Chase Elliot’s major snowboarding injury Friday reminds me of when some surgery residencies prohibited snow skiing. A leg fracture could devastate the program for a while and screw over the other residents. And unlike illness it was considered preventable. Nobody thought to protest it in the 1980s.
While saying all the right things, I’m sure Chase’s team owner is pissed. Analogous to a college football player suffering a season ending injury playing pickup basketball. That happens sometimes. Freedom of choice, though.
