There is video circulating online of a phd student at Tufts University being detained by masked ICE officers. She is here legally on a student visa and hasn’t broken any laws. She wrote an opinion peace in her university paper that was pro Palestine.

Are we ok with people being detained and moved to other states without breaking any laws? Are we ok with these agents being masked and in civilian clothes picking off legal immigrants in the street?

I’m here for the free speech crowd.

Well … I would want to read her “opinion piece”. If it’s like other “opinion pieces” from Ivy League students … it was probably ripe with antisemitism, anti-American BS.

She is a “guest” in this country. Of course I’m probably the wrong person to get an opinion on this …. I personally believe that no foreign students should be granted admission to American Universities and issued student visas while American kids who meet requirements are denied admission.

Yeah your opinion has some flaws for sure. You apply that same logic to jobs as well?

But beside that, you think only US citizens should have free speech?

So people should not have free speech if they have a green card or visa. And if they say anything it should be in line with the president/ruling party. That is your opinion.
I thonk you should be respectful of your host. If you want to say racist things all the while disparaging your host’s home, maybe you should leave or better yet … never have come in the first place.

Yeah that’s not free speech. And there hasn’t been any reporting that she said anything racist about anyone to this point.

So again, you think follow the ruling party or be deported. Don’t dare be critical of anything either.

So now we’re pro affirmative action? Wild.

But wait your side was quiet and apparently ok with putting elderly women in prison for praying outside an abortion clinic. I have no sympathy for foreigners coming over causing trouble or trying to stir up interest in foreign wars. The hypocrisy is thick here.

Yes, individuals with student visas in the U.S. are protected by the First Amendment and have the same right to free speech as U.S. citizens. This includes freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and freedom of religion.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • First Amendment Protections:
The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution protects freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly, and the right to petition the government. These protections apply to everyone within U.S. borders, regardless of immigration status.

  • International Students and Scholars:
International students and scholars are not exempt from these protections. They have the same rights to express themselves, participate in peaceful assembly, and practice their religion as U.S. citizens. https://www.freedomforum.org/non-citizens-protected-first-amendment/

So you are against free speech and the first amendment.

I have no clue what you are talking about as your example btw.

You would be wrong according to hundreds of years of supreme court rulings. There are some rights explicitly for citizens, like the right to vote for example, but otherwise you would need to change the constitution.
Well I'm disappointed then. You think it will stop deportations?

Yep if you are not a citizen then your rights are severely limited

magas are so weird, they don't even understand the moral high ground authority that the USA has used to fight communism and tyranny all over the world.
The understand it and don’t like it. They’d like to use the same methods here— and are doing so now.

Examples like this show that the people who claim to be ok with legal immigrants, and just don’t want illegal immigrants in our country, are lying.

You don’t actually want immigrants period and especially not ones who don’t fall in line with your political views/leaders.

First post, I said that I would like to read what she wrote. Comments in the article, you posted, said her opinion piece contained pro-terrorist, pro Hamas, anti-American calls to action. I can only assume that it also included anti-Israel, antisemitic, racist remarks as well.

Again I would think that both “ruling parties” would be against “guests” coming into our country and shitting all over it. She is here as a guest and has the right to say whatever she wants … she doesn’t have the right to stay just because she wants to, and we have the right to ask her to leave, because she isn’t a citizen. If a white-nationalist here on a student visa wrote a disgusting opinion piece my opinion would be the same.

You asked for opinions, I gave you mine. You not liking it, is a “you” problem.

It doesn't matter what she wrote. Just because you don't like the content of her speech doesn't mean she can be grabbed by plain cloths agents, arrested, sent to a different state (despite a court order not to do that), and basically disappeared by the Gestapo.

The "free speech" crowd here is jst Trumpers who don't have any morals or political beliefs beyond Trump being right and wanting to own the Libs. Every accusation ("the libs are going after us for our speech") is a confession ("we will do the same")

Nothing in the article I shared said she wrote anything that was pro terrorist, pro Hamas, or anti American.

That’s not an opinion at all.

What is anti American is not allowing free speech to all.

I am sure many conservatives, like @fatpiggy , are tired of the left equating "Europe should be better about free speech" to being "pro-Russia". But similarly, it drives me nuts that being "anti-Palestinian genocide" is being equated to being "pro-Hamas".
Its very dishonest argument. The whole situation in Israel and the west bank is abhorrent and the western media is complicit with genocide.

yes of course. It's also possible to argue that Israel always wanted the ruling party of Palenstine to be labeled a terrorist group. So that they could force them out.
Sure, there are lots of nuanced arguments people could make. But what Hamas did to start this wave of war/fighting was abhorrent and unsupportable. I'm just saying you can believe that AND that Israel's response has also not been great, etc.

Get outta here with your nuanced take on a massively complex subject.
