Stephen Smith says Trump is winning the NFL Anthem Debate

Our country is in deep doodoo. For Clapper Comey and Clinton to not be in jail or even charged with a crime tells you all you need to know.

Unfortunately, his tax plan is of disproportionate benefit to wealthy individuals like Trump.

“Trump’s return shows that he’s pushing tax changes that benefit multimillionaire heirs like him, not the middle class,” said Lily Batchelder, a tax law professor at New York University and former majority chief tax counsel for the Senate Finance Committee. “His proposal to repeal the A.M.T. would have slashed his own tax burden by $31 million [in 2005 (the one recent year we have information on Trump's taxes)], and his income tax rate would be lower than the average rate paid by families earning $75,000 to $100,000.”

On the irony, here is Trump - insinuating that his plan would hurt him - discussing his tax plan:

"First and foremost, our tax system should benefit loyal, hardworking Americans and their families. (Applause.) That is why tax reform must dramatically simplify the tax code, eliminate special interest loopholes -- and I'm speaking against myself when I do this, I have to tell you. And I might be speaking against Mr. Cook, and we're both okay with it, is that right? It's crazy. We're speaking -- maybe we shouldn't be doing this, you know?" said Donald Trump.

Why do you care how much taxes Trump pays. He has paid more taxes than you will ever make. But the real problem is not who pays what taxes the REAL problem is the Government squandering the money and not being able to even put together a balanced budget. a $20 Trillion dollar national debt is the real problem.

Barack Obama - The national debt grew the most dollar-wise during President Obama's two terms. He added $7.917 trillion, a 68 percent increase, in seven years.

George W. Bush - President Bush added the second-greatest amount to the debt, at $5.849 trillion.

And thank goodness Trump plans to repeal the Estate Tax for all those honest, hard-working Americans...

I wonder how many people here know that the first $5.5M of an estate is already exempt from federal taxation. What Trump is really doing is avoiding taxation of estates like his that are worth $100Ms to $Billions from any federal taxation.

Fundamental question: Why should you have to pay taxes because you died? Because they have it and you don't?

His tax plan would raise my taxes since I pay more than 12k a year in child care. As that's the exact amount he raises the normal deduction while eliminating childcare tax.

Trump is a response to the left going way too far. So I think conservatives answered with a big middle finger trump. I think most conservatives see him for what he is but they are tired of being preached to by the liberal media and fake news. Even espn is wildly liberal these days.
California just made it legal to give someone aids and illegal to call them by the wrong pronoun. Trump is the rights version of “screw this” imo. He is their version of “ we can play the crazy game too”. I think most Americans would rather have someone in the middle but after 8 years of liberals going to the far far left the other side had had enough and just simply said screw it. At least this guy is willing to stand up for what many Americans believe(standing for pledge) and not back down from the liberal media because he is scared of optics.

Why should Mitt Romney and Warren Buffet have a lower effective tax rate than average middle class Americans?

Why should Americans jump on board with a Tax plan that disproportionately aids the ultra-wealthy by rolling back taxes that are meant to level the playing field - something Trump harps on daily?

The gap between the haves and have nots is widening in this country. Those at the very top are becoming ever more wealthy. If you don't tax those estates that are worth greater than $10Ms, do you think that gap is going to close? Do you think that not taxing those estates will have a positive impact on our National Debt?

Wonderin' where you got your inside info on Trump's taxes considering he hasn't released them for public scrutiny?? And whatever happened after he claimed a billion dollar loss on his business empire??? And if his tax cuts goes through that $20 trillion debt is going to increase significantly.

Understanding someone's motivations for doing something is extremely important (e.g., this Board and the country have been hyper focused on what drove the Las Vegas shooter to commit a heinous act).

When looking at a tax plan proposed by someone who has much to gain (or lose) - made himself very wealthy through business - it is all the more important to understand how the plan will impact that individual. Where do their interests really lie? With the American people, just because he says so? I think we all know that you cannot take any politician on his/her word.

Are we so excited by a single, shiny penny being thrown our way that we turn a blind eye to those that are being thrown bags full of dollar bills?

