Restaurant Wait Timed

Sitting at a resort town restaurant

was told it was an hour wait

lack of wait staff and cooks

Every time I hear that I have to wait this it turns me off to restaurants

At this point I prefer to cook my own food and eat it

My grown children and family along with many people are saying the same thing about quality of restaurant service

I know we are coming out of the pandemic but the poor service is concerning
People have been spoiled by free money from the government and don't want to work. Those that have gone back to work are sick of being short staffed and busting their asses to do the right thing while many of their former coworkers are sitting on theirs and earning more money in a lot of cases. Service was bound to suffer.

We can thank politicians for instilling a "feed off the government tit" mentality. They started ruining America in the 60s by incentivizing sitting on your ass and single mothers popping out paycheck babies. This is the great society that those "Great Society" programs of the 60s created.

That's why the words "I'm from the government and I'm here to help" is something a lot of us do not want to ever hear. For all their Harvard and Yale educations, they are some of the stupidest SOBs alive.

I am actually enjoying the chaos because from this chaos will come order

The swing to conservative values is going to be brutal and not without a lot of pain to liberals and conservatives

but in the end a new Reagan is going to emerge from the fog of this war pitting evil versus good and I leave it to the reader to figure it out
I tend to think you are right but it will get a hell of a lot worse before it gets better.

The only reason Trump lost reelection is because of his big fat mouth. You can be a rebel against the establishment and have great policies but when you alienate as many people as he did, it will only take a clown like Biden to beat you.

Fortunately there's a pretty good LEADER down in Florida who appears to be an etiquette school graduate version of Trump. He's young and my wife says he's not bad to look at (for whatever that's worth). I just hope he has Presidential aspirations.

My wife and I own a small personalization and gift store. In the past three months I haven't been able to find just about any comfort colors shirts in standard sizes and Richardson style Trucker caps are non existent also. Gildan, which owns comfort colors, "hopes" that they will begin to see supplies start hitting the pipeline mid 4th quarter.

I have a great import source for this if you need some assistance email me.

I may be able to help ya out

In Augusta, you have to have a reservation to get in most restaurants.

I just bought 5 tons of fertilizer and put it in storage for next year. The fertilizer I use went from 1000.00 to 1400.00 per ton July 1. They expect at least 2 more increases before next April.

One company here completely out of fertilizer and dont know when they will be getting more.

My adopted Latino son is having to pay 15 to 18 dollars an hr to get anyone decent to work in his lawn care service.

Joke if you want, but if you want someone to prepare your food in a restaurant or to build your house…you better damn well hope they keep pouring through the border.
Who said I was joking? But anybody that thinks it's a good thing that our borders are wide open is a joke

You nailed it. I spent 20 years in the restaurant business, eventually becoming a managing partner for a casual dining franchisee. I left 10 years ago because I was starting to struggle greatly with finding decent management talent.

For the past 10 years I’ve been working for a restaurant technology company. We have been as busy the past 6 months as at any point in the last 10 years. What do we sell?

Software that uses data to write schedules and generate orders programmatically, allowing owners to have less talented, less experienced, lower paid managers, Self-order kiosks that are replacing cashiers, and drive thru systems with AI driven voice recognition software.

$15 an hour may happen in the restaurant industry, but staff will be replaced by technology to the tune of 30-50% staff reductions in quick service and fast casual segments.
thats interesting...on average how much is a restaurant paying for your product to allow them to pay management less?

Damn there are some bitter people out there. I’ve eaten out a decent amount recently and haven’t noticed many problems beyond the typical restaurant problems.

My daughter is 16 and is a hostess at a local restaurant/bar. It’s her first job and she seems to really like it. She’s had a couple of issues of angry customers with unreasonable expectations but has learned it’s just part of the job.

i just don’t see this “the world is ending because people are lazy and don’t give a damn” mentality. And the problems some of you have mentioned predate Biden and Trump so keep that in mind when you blame one party or the other.

We’re about mid range in the industry and it’s in the $200 a month range. Most Fast Food places have reduced to one salaried manager and a handful of “shift leaders” that basically are there to do voids.

