I don’t think you will find many liberals who would argue that would argue against the notion that tax cuts benefit the economy. The problem is that the benefit is short lived.

Of course the bigger problem is the impact that tax cuts have on the deficit. This is why the GOP deficit hawks managed to add about $8T to the national debt.

You see, another basic economic principle is that you cannot cut your income and expect it to be sustainable without cutting your expenses. While cutting taxes and not cutting expenses can have short term benefits, it has much more disastrous long term drawbacks.

That society and government create the structure for business to thrive, and that government needs to have enough resources to continue setting the stage for that success. To us, setting the stage includes funding social programs and using the government to support the most marginalized in our society.

To answer your post. In theory what you say may be true but somewhere between The New Deal and now people began abusing the the social program funding to think that was set up for what we now call Welfare Society and never leave that "situation".
Republicans believe it's ok to use the system to get away from your "situation" while learning how to leave and educate yourself on the ways to get out of the "ghetto" ( not literally but you get my point).

There is never a true black/white phenomenon unless you're so far left or right that no deviance is allowed.
Me? You'd be surprised to know how much I deviate from true Conservative right thinking except for economics and how the money system works for which I'm very knowledgeable.
