SC DHEC says 89% of Coronavirus cases have recovered

CDC
New data on COVID-19 is available daily," the document said. "Information about its biological and epidemiological characteristics remain limited, and uncertainty remains around nearly all parameter values."

The document includes five scenarios. The first four are varying estimates of the disease's severity, from low to high, while the fifth represents the "current best estimate."

The range of estimates put the fatality rate for those showing symptoms between 0.2%-1%, with a "best estimate" of 0.4%.

It also places the number of asymptomatic cases between 20%-50%, with a "best estimate" of 35%.

By combining the two estimates, the estimated overall fatality rate of those infected with the virus – with and without symptoms – would be 0.26%.

According to NPR, the CDC has revised the estimate downward from its estimate in mid-April. Internal versions of the CDC scenario documents acquired by the Center for Public Integrity show that on April 14, the CDC had estimated a 0.33% fatality rate. That was up from a March 31 estimate of 0.16%.

I said 0.4-0.6% for all comers....so pretty close to what u posted above ..

Critical thinking and nuanced conversations isn’t your forte. So I understand why you exude great frustration at my posts
^^^This post^^^ should replace “E Pluribus Unum” as our national motto. It’s in the nuance that all COVID related problems, including our college football season, will be resolved.

"When warm weather comes the virus will be gone." - @nmerritt11 3.12.20

This post didn't age so well, did it?

The cases are sky rocketing but the per case fatality rate is way down! If we basically forced everyone to test for every virus known to man or every illness that could kill them the number of “cases” would go up because there would be people walking around who had no clue they had it.

Yes it hasn’t gone away but nice of you to pick out one post I’ve made and not show where I’ve been consistent that it wouldn’t be as deadly and the death rates would come way down. Not pick all you want but here’s some facts

Compare Case Fatality rates to the rest of the world
-40 other countries have higher CFRs than us.
- The UK is almost 4 times higher in fact.
- 8 other countries have had higher death per capita as well.

We are doing a much better job with higher case numbers, keeping people alive or not even being hospitalized or heck, even seeing a doctor at all... And that data is straight from Johns Hopkins website.

The last 6 positive people I know personally not one even saw a doctor. They did the drive thru CVS test and then talked to DHEC before and after quarantine for directions. Of those 6 only one was symptomatic and he just quarantined, was tired and slept all day, and lost sense of taste. The others were forced to test because of exposure. I’ve been exposed now and never shown one symptom so I never tested.

I will be test before I leave for Jamaica because when I land I will be forced to test when I arrive in airport.

If you don’t think the media talk shifted from death rate to cases for a reason I’m sorry. And if you don’t think that anyone who dies with a positive diagnosis, regardless of how, it’s a Covid death is sketchy I’m sorry...don’t know what to tell you.

It’s amazing how so many of you refuse to have an objective conversation on this topic.
Once you sadly conclude that party lined individuals cannot handle information that doesn’t align with their party goals, all objectivity is removed.

People have been brainwashed that speaking against a party line is speaking against the party. It’s quite the phenomenon and extremely pathetic.

Do you also think the numbers of total deaths are "skewed"? As a Doctor, surely you agree some of the deaths were not covid related? Dying with something and from something are different Numbers can be manipulated both ways. Either way, the mortality rate is coming down. That's great news.
I don't want to get into this argument, but this has brought something to my mind that I have always thought in the back of my mind. Say you had one beer on the way home, and someone runs a redlight and hits you. This is likely to be called an alcohol related accident.

For the ones that still don't believe.

it’s a political shit show! And the same people who want to blame Trump are the same ones who get pissed off and refuses to work with Federal government when ICE comes or another federal agency comes in.

Apparently they wanted him to call for martial law, enable national guard to shut down for Corona but enable them to help control riots and orange man bad. Everything is an agenda.

First when NY handled this thing like dumb asses from the beginning...were Force sending Covid patients to skilled facilities (which on a Feb 13th call the CDC states they could not force them to take patients) when there was an emergency hospital put in place that was not utilized and death rate sky rocketed it was still Trumps fault because of PPE shortage that was impossible to keep from happening and there was no way the HHS could have prepared for this under any President whether named Obama, Trump, Reagan, or Bozo.

Everyone got to be experts in PPE and started price gouging, hoarding, and we realized China had us by the balls which Trump told us the entire time. The trade deal has allowed China to butt rape us and all the money we saved over the years has vanished. The democrat lead house put a stimulus in place that allows people to make more staying at home and going to work and while they once said it wasn’t Trumps stimulus they now say it was a bad plan and blame Trump.

NY magically finds ventilators and it was proven they didn’t need near the number they critiqued Trump and the HHS for not having! California magically finds a warehouse full of 3M N95 masks in storage. “Oh shit lookin there we do have masks after all!”

