated status in order to gain access to certain events or spaces, is understandably quite alluring. Some media outlets including the Washington Post and CNN earlier said President Joe Biden’s administration is working with federal agencies as well as private entities to create such a thing for Americans.

Governor DeSantis sees what Biden is doing and putting a stop to the nonsense.

So where is it heading, since you’re woke to it?

It depends on who’s asking. I would drive past McDonald’s to go to Burger King if Mickey D wanted papers and BK didn’t.

I’d show chic-fil-a my papers and get another shot at the window if they asked.

I've notice you haven't mentioned any of Biden's policies cause you can't. I don't know since your side was woke first would you like me to post some BLM and Antifa videos to see where it's heading?

I said I would, but that answer was pretty loaded with other BS. If I wanted to go to something and they were asking for proof of vaccination to go, I would not hesitate to show mine. I’ll also get my free doughnut on the way.

Also...Q told me it was okay to take the tin foil hat off now 😉

Say I go to an event that it is mandated you show your vaccine card. Then one of the events promoters or a local journalist comes up to me, asks me a few questions about the event and takes a picture of me. Then there is a photo on their website or in the local paper that identifies me. Well then every reader would clearly know that I was in attendance at an event that required vaccination so they would know I was vaccinated. Personally I wouldn't care but I'm just curious if this would violate HIPAA

What's next, the government restricting a woman's ability to have an abortion? Oh wait, that already happens.

In America, our privacy has been such a privilege. Other countries don't think twice about this kind of stuff such as having to have your yellow fever vaccine card when you travel into certain countries or go ahead on planning to get another vaccine given to you at the airport. So when I first read this idea it doesn't seem like that big of a deal. Living in N. Africa, I have to have negative PCR tests to travel and always keep that yellow card on me for any plane flight; just cause I never know when someone will care. Now, you've got to be careful for how far you're willing to take a restriction as this is a personal choice for people, the vaccine at least. Discrimination can always creep in so that's the long-term risk but refusing someone service from your personal business because they aren't vaccinating to a global threatening pandemic virus is absolutely reasonable. Just as it's reasonable for someone to not want you to know their health information...and thus stay out of your business.

Side note: I'm ready for all y'all stateside to either get it or refuse it so that the stock piles will be more readily available for countries over here that have limited oxygen and almost no ventilators. WHO is starting is first phase of the AstraZeneca vaccine here for healthcare workers but it's still almost nothing at this point as the numbers continue to climb in terms of deaths compared to usually death toll.

No, because you voluntarily relinquished that info. You knew you would have to if you wanted to be there.

If you go to an event for cancer survivors and the same thing happens to you, it's not a HIPAA violation because you chose to disclose that by being there.

Dude, @ChicagoTiger85 is very conservative. And he hasn't made any arguments against the free market. If a business wants to use this, great. If they don't, great. It's their choice, and your choice to patronize them. This really isn't complicated.

Dude, it has nothing to do with free market. It's the Government having control of what you can do or where you can go if not for the vaccine. This really isn't complicated.
