Could be. Many said that when Nixon was elected. Especially when Reagan and HW was elected. Sure felt like it when W was elected. And the reverse said it when Roosevelt was elected every time. And when Truman was elected there was a feeling there would never be a Republican president again. That is why we have a two term limit for a President. Clinton would have won it three times.
Why did he need a pardon then? Is evading taxes not a crime? Is smoking crack legal? Is lying on a federal gun form not a crime? Is not registering as a foreign agent a crime?
Are these crimes or not?

Hunter had yet to have been sentenced when his father and US President pardoned him. His sentencing was a week away. So yeah, i would say most people in his position would say they "need" a pardon, or would certainly like one. Smoking crack is illegal for expectant mothers in many states the last time i looked, but generally speaking, user status of a drug is not a crime. What is a crime is to possess it, sell it, or manufacture it. He was convicted of two criminal acts. One is normally not pursued when you pay all back taxes and fines, as he did. Hunters biggest mistake was not getting a gun from a state like South Carolina, where our current gun laws allow gun transfers as gifts to be super easy, even to those under the age of 21. I am not defending Hunter, nor the President, just answering your questions.

I understand what you are saying. I ABSOLUTELY believe that Trump would do the same thing. That doesn't make it the right thing though. The President of the US pardoning a family member who has been convicted of a crime (or in this case pleaded guilty) is both surprising and alarming.
I truly believe he meant it when he said he wouldn't pardon him but that changed when Trump nominated Dark Vader for head of the FBI, a guy who has openly stated he was all-in on assisting Trump with his thirst for revenge. We all know Kash would have persecuted the man mercilessly and would have enjoyed it in a sinister, sadistic way. Hunter has been publicly tortured for five years now and Joe just said enough is enough. He didn't want to die with his only remaining son in prison and under the thumb of a lawless fiend. I don't blame Joe at all.
But Trump didn't do the same thing when he had the chance. So why do you believe otherwise?

You missed the point- it doesn't matter if they are guilty or not because we know that Trump and Kash are amoral vengeance seekers who would put them through investigations simply to harass them and drain them financially, even though they know an exoneration would be likely. The pain is the point so Joe pre-empted it so they could live in peace.
Oh hey, thanks for chiming in. Maybe you can help @hopefultiger13 out a little bit. He seems to think that accepting a pardon implies that you are guilty in the court of law. Using this logic, that many democrats like Adam Schiff and Chuck Schumer agree with, can you tell us what crimes the Biden family members are guilty of? They were granted and accepted pardons, so what crimes did they commit?
I doubt they are guilty of anything and certainly not for anything the Trump family hasn't also done. But again
I actually looked it up... The only SCOTUS opinion on this I could find was in 1915 (Burdik vs. the US). Here's the SCOTUS's statement on the matter:

So there you go. I have no opinion on what Dems (or Republicans) think of it. Just that there's a SCOTUS ruling. If there's another ruling changing it, I'll change my toon. Until then, that's the law of the land.

Sure... Unlike you, I'm a law and order guy. If someone (ANYONE) did something against the law. Investigate them, charge them, put them on trial, and lock them up. YOU on the other hand, seem to be a law and order guy as long as it doesn't have anything to do with Trump. If Trump gets investigated, it MUST be some sort of corruption, b/c he'd NEVER do anything wrong.

if hunter biden is involved in something, you can bet that it is nothing meritorious, magnaminous, or admirable. a rumbling, stumbling, dishonest, drug addicted, prostitution seeking individual who hopefully for him is on a path of sobriety and doing something worthwhile in his life. Despite lengthy, repeated, multi-years investigations by state prosecutors, federal prosecutors, DOJ, congress, you name it, no one could come up with enough probable cause to even bring the slightest other charges against him for any of the other stuff the hate hunter biden crowd continues to be up in arms about. there is no law against being the vice presidents son and telling everyone you do business with that you are the vice presidents son. its over so get over it. and trumps court, in response to trumps lawsuits, has already said that the us president is immune so get over it and see what the future presidents will do. Trump will do the same thing for his family when he leaves office and he probably should.

stupid for anyone to say that , repub or demo. , or to refuse when you know your worst enemy has just been elected sheriff, whether you know you did anything wrong or not. . a preemptive pardon doesnt have to mean anyone is guilty of anything. it just dissuades further investigation with a whats the point? it seems to me like this would be a relief to the trump administration. politically, trump has a far-reaching agenda that is going to be very time consuming and continuing the otherwise fruitless witch hunts that require a lot of work on law enforcement, congress, the courts, etc, so seems like trumps admin would say, thank you joe, its one less thing on our plate, and we have a lot more important things to do. its not like trump hasnt ever pardoned anyone nor broke the law. welcome to the new standard for presidents.
