Unemployment

Thanks for not acknowledging a single word I said. You just proved the point that we have all gotten so tribal we don’t here what anyone said.

And by the way, President Trump just gave a pretty sobering update on where we stand in the fight against COVID-19. You still sticking with your “this is no big deal” line? Trump and the Task Force just said 100,000 - 240,000 deaths are likely. And that model assumes that social distancing and stay at home orders are across the board (which they are not).

I’m assuming you’d rather not refute my response to your statement.

In regards to COVID, we’ll see where the numbers end up. If you have any ability to interpret, you’d see they don’t really believe 100k will even die. They have their reasons for stating those figures.

You are absolutely ridiculous. I gave you my opinion and justification for my opinions. You just make shit up and throw it against the wall. You are right until you are wrong...

Again, you’re incapable/unwilling to logically dispute. Have fun in neutral, but also know in doing so, that doesn’t make you noble.

Just let her revel in doom and gloom. Maybe her negativity will cause her to get it and exit stage left. I’m optimistic they things will be much better by mid May.

Ha ha, not a she bit doesn’t matter. And I never said I was noble, just that I’m going to make my own decision on any situation or policy proposed by either side. But @Earle36 I appreciate you jumping in to this thread wishing me to get the virus and die. You know, in the spirit of all that this country stands for.

Except the government has supported consumption policies that have made all businesses and people tight on savings. I don’t congratulate the government for killing the dollar why they try and prop up a fake economy. Things will get much worse economically in the future.

First, that's a ridiculous statement on consumption policies. Secondly, the USD was at a three year high two weeks ago against the Euro. So what stupid crap are you espousing about killing the dollar?

Give it time, the dollar will see lows, it doesn’t happen all at once. And our entire economy is paid for with tomorrow’s future. People, companies, governments, all running on tomorrow’s spent money.

what is the purpose of a stimulus check?

What really scares me is that I'm sure I know people in real life who are just like you.

I keep my circle tight, which is a must. Many very successful friends of mine keep it simple, which is the best way, and once you rise above the low hanging fog... you’ll see the truth.

If you’re actually afraid of what you claim, then your position/stance in life is easily identified.

Tell the truth - you wear a tinfoil hat don’t you?

I've just been told that my company is Furloughing employees after the current week. Does anyone know if I have to wait until after my last day of pay to file for unemployment, or can I start now since I know my last date? I'm not sure how the process works.

you need to find out from your employer whether they are doing Employer Filings. If so, you just have to create an UE profile and go in each week to certify what your employer submitted. Most large companies will be filing for their employees. If your employer will not be filing for you, you’ll want to go in at the end of each week and file that you didn’t work.

I may be wrong, but isnt the model they are using extrapolating the data from ny and nj and applying it to the entire country? If so, no way the death toll will be that high. Why also ignore the data from the Stanford professors and others that say it will not be nearly that bad and this is overblown? Imo, the admin has reversed from under playing it to over playing it that way in 2-4 weeks they can say the steps the country has taken have made a huge diff (lower deaths than expected) and start to open things back up. That's my hope in all this.

I appreciate criticism but I’d expect you to be able to explain why you feel that way. I form opinions based on my own research and economic understanding. I don’t expect to be always right, but I have trouble finding people explain the current system and why it isn’t flawed.

Why would the government not want someone to save a stimulus check or pay off existing debt? The condition is for them to spend money on cheap crap to crank up consumption.

The federal savings rate is artificially low and punishes savers. Prior to 1971 savers were rewarded. Now people don’t save and shocker, most people can’t afford a 400 dollar expense....

Fast forward today and people are begging the government to save them. I believe people wouldn’t be as screwed if the government didn’t promote economic policies that promotes consumption and punishes savers.

Savings is the opposite of consumption. You say the government doesn’t promote consumption over savings. I argue that the obvious economic condition of people and companies clearly indicates the consumption policies pushed by government.

(The fed is about to bailout bankrupt states, bankrupt companies, and bankrupt people) I hope you enjoy socialism. People like you blindly supporting centrally planned economic policies has caused our population to demand the government to control everything. Socialism is follows capitalism. After the government wrecks everything we can go back to free markets.

Yes

I was laid off last October and just exhausted my unemployment during the first week in March. Does anyone know if this will change that state-wise and also will I receive the $600 from the federal government.

Best post in this thread. Now watching my 2nd big bailout of cooperations and the FED cranking out money lol cuz its free... Meanwhile every working persons wealth goes down in value. We have to take care of each other, but jfc we always bail out the cooperations now because they have NO incentive to save their money. Its bs policy thats put us in this place.
