Pretty cool. Hard to believe it took someone this long to figure out. Has to be outlawed correct? Either that or stadiums will be obsolete.

They hit 8 home runs in the game they started using them.

Tough call for baseball. Celebrate innovation or make your parks obsolete?

As a baseball fan, definitely interested to see how this goes moving forward. Honestly shocked it’s never been done before

Judge homered again today.

Wonder how many homers he hits if they let it go all season?
I don’t think they can stop it if they fit under the rules they’ve set. Think they’d have to change in the offseason. More likely everyone else matches imo

It would seem to me, and I realize my opinion ain’t worth much, they should fix it now.

If they let it go and someone hits say, 96 homers, well that basically renders the season useless in terms of historical context. It would almost be a wasted season.

I don’t think that is good for baseball.

An interesting topic nonetheless

I haven’t seen any specifics. Do you know if the barrel of that bat is 2 3/4 but the end cap is 2 5/8? I’m trying to wrap my head around this. I know the rule was changed a while back, maybe 2005ish, where they went to 2 5/8 barrels.

I’m with you on not getting into specifics unfortunately. I’m somewhat assuming if they haven’t already shut it down, they can’t under current rules. I’ve always felt like the bats do vary. Always think back about Julio Franco for example.

Well those guys in the late 90s were grand fathered in. They were using 2 3/4 bats. I was watching the Braves and someone mentioned the new bats and how they are legal. But they wren’t clear on how or anything. I initially thought maybe they’d just moved the barrel “down” some but they actually look larger. The rule was you had something like 6” of linear barrel and it had always extended from before sweet spot to the end of the bat.

This is what I found but man those barrels look larger than the other bat in side by side photos.
The “torpedo” bats remain legal so long as they follow MLB Rule 3.02 which states: “The bat shall be a smooth, round stick not more than 2.61 inches in diameter at the thickest part and not more than 42 inches in length. The bat shall be one piece of solid wood.”
