A lot of schools support too many sports programs, so they are not able to invest as much in football. The combination of a terrible TV contract along with supporting to many sports is a bad recipe. UVA, UNC and Duke pride themselves in winning so many championships in the other non revenue producing sports, so none of them are ever very good at football. If all three dropped down to 20 sport range, they could dedicate all that money to their football programs. ND is one of the few teams that seems to be able to support a lot of sports teams and maintain football, however their facilities lag behind. I fully expect a lot of ACC programs to really start cutting sports to keep up with the Big 10 and SEC schools. They just aren't going to be able to keep up financially. It will be interesting to see how the programs try to create more revenue.
UNC - 27 sports they support (only 2 make money football and basketball)
Duke - 27 sports
UVA - 25 sports
BC - 25 sports
ND - 25 sports
Louisville - 23 sports
VT - 22 sports
Highest in SEC is UGA with 21 sports. Vandy only supports 14 sports programs. Clemson has 19 sports which seems to be right around average for the SEC. Lowest in the ACC is GT with 17.
