Well, I can't say I'm a fan of China buying US property. But why WOULD'NT Bill Gates be able to buy land in the US? He's a US Citizen after all. Hell, Bezos owns almost half a million acres of farmland in Texas (WAY more than Bill Gates by the way). Farmland is a stable investment and a hedge against inflation. It's what rich folks do.
I had one of my idiot friends (a big Trump guy) tell me ALL ABOUT how Bill Gates was buying up all the farmland in the US and already owned most of it. He heard that on one of the media platforms he follows. Unsurprisingly, when I looked it up, it wasn't true. Gates owns a ton of farmland (270,000 acres). But that's not the majority of the 900,000,000 acres in the US. In fact, Gates owns right at .03% of the farmland in the US. If he bought 100 times as much as he already owns, he would own ALMOST 1% of all US farmland. Not quite 50%, but something to keep an eye on I guess.
edit. Bad math on my part...Gates would have to buy 30 times the land to have almost 1%, not 100
