3 games into the season and we're 108th in total defense

Defense definitely hasn't been as good as expected but I was pretty shocked when I looked at the stats. To this point we have faced the UGA which is 65th in total offense, AppSt which is 39th in total offense and NCst which is 89th in total offense. We are giving up an average of 6.26 yds per play😯 I know some will say we have played a bunch backups the last 2 games but that doesn't tell the whole story, which a part of is our starting defense definitely hasn't been anywhere near what we all thought it was going to be.

Hello, I’m Johnny Cash’s statue: A monument to the singer is unveiled at the US Capitol

By: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — Johnny Cash now stands among the most famous politicians, trailblazers and activists of American history as he became the first professional musician to be honored with a statue in the U.S. Capitol.

Congressional leaders from both parties and members of the Cash family were among the several hundred guests who gathered Tuesday for the unveiling of the statue. They shared their memories of a man who grew up on an Arkansas cotton farm and turned a love of music into a decades-long career that gave voice to the struggles and triumphs of everyday Americans.

“Some may ask: Why should a musician have a statue here in the halls of the great American republic?” Speaker Mike Johnson said at unveiling ceremony. “The answer is pretty simple. It’s because America is about more than laws and politics.”

Each state selects two statues to place within the Capitol. The Cash statue is the second new figure Arkansas has sent to replace two existing images that had represented the state at the U.S. Capitol for more than 100 years. Another statue depicting civil rights leader Daisy Bates was unveiled at the Capitol earlier this year. Bates mentored the nine Black children who desegregated Little Rock Central High School in 1957.

The state’s legislature in 2019 voted to replace Arkansas’ two prior statues, which depicted little-known figures from the 18th and 19th centuries, with Bates and Cash.

Known as the “The Man in Black,” Cash was a vivid storyteller who sang with a deep voice songs like “I Walk The Line,” “Ring of Fire,” “Jackson” and “A Boy Named Sue.” The statue depicts the singer with a guitar slung across his back and a Bible in his hand. Little Rock sculptor Kevin Kresse created the statue.

Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries said artistic creativity is an important part of the country’s growth, and Cash’s “substance” and “swagger” inspired generations of artists from every genre imaginable. He quoted singers such as Bob Dylan and Snoop Dogg about Cash’s impact.

“He called Johnny Cash a real American gangster. That a compliment from Snoop Doggy Dog,” Jeffries said as the audience laughed. “What a life, what a legend, what a legacy.”

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders led a group of Arkansas lawmakers at the ceremony. She said she grew up in a musical family where “after God and country, came Johnny Cash.” She noted how Cash struggled with addiction but went on to perform for prisoners and held a deep religious faith. She described him as a “hymn-singing Christian” who also experienced difficult times.

“When so much in today’s world is fake, Johnny Cash was very real,” Sanders said.

Cash’s daughter, Rosanne Cash, said her father would have viewed the statue “as the ultimate” honor in his life. She said her father’s hard upbringing instilled in him a strong work ethic and that he loved the idea of America as a place of dreams and refuge.

“This man was a living redemption story,” Rosanne Cash said. “He encountered darkness and met it with love.”

Cash was born in Kingsland, a tiny town about 60 miles (100 kilometers) south of Little Rock. He died in 2003 at age 71. His achievements include 90 million records sold worldwide spanning country, rock, blues, folk and gospel. He is among the few artists inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Cash’s statue will be the newest added to the Capitol since one from North Carolina depicting the Rev. Billy Graham was unveiled in May.

What are your plans for Saturday?

Greetings all,

I’m taking a different approach to gameday this Saturday. I’m bypassing the tailgating scene, and hitting the downtown scene around noon until kickoff. Am I making a terrible mistake or will I still be able to enjoy myself at the bars during this time? I know they will be slammed pack, but I’m hoping it’s not a situation where I’m waiting 20 mins at the bar to get one beer. I’m a somewhat recent graduate so I can still handle the crowd size (for now). Any tips/advice or anyone else partaking in this also?

Let me know!

There will never be another Dabo Swinney

We can disagree with some of his methods, decision making on certain things but the man is one of most wise individuals I've ever heard speak. Just a little snippet from today's press conference is pure gold!

"It's not about what you say or they say but it's about what you do. What you do is a reflection of what you believe. Growth follows belief. Your belief will drive your habits and how you think ... half full or half empty. You have to create a belief that is greater than your fear that you can't. If you live your life from the outside in, you'll won't accomplish anything"

Question for the Daniel High guys regarding baseball incident.

What is up with the Mauro kid shoving the umpire in TN? My son send a video and that is not a good look. What do you think Payne will do? Video is in the link.

While we are critiquing all threads....

Well, I'm not going to take the time to look it up, but I think we have a summer time thread on how we'd rank the ACC teams. We are only 3-4 games into the season and there been very little conference play, but I think we have a better pulse on all the teams now. A lot can happen, however, I'm pretty sure we all were off on our preseason thoughts on the rankings. I know I was even though I will say that I didn't buy into some of the preseason takes.

I'll say this, because we can bust on them and Cris won't lock the tread 😀, the ACC Media voters really sucked. Here's how they voted.

