Are they not allowed to take a lead off of first base in an attempt to steal second? I’m watching Bama-VT and they just had to cut to replay to see if the runner on first left the base too early. She clearly left before the pitch reached the catcher and they called her safe. VT challenged the call and lost the challenge. At what point is the runner allowed to take off? I was assuming it was at the point when the ball hits the catcher’s mitt…but apparently I was wrong…