Now distributors and importers are stuck with inventory that they have more money in than they can sell them for because they had to order bulk and pay China cash up front and the inventory’s outside of gloves is correcting itself and now the hospitals and medical facilities don’t wanna pay the higher cost for things like KN-95, earloop masks, gloves etc. And gloves situation is only gonna get worse and will not correct itself until at least his time next year. Nitrile is damn near impossible to find stateside and if you do it’s triple what it should be. And vinyl is right behind that so gloves will be an absolute shit show moving forward. And If you find containers and order them from China, Malaysia or Thailand you better have the cash to wire before it floats or flies. And they won’t even guarantee your pricing until it is ready to float or fly and if they raise price and you don’t have the money....next man up! And you’re out of the que moving forward

Isolation gowns are another rare species especially disposable with a medical rating. You can find them with testing data showing they meet level 2 requirements but they have not gone through the process to get them certified as medical

But let’s blame Trump and every republican if we have a D beside our name instead of having the media report the actual factual data the CDC is sending in reports showing where Covid is being controlled, the deaths are dropping, the seriousness of cases are in general mild, and doctors are starting to figure out how to treat it to an extent

My family doctor told my wife yesterday it was B/S and he was tired of it when she mentioned us getting tested before leaving for Jamaica. And when we get to Jamaica we will quarantine for 48 hours at resort while waiting for results but at least we can enjoy the resort while we do it and only infect people partying with us or they can infect us.

I would actually be shocked if I haven’t been positive at some point in time. I formed a concrete pad with a guy who had it and started showing symptoms the two days we were in close quarters all day everyday. His son and wife got it but no symptoms.

It’s all a numbers game. Money, cases, etc. Death rate that was important when NY was shitting the bed and New Orleans mayor was blaming Trump for not cancelling Mardi Gras and California was whining and crying but now that it is being controlled it’s all about cases

Hell, I was told that medical executives have a portal that they can log into with a doctors order to see all their employees testing data and results! I mean...now we are allowing people to access Personal medical records

And for fun I had someone see if they could pull me up and they could! I’m not employed by them. It’s a shit show...mind control

This was shared by a State legislator friend from Columbia.

I also just read that despite an increase in cases in my county (population 239,000) in TN there are 14 hospitalizations. There were 12 in April.

Figured football fans needed some positive news.

Not sure why the news that 11% have not recovered would be positive news.

A few posters on here can't handle any optimism with the Covid numbers. They are quick to dismiss even the hint of positive news. It's quite interesting.

That's because we have seen what morons do with even a "hint" of positive news, no matter how erroneous it is. They use that "hint" of news to bolster their already flawed positions. They use that "hint" of news to justify running around in public places without masks, going to bars and nightclubs and then visiting their older relatives, and engaging in absurd conspiracy theories online about how this whole pandemic was engineered by the NWO to bring down Trump.

Per article it's at least 14 days after onset of symptoms before even non-hospitalized COVID+ folks are deemed recovered. 32+ days if they were hospitalized. Given our cases surged in the past 5-6 weeks that's a decent clearance rate.

11% means currently positive or dead.

"According to DHEC, of those patients, 733 have passed away. Of the remaining 23,547, 89%, or 20,957 people, have recovered from the virus and 11% are estimated to remain ill." (They take deaths out of the total number so that 11% is just folks who are not recovered.

Remain ill for how long is my question.

You are so naive. Another example of how the media manipulates people. Russian hoax, caravan of Mexicans, and you still don't think it's possible for China or the Democratic party could possibly have an agenda against the president?

Black Lives Matter protests haven't led to COVID-19 spikes. It may be due to people staying home.

Why are news organizations not making a bigger deal out of California’s big jump in cases? To me it’s the bigger story over Florida and Texas. This is a state that imposed one of the tightest lockdowns early and kept it longer, yet their numbers have seen similar increases to other states that were more lax with the lockdown.

Caravan of mexicans? You are saying that the dems created that nonsense? That was Trump and the republicans. You probably noticed the day after the midterm elections we never heard about that horde of terrorists immigrants again, from Trump or anyone else. The scare tactic served its purpose with half witted yokels like you.

You are clearly the naive one, and not very intelligent either. Tell me again how the dems colluded with China to create and release a world wide pandemic simply to remove Trump from office?

a few questions....
1. Isn’t this a HIPAA violation? Being in the software space working on security projects, I’m pretty sure it is. If it’s not a HIPAA violation, why isn’t it?
2. Why are you sharing this on a message board?

