Notre Dame Football Practice Report - Wide Receivers
*** Senior Beaux Collins was the most impressive receiver during the first practice. Thomas was the best route runner of the day, both in drills and competition periods (1 on 1, team). Collins doesn't have the raw speed that some of the other receivers have, but he got off the line well, showed a good initial burst and got to full speed quickly. Collins ability to quickly sink his hips and get out of breaks was impressive. It allowed him to get good separation, and he caught the ball well. He beat Chance Tucker on an In cut on his first 1-on-1 but the ball was sailed high. On his next rep he torched Tucker for a long touchdown. He beat Tucker badly and got free by well over five yards. It was the most impressive 1-on-1 rep during the period. Later in the practice, Collins got a strong vertical release against Gray and then quickly dropped into a comeback route that had Gray turned around. Gray was upset with himself after the rep, but this was a great learning experience for Gray, because not many receivers are going to run that route better than what Collins did.
