Political jersey messages.....

If our athletic dept. allows our players to begin displaying political messages on jerseys at sporting events I'm done. I'm a 1981 graduate, IPTAY level donor (member since graduation) season ticket holder in three sports. The games are a diversion from the mess of the world....a few hours of respite from bickering, arguing and fighting. I'm happy to watch a left wing socialist play for my alma mater and root like crazy for him but not if he insists on taking my lifetime passion and turning it into his political platform.
You won’t be the only one either.

It’s nice that you can escape from the real world while others have to worry about potentially getting killed because of the color of their skin

Just like the protest that our players led - let them be human beings with opinions. And love them for it
You do realize that 99.999999% of black people that get killed are NOT killed because of the color of their skin right? If anyone legitimately worries about being killed when they leave their house strictly because of their skin color, they are either:
a. Choosing to be a victim because it’s en vogue to do so and makes them feel empowered (I assume)
b. Suffering from a mental illness and I would sincerely encourage them to seek professional help

Where? I don’t see it?

**** any cop that does what they did to George Floyd.

you got the wrong one.

The irony is that you want white people to stop being vilified because they can be "individuals with different thoughts or cultural opinions"

And at the same time, many of you are getting upset and refusing to watch Clemson football because the players want to be "individuals with different thoughts or cultural opinions" and not just football players.

See the irony?

I understand being frustrated at some ESPN commentary, but I really don't get being upset at players wearing patches and using their platform for something other than sports. Why does that bother some of you so much? Even if you disagree with their stance?

Here I am again itt.

Ive never stated I wouldn’t watch the games.

I don’t believe in racism. I hate it. I don’t think I’m better than anyone, regardless of color.

I try to see the positives we’ve made in this country regarding equality the last two decades. We elected a minority president, not once, but two terms. That’s not progress?

We’ve had multiple women nominated sec of state, etc.we could have a female v-president come nov. progress?

One pos cop in MN shouldn’t be used as a benchmark for where we are in this country.

I think a lot of people have used this man’s death to push THEIR agenda. And that’s sickening to me.

politics and social commentary have been in sports for decades if not centuries. The only reason people want to separate them now like it’s church and state is because the politics and views make them uncomfortable. Not because It’s an escape for them.
Bingo...
This is the heart of the matter. ‘Sports has always been an escape from reality’ is the new catch phrase rooted in intellectual dishonesty.

the establishment of Negro League baseball franchises. To Branch Rickey choosing Jackie Robinson to break the color barrier in baseball. Every major league player has worn #42 on the same day in games for a number of years now. It doesn’t get more ‘social/political’ than that. It’s a statement, one of respect and honor, but it’s outside the game itself.

the US boycott of the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, the USSR boycott of the ‘84 olympics in LA. The ‘72 Munich Olympics with the Muslim terrorist killings of Jewish people. The ‘68 Olympics with the raised black panther fists, during, gasp...the national anthem. It doesn’t get more political than that. The boycotts were literally over political positions.

Muhammed Ali was as big of a social/political activist there ever was in sports. He’s the most beloved, popular boxer in history.

curt flood, a black man, revolutionized sports by bucking the system and was the father of free agency. Do people not think these were actual stories? That intertwined their beloved sports.

it’s just not true that people want to ‘escape real life’ when watching sports because sports has always been about real life. Succeeding when the cards have been stacked against them. Tom Ronaldi has a job to try and make people cry on game day every single Saturday by having a long piece on some player or coach about, real life, away from the court/field/sidelines. Real life is everywhere in sports. It’s actually why we like sports. The athletes are humanized.

if it’s just sports that gives us an outlet, why is watching them without fans not enough? Why do we complain how boring it is without them? It’s not the politics and social aspects that is disrupting the enjoyment. It’s the difference in opinion that’s disrupting it. And if that bothers me or someone else, that’s 100 percent a me or someone else problem. Without discussion. It’s not a them problem.

sports without reality woven into our lives, about their lives, is impersonal. We’re a personal species. Sports in a vacuum is barren. People don’t even realize that part of sports is we watch these guys compete and do things we aren’t capable of. And we love it and the reality of their lives bring us closer to them. We can love sports because of the reality. It makes us more like them in that regard. We can love or hate players because we’re personal beings who need connection.

I’ll leave this for the ‘sports is an escape from real life’ guy. If kneeling during the national anthem or having social justice patches on jerseys is enough of an ‘away from the game’ story to trigger a big enough personal and emotional response to not only boycott a sport you claim to enjoy and love, but even the school whose very players you profess to love and care for; is it not reasonable to think that all of the other off field stuff we learn about, read about, hear about, that is the epitome of real life, also enough to have triggered a personal and emotional response that draws you closer to the sport and the players as well? Meaning, that regardless of whether you agree or disagree with the subject matter, it’s disingenuous at the core, that sports is just an outlet from reality. The reality of life and sport are the same. They are both unscripted. There’s a symbiotic relationship between sports and real life. They are in sync with each other.