Wife works for Prisma Health. 89% is somewhat of a guess. They only count the cases that they have confirmed recovered. Many people test positive, never go to the hospital, and never follow back up after they recover. The hospital or lab will try to contact that person to come in and take another test to confirm they are negative. Many never answer the calls or don't want to come in again. The hospital has to make some assumptions. Not saying they are completely off base on their numbers but just something to keep in mind.

NY shat the bed? NYC reporting record low new infections while SC shows record high number of infections.

You are the king of throwing out anecdotal evidence that is meaningless (if true at all). You probably made up those stories anyway, we all know your credibility is no bueno.

I do actually think knowing that 89% of the total case count has already recovered is positive.

The media tends to focus on the total case count which is the biggest number so much that we forget that most people who have had this are better now.

The actual deaths when compared to total cases and total infections is a very very small number.

When we break it down further and focus only on deaths in people under 25 in good health the number is microscopic versus total cases.

This is why I believe it’s okay for college and high school kids to play football. If you’re Vulnerable or susceptible then you should stay home and avoid contact with young players until their season is over.

Saying 89% has recovered does to me not say 11% died

A part of that 11% may still be considered ill but not dead

Another thing that makes no sense to me and has to be incredibly inaccurate are the daily infection counts.

Example: Person A gets tested on the 1st. Their results are not known until the 8th. The results are counted for the 8th as they are not going back and changing the numbers for the 1st. They stay stagnant once reported. That person tested positive on the 1st but their cases will be counted on the 8th.

So, some labs turnaround tests in 1 day. Other labs take up to 2 weeks. The lab numbers are added together on the day the lab results were found out, not the day the test was taken. That means that many of these big spikes in daily cases are NOT from today or even yesterday's cases. They could be the results from testing up to 2 weeks before and depends on which labs turn in their numbers that day. That's why you see such wide swings from day to day.

Or they are happy the death rate is falling? Seems like that would be a bipartisan thing, unfortunately its not. Seriously though, Kanye running should do well for you guys in November. Best of luck

the data is a bit skewed and makes a lot of assumptions both ways.

Those where hospitalization status was unknown were deemed as “recovered” based upon having no reported adverse outcome reported as of > 32 days since their illness onset.

so basically if you tested positive and were lost to follow up (say death at home, for example) you were still counted as recovered
I have seen and heard from many sources that hospitals allot a certain number of beds for Covid patients. So let’s say 100 of 500 beds. Then let’s say you have 20 Covid patients in the allotted 100 beds. Meaning the percentage hospitalized would 20% instead of 4%. This would obviously paint a different picture either way. What say you?

Oh so this is why when anyone tries to say a certain treatment works or the numbers are inflated people jump on to attack like flies to stink?

lol what?
I get daily detailed hospital emails with percentage of hospitalized patients with covid, and the raw numbers. It matches up.

also, what idiot working at a hospital would read that 20 beds are taken up with covid patients and believe these patients comprise 20% of the HOSPITAL? Sorry, that’s not happening.

Finally, hospitals report raw numbers. Just as raw numbers are displayed on dept of health websites.
You said you’ve “seen” this. What hospital system do you work for ?

HIPAA violation would be mentioning names and results. But that was kind of my point...it should be if it’s not unless employees allowed and signed consent. And it was people that are clinical

If it’s allowed by law, and I don’t mention any details why would it be a violation?

Covid has changed the rules on a lot of things.

I don’t know all the details and how HIPAA may have changed. I just remember having the requirement to mask names(some to most other personal data) unless it was an authorized medical professional granted permission to look at the information.

Meaning you can’t just randomly look at peoples info even for shits and giggles.

I don’t work at a hospital. I have been told by people who do, that I know, that said what I stated above. Hence the reason I asked. You obviously do work at a hospital. So maybe it’s being done differently in different locations or maybe the people I’ve spoken to don’t know what there talking about. Just curious.

well the people I’ve spoken to on it are RN or higher and work in medical field so maybe that is how...I have no clue but I know all our software must be compliant and as a sales rep I cannot see any medical information, charts, etc so that’s why I found it interesting. And I didn’t get or ask a lot of details because it doesn’t really effect me. Just found it interesting that people had such easy access to it with a doctors order

I got you. These people don’t know what they are talking about. A hospital that reports 20% filled beds when it’s easily verifiable that It’s not would lead to major issues. Ambulances are dependent on hospital bed capacity as well, and ambulances are required by law to transfer emergent cases to their nearest hospital or nearest trauma center If indicated. There are certain exceptions, including diverting ambulances in the event a hospital is at capacity. Falsely reporting bed capacity such that ambulances may be impacted (in your scenario, they eventually would) is a violation of a federal law.

My son tested positive, he was sick a couple of days. I might have had it, I felt sick a few days shortly after he tested positive. I did not get tested, but was out of work for 14 days.
