To our 110 Society Members –
As we come to the close of 110 Society's first full calendar year of operations, we want to thank you – without you, none of our NIL progress would have been possible. Our organization, which we founded because of our love of Clemson Athletics, provides meaningful NIL opportunities to Clemson’s student-athletes, which has become vital to competitive excellence. Thanks to you, we’re proud that 110 Society was able to partner with 176 Clemson student-athletes during 2024, and we look forward to more in 2025.
Our stated mission has been to start and organize a donor-oriented collective to support Clemson Athletics by creating a vehicle for donors to support individual student-athletes for NIL activity.
The tactics of our mission have evolved over the 12 months of our existence. As NCAA policies, state legislation, the House case settlement, and guidelines have evolved, the University's individual sports teams have been able to engage more directly. Now, 110 Society focuses on contracting, monitoring and paying the student-athletes while NIL valuations and negotiations will eventually transition to the athletic department as part of revenue sharing discussions.
From the beginning, IPTAY – Clemson's best-in-class athletics fundraiser – has answered the call in the assistance of raising donor funds for 110 Society, and has recently announced the ability to grant priority points for 110 Society donations, which now are recognized for IPTAY Priority Points. A priority for 110 Society from inception was to minimize operational and overhead costs to ensure the most money possible made it to our student-athletes. We are proud to report that in our first year of operations, 110’s overhead was less than 9.5%. That means more than90 cents of each donated dollar made it to our student-athletes. In2025, we expect that the overhead percentage will drop further to an estimated 5%, as we won’t have the start-up costs and will be less involved negotiations with the student-athletes as revenue sharing agreements become more common.
With the House settlement expected to formally be enacted on July 1, 2025, we are preparing for our role to evolve further, as the Clemson University Athletic Department and IPTAY will then be able to distribute revenue to student-athletes directly. Since more details have yet to be decided for how Clemson Athletics will fully operationalize within the parameters of the House settlement, we will remain an important piece of the holistic NIL solution that Graham Neff recently announced. This approach includes contributions from 110 Society, Clemson Ventures, ESM and IPTAY. And, so, we will need to stay nimble until the dust settles on these changes in the industry.
