What are you paying for gas today?

Oil is the worlds most global market and a very simple example of global supply and demand. Not like the US is the only place where prices are high but I guess the US president is the reason energy prices in Europe have exploded too

You're trolling right? Low supply and high demand increases prices, I think we all agree on that. One of Bidens first moves as president was shutting down the keystone pipeline, which effectively decreases supply. A few months later Biden helped approve the Nordstream pipeline sending gas from Russia to Germany. By the end of 2021 Germany shut down all but 3 of their nuclear energy plants. That makes them completely dependent on Russia for energy. Without nuclear, demand for oil increases. Russia invaded Crimea less than 10 years ago. Completely senseless to rely in Russia for all of your energy needs. As a member of NATO the United States has definitely played a part in recent events. During all of these events Biden has been our commander in chief.
 
Batteries are made of nickel and cobalt. Price of both is exploding. EVs were $100-$150K before this haha

I believe that combustion engines will eventually be a thing of the past or relegated to niche markets. I think tesla makes a great product. The new silverado EV has caught my eye as well. The problem is that the transition to EVs is being rushed and the burden of that transition is being placed on the working class. The cheapest model Tesla produces is 45k sticker price.

Most people can't afford that. So, most people have to continue to pay these outrageous gas prices. This is an unnecessary burden on the lower and middle class that the left claims they represent. I really feel for anyone working paycheck to paycheck that now has to make tough decisions when budgeting. This particularly affects rural Americans who may have to drive 20 plus miles to and from work each day. Can you imagine making around 100 dollars a day and having to spend 15 of that each day on gas? Not to mention inflation, rising transportation costs, housing cost etc. Some really tough times ahead for a lot of families

My only question(s) are, will State and Federal governments build enough infrastructure to support the use of Electric Vehicles (power sources, charging stations, etc). If we converted all vehicles to electric today there is no way our current infrastructure could sustain the demand. When you have states like California that purchase 30% (+|-) of its power from sources outside of California it is impossible to increase demand without building new means of supply. The other issue is the affordability to the consumer. At the current state, there are studies that show it costs more to purchase, operate and maintain an Electric car over the life of its existence than a conventional vehicle. Which begs to question, when Electric energy usage outpaces Fossil fuel for transportation what will happen to the pricing structure of the Electricity that will be needed? I suspect same as fossil fuels.... rising costs and other mitigating circumstances will prompt us to find better more efficient producing power sources.

there's more than just tesla out there. the all new nissan leaf has a 100+ mile range and room for a family of 4 all from just $27,000.

Exactly. How much work needs to be done to allow our power grid to support charging 100s of millions of cars on a daily basis? When will there be as many charging stations as gas stations? How long does it take to charge and how long will that charge last? If I want to take a road trip from SC to Texas, I don't want to zig zag my way across the southeast in order to go sit at charging stations along the way. I'm all for cleaner air, cheaper energy, and a reduced toll on the environment. We just aren't ready yet. In the meantime, we need some realistic solutions that will ease the strain on American families.

Lots of 'conservatives' really expect Uncle Sam to provide them with gas at less than market value.
Biden cut off federal support of the Keystone XL pipeline which is at most 10% complete and has never moved any oil at all. Many who hate the current president are writing that his actions regarding Keystone have reduced the current supply of oil.

From a personal standpoint, gas is a very small part of our budget, it doesn’t even make the top 20 monthly now that we both work from home.

Unfortunately it’s going to drive costs elsewhere. I tried to get a flight to London for next week and it was $5k for comfort class.

It is already starting to affect the steel market among other items needed for my industry. Air, Rail and Truck transportation will surely drive the costs up on just about every consumer purchased item. Which means the gains we saw in wages will be dwarfed by the rising prices at the check stands. This is the other side of trickle down economics. Hey look on the bright side, we will be paying more in sales tax among other fees and taxes so our deficit spending should go down....RIGHT? Yeah, No!

A 100 mile charge will require two charging stops in order to get from greenville to myrtle beach. Truckers drive 14 hours a day. Until an EV can make those type of trips with minimal interruption, the technology is just not viable

I think what most are actually saying is that the burden on the American people can be diminished if Domestic Production would be better implemented. The Keystone Pipeline is but one example of this administration killing domestic projects to the detriment of our own people. Keystone isn't the direct answer to today's problem. However it does have the potential to mitigate some of the production and import issues and helps in breaking the binds that OPEC brings. It is more about tomorrow than today. Adding moratoriums to new leases and permits for drilling is a sure fire way to make us wholly dependent on foreign energy, especially OPEC.

Why not just receive the oil then withhold payment.

I am in the pipe business and prices are going thru the roof and not stopping anytime soon. That infrastructure bill is going to do a lot less than they planned over the long haul, at this rate!

I see what you're saying, but 27k is still a lot of money for a working class family. Now, if we could implement a subsidy for buyers within a certain income range then I could be convinced. Who knows how long that would take to get through congress.

I think in time EV/automated trucking will be a game changer. Just needs a little more work to get to that point. There would need to be enough repair shops and charging stations nationwide to prevent any delays. 500 miles may seem like a lot to you and me, but that's really only a 7 or 8 hour drive in an industry that operates around the clock. There are also some towing and weight capacity issues that need to be addressed.
 
14 hr drive days? What? Federal regulation only allows for 11 hours of driving per day. You can work for 14 hrs, but you can only drive for 11

7500 federal EV tax credit drops it to 20k baseline. that credit is available on all nissan cars. unfortunately Tesla has already sold their share of EVs so they're not eligible, but the credit is for EVs under ~60k.