It's much better than my sadness at the thought of having another America-hatin' lib in office ala Obama.
Holy hell, do you solely watch Fox News?
Johnhugh and iceheart08, I read your liberal dribble on this board from time to time about how we are all just a bunch of racist, conservative, fox watching, Neanderthals that go to church own guns and still love our country. It must really gripe yawls ass that we have taken about 2000 seats from the Democrats the last eight years with more on the way!

If you truly think Donald trump has done himself any favors in the past year you are sorely mistaken

Please @johnhugh ...enlighten me with some of the "patriotic" things Obama did while in office...
I have told you I don't pay attention to politics
This sounds eerily similar to the things we heard during the primaries & general election...
The fact that winning an election has become who can stoop the lowest is a sad indication of where this country is. Whatever happened to conducting yourself with respect and professionalism

I have told you I don't pay attention to politics

Sure you don't...which explains why you're in pretty much every political thread...
When in doubt, play dumb right?

The fact that winning an election has become who can stoop the lowest is a sad indication of where this country is. Whatever happened to conducting yourself with respect and professionalism

You obviously know nothing about Hillary then...

This is correct imo. And the left responded to his election by doubling down on crazy.

why should the gap close? Whats wrong with some being wealthy and some not? Why do we all have to be equal? This is why, imo, a tax rate that is flat is fair for all. We can't all pay the same dollar amount but we could all pay the same percentage.

I'm not advocating for equal wages. But wages have not gone up in a number of years for the vast number of working Americans. This is occurring while the stock market continues to break records and corporate profits skyrocket.

Where is all this extra $ going...? To the tip top income earners. The number of hundred millionaires and billionaires has exploded in the last decade.

What right does the government have to an individuals wealth accumulated over time just because they died?

The only thing that will have a positive impact on our national debt is creating a budget that starts at being balanced and then starts to create a surplus over time that can work on reducing that debt. Until that happens it doesn't matter what tax system you have in place. If they don't fundamentally change the thought process on the federal budget no tax plan will fix it, they will just spend more money on some BS plan that gets votes and wastes money.

What right does the government have to an individuals wealth accumulated over time just because they died? [What right does the government have to my earnings that I make weekly? The government raises money in various ways to pay for public services. We disagree on some issues of a tax plan, that's okay. That is the democratic process.]

Until that happens it doesn't matter what tax system you have in place. [Tax plan and balanced budget are not exclusive of each other, as one can tackle both issues at once. But fundamentally, the less money the government raises through taxes, the harder it will be to balance the budget. I disagree very much that when billionaires and hundred millionaires pass each year, that taxes on their estates have little impact on the amount of taxes raised by the US govt].

I suppose your definition of turning the country around includes edging closer to war, tax breaks for the wealthy, going backwards in general civil rights, and a total lack of professionalism?
Put me on the side that sometimes our military is the tool of diplomacy that is needed. If we go to war with allies against NK then I am all for it. But we better be all in agreement. I hate when people still think talking can solve the problem when we have tried for so long. If Dennis Rodman cant talk him down then force may be needed.

What is sad to me is just how divided this country is currently. After all we have been through as a nation, this is where we are right now. It's more than just a debate about free speech or civil rights. There is just so much hatred out there among our people.
And I find all of it absolutely disgusting. Even our "sports" are divided now. It's a real drag...

I agree with this post for sure, and that's a damn shame b/c IMHO this is exactly what's wrong with this country. People can can honestly disagree on things and still be "good people". But now if you are conservative or liberal the other side honestly thinks that you are trying to destroy the country. I'm no fan of Trump, as everyone on here knows, and I've been called a bunch of names by folks who honestly believe that because I don't like our President that I somehow hate America and what it stands for. If you are a conservative and you honestly don't believe in taking down our historical statues from the Civil War, then all of a sudden, you are a Nazi, racist pig and are trying to destroy America.

Reagan once famously said that when a person agrees with you 70% of the time, that person is your friend, not your enemy. We have definitely lost site of this and that 30% can look like a chasm at times. But if people can actually have a civil debate and work together, we could get stuff done. You know that 70% is a C. And as I tell my students, C's get degrees. It's not ideal, but it works. If Congress does that, we'd be a lot better off than we are now.
