If Iran left Israel alone, there would be no problem. Israel doesn't seek confrontation, but they do respond to it.We can say that if or when Israel and Saudi Arabia normalize relations. Otherwise a large part of Sinwar's assessment is correct, that they could get Israel to take off its mask and go wild.
They'll never admit it publically, but to Hamas, Israel engaging in a devasting war and kicking the Palestinians out is a better outcome than the sort of slow death they were facing before. It will keep anger and war alive in the region. They won't disappear in exile. Exile radicalized them.
As far as the assault itself, they got what they wanted from it. The media has largely moved on from their attrocities (roughly 800 civilians killed, women raped, surrendering soldiers killed), and the military aspect was a humiliation for the Israelis.
They just can't do it though.
"DEATH TO AMERICA, DEATH TO ISRAEL". What part of this do you not understand?
