Your parents wouldn’t be proud of behavior today. Think about someone you cared for died and at the funeral people talked shit.

Just talking about his performance as a President. RIP. He was a great man outside for that job.

In the hindsight of history, Carter was actually better than he was perceived to be at the time of his presidency. He had some unfortunate circumstances that weren't of his doing color his presidency. His biggest flaws were not being political enough and a poor understanding of the way politics were evolving. He was the first president I got to vote for, and I only voted for him because I thought since he was a nuclear navy guy, he'd be good for nuclear power. And I had just started my first job of splitting atoms for a living at a nuclear plant. Carter was only Democrat I ever voted for until Trump came along and turned me into a liberal. I mostly worked in the libertarian party, and I even worked on Bush senior's campaign locally in SC, back in those days.

He was a blue dog. But you can't deny inexplicable decisions like the Panama deal, Lack of forcefulness in the Iranian hostage issue, other things.

I disagree with you on that, I understand your view though, it was controversial at the time. I've just come to agree with the perspective that it was the right move at the time.

OIL embargo, inflation.
American's moral was at a low time low.
Reagan revitalized that.

I'd counter that coming out of Nixon and Ford years contributed greatly to that. Look, I thought Reagan did a great job at the time. But in hindsight, I don't think that as much as I did at the time, just as I now don't think Carter was that bad.

The great thing about this conversation is that you and I can disagree on policy decisions and debate the facts honestly and with facts from both sides. I can't say that you're wrong in your opinion and I believe mine hold up under scrutiny, also. I say that to just make the point that I wish we could do the same today. Without the propaganda, and non contextual bullshit, and flat out lies we're subjected to these days. But that's where we are in history right now.
