OT: Whiskey question

I've always bought my Jack Daniel's by the handle. Couple of weeks ago on my 21st I went to the liquor store and bout a 750 instead. I've been drinking Jack for years, never had a smoother bottle. Anybody know why a 750 of the same whiskey would be smoother than the handle?
