Having lived in Virginia for over 15 years, think there is an uncanny comparison of the two football programs. When George Welch coached UVA they became a very competitive team and had several years of being nationally ranked. However, their overall success has been limited. During Frank Howard's era the Tigers beat them about every year (29 straight or something like that)...so much so that Coach Howard called them "white meat"...the chickens from Columbia have really never been much better than UVA. They have had some periods of success (all teams do) but after living in South Carolina now for the past 15 years, the two programs really do mirror one another. UVA did occasionally beat their arch rival, Va Tech, just as our Tigers lose to our arch rival....but only occasionally.