I will agree with the premise that how you treat the most vulnerable people that you come in contact with is a clear measure of your character

last night on a $50 dinner bill I left a $25 tip and thanked the server for showing up

I hugged the hostess and offered her a tip for getting my family in the restaurant in a short time instead of the original two hour wait

I was nice and understanding the whole time never insulting the people who are working under difficult circumstances

I personally always thank the people who are the janitors and people who do services like cleaning bathrooms as they are truly good people deserving respect

just because you flash cash or drop names means nothing to me

it’s the heart and soul of the person

learn to see that and you will be a better person
That’s what I promised my mom I would do as she was on her death bed

in life as we age get better not bitter
The hardest lines I carried during my peak years have been dulled by age. It allows me to be human and slow down and say thank you. To see the softness and goodness of our world.

Yeah....I was a fvcking jerk. I won't die one.

You my friend have nailed it
Ron DeSantas. If I spelled it right

Highly probable as the next POTUS
of the US

Trump was a marvelously gifted visionary in business but stunk it up when it came to being easy to get along with plus he took on the poisonous Washington snakes and for that he didn’t get the support he needed

Ron will not make that mistake

awesome words to live by!

I’d like to think we all have dishwashers. Still annoying dealing with dishes.

Yeah, but it’s more annoying to drive, park, wait, drive back (for me atleast)

I didn’t always think so, but the pandemic made me realize how awesome it is eating at home

I do still like to go out to the best restaurants for date night but I’m dropping some cash

I’m in Hawaii and it is awful here. Many restaurants are still 25% bc of no wait staff. We literally just drove around for an hour looking for a restaurant to seat us in Pearl City.

Ate in Cola. Last weekend at Wild Wing downtown (kid had tournament there) and not packed, waited a hour for food and they DID NOT HAVE SILVERWARE!! Not even plastic. Bazaar

i just wanna know how he got past the two hour wait time? if it involved cash, then he needs to take out the line about dropping cash and names

what transpired was I thanked the hostess for being there and allowing her and the waitresses to serve us

and if any opportunity came up to get our party of 9 a table I would appreciate it very much

they had tables of 4 and I offered to split it into three tables with me sitting alone as I wanted to get my family of children and grands in as it was getting late

Again thanking her and being polite and going outside to sit down she then called me in about 15 minutes and said that because I was so understanding, polite and appreciated their effort that she and the staff made an opportunity for us for a table of 9

never underestimate the power of catching flies with honey instead of vinegar

On leaving I left a nice extra large tip for the waitress and hostess even though they said it was not necessary

Good works deserve a reward as most people would have taken the table and not appreciated it

I still have a janitor from a company I worked at 25 years ago come up to me and talk with me

while working at a company about 10 years ago I would always buy a lunch once a month for the cleaning crew and bring them candy bars on occasion

needless to say my area was the most spotless in the building

be nice to people and generally they will return the respect

The six major bankruptcies Trump has filed tell a whole different story
The six blind men describe the elephant by using their other senses at six different locations on the animal

To have power you must have a positive and negative so as it in life

That’s a broad stroke you painted there but it’s not the anecdotal evidence I’m experiencing. I’m hiring 4 new people for my team. I’ve interviewed a dozen people all of whom have left the service industry, taken classes to become more technically proficient and looking to start new careers.

When the pandemic hit, I was worried for my sister who took over my parents daycare business. 2 schools and about 60 employees. Parents ran it for 35 years and she takes over and within 6 months she’s dealing with Covid. I started to think about what she could pivot too if it went under. It had a big kitchen and I told her she could convert to making casseroles for takeout. Just have a menu of two to three per day and make them the same every day of every week. Then convert the rooms in the school eventually to office space since people were most likely going to work remote moving forward. It was just an idea but you get a couple of southern women whipping up chicken casserole and the like and all you have to do is whip into a parking lot go home and heat it up for say $20 per dish sounded like a winner. I know I would take advantage. I hear what people ITT are saying about dining in but when you have two parents working maybe even late or if you are a single parent, taking the load off just a little bit two to three nights per week for basically the same amount it takes you to cook at home could be a lifesaver.

It really is fun to do all that because when you see their reaction it’s usually genuine surprise and appreciation. People don’t realize that you could make someone’s day even without the extra tip. Even before Covid I always made a point when I had great service (because it has taken a nose dive in the last decade or so) to make sure I ask for the manager as I leave and tell them that one of their employees is spectacular at their job. It’s funny because when you ask the hostess for their manager they immediately think there was something wrong. And when the manager approaches you can see the dread on their face so when you tell them the good news they are so appreciative and no doubt they pull the employee aside to praise them. Sometimes that’s worth more than money. The fun part is you’re not there to see it so they know you’re not doing it for yourself and that you truly appreciate them. I love doing that.
