The most telling sentence is the people voting against their interests part. If our government is run as it was intended and in the way that made it successful, what a person's interests are shouldn't matter because the government should have almost no role in things of that nature. The whole idea of the word "united" is that we can govern in such a way that benefits all Americans. People voting their interests is why we're in this mess to begin with.
