Posted this in another thread but an article from a credible sports publisher analyzed the portal for CFB and highlighted the following stats:
More than 2400 FBS scholarship football players entered the portal.
More than 1900 of those found a scholarship elsewhere, so about 80%.
There were 1187 transfers from P5 programs. 90% of those are on scholarship elsewhere.
There were 1116 transfers from G5 programs. 23% of those transferred up to P5 programs.
98 FBS QBs transferred and about 50% of those transfers are starting this year.
Only 22 P5 grad OL entered the portal. And only 16 of those entered the portal in the spring.
But there was a 31% increase in non-graduate transfer OL in the portal.
Of the 392 FBS transfers who were uncommitted at the start of the season, some had already decided to go into coaching, some had academic issues, some had injuries preventing them from continuing their career, and some had legal issues that prevented teams from signing them.
Don’t buy the narrative that the portal is a bad thing.