It’s unequivocally not just a relief. They never have been. It doesn’t mean that we can’t sit back, look forward to and enjoy a 2 yard gain more than having to cut the grass, change a diaper or go to work. That’s universal. But that’s not really the real life these kinds of proclamations are talking about, are they?

If you want relief from reality, go watch a movie, a scripted story with people pretending to be someone different than in real life. You’re doing it wrong if you’re tuning into sports for the same reason.

We get you're a black man and have been beaten up by cops. Please forgive every white person on Earth. Because we aren’t capable of being individuals with different thoughts or cultural opinions.

Had a comment from this very board from a black man today referencing white people on a beach as a bunch of necks. You think that’s culturally ok to say? Be real.
Are you comparing one black man calling some white folks necks to major systemic racism and police brutality and killings?

I don't disagree with any of your statements except maybe the benchmark statement, and my apologies for thinking you said you wouldn't watch the games. I confused your post with another.

There is definitely progress being made. I try not to let people's agendas get in the way of dealing with actual problems. I choose to believe the players intentions are pure.

not during the game

its clemson versus an opponent

thats it

that what we pay for

George Floyd
Elijah McLain
Breonna Taylor

are you serious?

im so confused

i didnt think george floyd got killed because of his skin color

thats ridiculous

he was killed for

1- using counterfeit money to steal cigarettes while under the influence of narcotics

2-he did not flee the scene. dumbass to stick around.

3- cops showed up and tried to place him under arrest. he resisted and was an ass

4-This is the point that did not happen. Police officers noticed the criminal had black skin and at that point decided to kill him.

thats just stupid.

4- what really happened was the arresting officer was pissed at the amount of energy it took to contain the suspect, had a presonal issue with, and used a knee to the neck technique for way too long a time. which i havent heard why after restrained he didnt place subject in car.

being under the influence of narcotics assisted in the excessive force of the death of the criminal.

anyway

thats the only one i studied. the other i dont give a rats ass about. and not wasting my time on.

Rescinded Social Security Rule
In late February 2017, Trump signed into law a joint resolution that eliminated an Obama-era rule requiring the Social Security Administration to report to the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System certain disability beneficiaries deemed unable to manage their finances due to a mental health condition.

The SSA rule, which was issued in December 2016, was created to comply with the reporting requirements mandated by the NICS Improvement Amendment Act of 2007, which was signed into law in January 2008 by President George W. Bush. The law required federal agencies to report individuals prohibited from acquiring guns to the NICS, and federal law prohibits someone “who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution” from buying or possessing a gun.

The SSA rule said that in order to be reported to the background check system, individuals had to meet five criteria, including having a severe mental disability and having a representative assigned to handle their benefit payments. The Obama administration estimated that the reporting requirement would cover “approximately 75,000 people each year who have a documented mental health issue, receive disability benefits, and are unable to manage those benefits because of their mental impairment, or who have been found by a state or federal court to be legally incompetent.”

Trump opposed the rule because it “could endanger the Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens,” the White House said. The National Rifle Association, the American Civil Liberties Union and many disability rights groups also argued that it risked violating the rights of some beneficiaries by unduly preventing them from being able to buy firearms.

The legislation blocking the rule from being implemented passed 235-180 in the House, with only six Democratic votes, and 57-43 in the Senate, where four Democrats supported it.

Right, because you would never say Extreme Right-Winger. Gimme a break, Ice.

Those two labels are not equivalent.

Stating that black lives matter doesn't make a person a "left wing socialist". Mitt Romney? Ammon Bundy? Those guys are socialists? Mike Bloomberg? A socialist?

Tell that to the faces of your favorite Clemson players. They’ll hate your ass. Rightfully so

they are human beings. Let them be human beings, not just pawns for your entertainment

they are working on careers in a professional sport

people pay to watch professional athletes perform

not listen or give a shyt about their political views

you should just go away man.

no

i think it is ridiculous to allow athletes to express their political views while on the job.

their job is to focus on winning a national championship

anything else is taking away from the goal

its bullshyt to even think about allowing players to be politically active at work

total bullshyt and i will always stand against it.

they are MORE THAN WELCOME TO EXPRESS THEIR POLITICAL VIEWS WHEN NOT AT WORK JUST LIKE ANY OTHER JOB REQUIREMENT
