Nope, I don't have any idea who you are, nor do I care. You are who you are. You could be man/woman/other and any race under the sun and it doesn't matter to me in the slightest. I made the comment I did b/c of what you SAID, not who you are. You claimed that a group of people were a joke to you based on their identity. The above newly elected public official could be the greatest thing since sliced bread or an incompetent buffoon, we have no idea. Time will tell based on her skill set (which has nothing to do with her gender identity) But when you make a sweeping statement that all people that identify the same way are a joke, you are generalizing a group of people based on something that's every bit as irrelevant to who they really are and what they are capable of as the color of their skin.

I hear you brother. I'm already there... To be perfectly honest, the whole LGBT thing makes me unconfortable, but my 15 year old doesn't care. He honestly doesn't give a crap one way or the other. That's awesome. Fortunately, while I have limited control about how I feel/think about certain things, I do have COMPLETE control on what I say and do.

I KNOW that prejudging people based on stereotypes is wrong and even though I have those built in biases, I don't have to act on them. Hopefully I can crush those inner beliefs and they will eventually go away...

I think this is an underrepresented viewpoint. I did not grow up with many (if any) gay friends. I was not exposed to people of the same gender being affectionate with each other so it's still weird to me. It's not "there's a couple kissing" it's "that's two dudes kissing" in my brain. However, I acknowledge that's my own hangups. It's no skin off my nose if two guys like each other and it'd make me an asshole to make a stink about it. Instead, I'll be mildly uncomfortable and get a little less uncomfortable over time.

We will have to agree to disagree. Transgender is a joke to me unless there is a scientific reason why you changed gender. Nor will I accept it. And yes I do know a transgender. I don't see the correlation between skin color and this because like I said, you are born black, white, Asian whatever it may be. People who just want to change sexes just cause and expect me to identify them as their new identity just isn't going to happen.

It would help for me to understand it more, yes. That won't prevent people from doing it just because they can though. My friends dad did and he is only doing it to distance himself from their family. As for now, I do not agree with it.

There's pretty strong scientific evidence that you are born gay or straight and that you don't "choose" to be one or the other. Certainly the American Medical Association supports that point of view as they condemn any "conversion" therapy to change your sexual preference. So I see it as EXACTLY the same thing. The transgender thing is a pretty new concept b/c medical tech has just gotten to the point where you can actually change your sex. And I don't see why you wouldn't if that were an option.

I do not see it as the same thing as gay or lesbian. Have no problem with that, I don't agree with it but if that's what they want then go ahead. I'm saying I have a problem with someone changing their sex and then expecting me to call them by their new identity. If it is scientifically proven that they were born one sex and are actually the other then okay. But it hasn't. Why do you keep trying to bait me in to saying something that I don't feel? I won't agree with it no matter what you say. And no I was raised in northern Virginia and never had a problem with being biracial.
