maybe ..... but looking at the numbers, its a impossibility that we are alone in the Universe.
I listened to a excellent pod cast between Neil Degrasse Tyson and Jill Tartar (SETI) and the biggest take away was how much of our galaxy we have analyzed and why havent we found any intelligent life. Basically Tartar simplified it by comparing and setting the volume of our galaxy to the volume of the oceans on earth and then asking the question "Are there fish in the ocean?" In this scenario, the amount of "space" that we have analyzed would be equivalent to a 12oz glass of water.
The problem is that the distances between us and stars that have exo-planets in a habitable zone are .....incomprehensible.
Now a AWESOME conspiracy theory is that UFOs/Aliens arent beings from another planet, but rather the remnants of ancient earth civilizations that survived the great flood at the end of the younger dryas era. LIZZZARD PEOPLE!!!!

“Whistleblower protections” don’t apply to classified information. That’s why the most damaging public releases of classified government info over the last 30 years (Manning, Winner, Snowden, etc) have all resulted in serious legal jeopardy for the person responsible for the release.
If this guy isn’t hiding in another country or rotting in a supermax hole right now - and the government doesn’t have to abide by “normal” detention protocols when dealing with unauthorized release of high level D/NSCI classified info - then the overwhelmingly likely reason is that false information can’t be classified.

More seriously, there’s a 100% chance that the universe is home to sentient life besides our own. It’s not even a question to me. I assume it as fact.
On the other hand, I think the media and your average person vastly overestimates the chance that sentient life is remotely close to us.
We are unable to utilize all of Earth’s energy. Imagine a species that can utilize all of its home world’s energy. Then imagine one that can utilize all of its home star’s energy. Finally imagine one that can harness the energy of an entire galaxy. That is the scale of life we are considering.
I don’t think a species close to our level will be capable of reaching us over thousands or hundreds of light years. A higher order species won’t give a shit