1. Florida State (81) 2708 - What a huge swing and miss. Now, I didn't think FSU would be a bottom dweller, though I did pray for it, but I didn't buy into the hype either. Anyone with a pulse should have seen they were going to lose a few games. #1 is now on life support. First to worse couldn't happen to a more deserving fan base.
2. Clemson (55) 2657 - No complaints here. Tigers have a bright future if we can keep humming along.
3. Miami (17) 2344 - No complaints here either. Miami is the ACC's bell cow right now. I'm okay with that because I am safe in the knowledge that they will Mario something up during the season.
4. NC State (8) 2318 - LOL. Their easy schedule gave them hope. I guess it wasn't easy enough. I figured they'd peak at 9 wins but I guess I gave them too much credit. Swing and a miss.
5. Louisville 1984 - Meh. Easy schedule will keep them in the conversation. Pop Tart Bowl here they come.
6. Virginia Tech (5) 1968 - WTH? I know their schedule was softer than Charmin, but why did anyone think VT was going to be a winner? Because they brought back a lot? Bringing back sucky players isn't a winning recipe. It's a recipe for more losses. Raise your had if you have Clemson losing to VT in Blacksburg. You should self impose a one week posting ban for writing that down.
7. SMU 1798 - And raise your hand (not me) if you though a G5 team, who finished strong last year, was somehow going to compete with P4 teams? Yeah they may beat FSU, but that's nothing to brag about. This feel like a "we have to have token respect for one of the news schools vote."
8. North Carolina 1712 - I'm not sure I have an issue with this vote because UNC is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you ae going to get. The fact that we lose defensive recruits to a team that can't spell defense makes me sick. Bye bye Mack. UNC please go after Lane.
9. Georgia Tech (1) 1539 - Hey the Wreck aren't a wreck anymore. They are doing some wrecking. I think we are all pleasantly surprised. Dukes Mayo here they come.
10. Cal (2) 1095 - In three games you've brought more honor to the ACC that UNC football has done in 100 years. Nice job hippies.
11. Duke 1056 - Why couldn't we open with you this year instead of last?
12. Syracuse 1035 - Dang, Cuse with a pulse and a QB. Spending that NIL wisely. Good job Orange.
13. Pitt 1016 - Nice WVU win. I think you may be good. But I'm still not sure. Pinstripe Bowl sounds about right.
14. Boston College (1) 890 - BIG swing and miss by the pundits. BC is kicking butt. With their luck they will get the Fenway Bowl.
15. Wake Forest 784 - Got this one right. Wake, looks like all those 5th and 6th year players are gone. Good news is you'll be good again in 4 years.
16. Virginia 629 - Hold on now. The Fighting Tony's are making some noise. Move them up the list. The Tony of the Tiger Bowl sounds like the ideal landing spot.
17. Stanford 477 - We have a 4-0 team at the bottom. Not so fast my friends. Stanford is gooder at football than grammar and math.

A few comments after getting home from the game.

Holy smokes was it hot, it was tough on the kids and really took the crowd out of it once we got up 21

The whole hill experience is terrible. There is no excitement after Dabo standing there for 5 mins then coming down 2x2. Really bummed at how that’s handled now.

Offense looked crisp. OL is the MVP through 3 games Haynes looked good showed good acceleration and ran hard. 0/1/8/10 caught the ball well. Cade had a couple of so so throws and his stats won’t show it but I thought he looked better than against App. States ls defense was soft but he still got some pressure and made the right throws and ran it well. Really good game from him

I am afraid our defense is very average. They seem to lack aggression and we don’t look like we attack like years before. I have been behind Wes but I don’t think he is getting it done. Guys just don’t seem to play with the fire we are use to seeing and Lb play hasn’t been very good. Woodaz is playing well but Carter has had a bad year so far. I don’t care about stats much I am just going off the eye test. Where is the defense that showed up first half against UGA?

NC State is absolute trash but I thought Bailey looked like a promising young guy

Special teams looked pretty solid

Sammy Brown played better than against App but still some mistakes but you can tell he is going to be ok in time.

2nd/3rd defense team looks like they just go through the motions. Some of that might have been the temps and the score

First half defense…

No film or anything…but watched the abbreviated game so I’ll give you guys my thoughts since it seems to be the hot topic.

Unlike the UGA game, we played a ton of man. We are playing catch technique rather than pressing most of the time. We had some concerning coverage busts.

NC State ran a vertical, corner, and flat route out of trips…corner carried vertical but Barnes and LB both covered the flat (this is on Barnes). He almost got a finger on it.

One that particularly irked me…NC State ran the follow concept. WR ran vertical…both the FS and corner ran with it. They ran a wheel/follow behind it and a flat route in front. The secondary completely screwed poor Barrett Carter…who passed off the follow to defend the flat.

NC state used motion on nearly every snap to slow us down. Smart on their part. They had a good plan and I think their OL is pretty good.

Dabo love and more ITT

I LOVE that Dabo is doing things his way....letting his conscience guide him.....sticking to his core beliefs and values. His 1st and most important charge is to educate and grow young men.....Saban was the same way. Put the person 1st.

The current model that's threatening those morals and beliefs will soon change. Dabo would look like a fool - totally like a fake and ungenuine - if he gives in and then has to revert after the model changes.

Stay the course. We are still getting top notch recruits who value those morals and beliefs. Those who understand the American dream is achieving through hard work and not promised.

The rest of the recruits can continue getting beat downs at their 3rd school in 3 years wondering why the game isn't as easy as the bag they grabbed to get there.
