**** Bob Huggins

---

From Jeff Goodman at Stadium tonight ...

West Virginia Hall of Fame coach Bob Huggins has informed his team that he won’t be coaching them and intends to resign, following last night’s DUI incident, source told Stadium. Staff members and coaches were in tears as Huggins delivered the news around 9 pm ET, source told Stadium.

Huggins told the players that he was unsure who would be coaching them this season.

Huggins, 69, has 935 career victories and has a pair of Final Four appearances. The DUI comes about six weeks after he made homophobic comments on a Cincinnati radio show. Huggins was suspended for the first three games of next season and his contract was altered to a year-by-year agreement, and he also had his pay reduced by $1 million. According to the complaint, Huggins recorded a blood alcohol level of .210 on Friday night.

Low Country Boil (AKA Frogmore Stew)

I am making this for my wife's birthday. I am using potatoes, corn, kielbasa sausage, onions etc with Shrimp.
I am hoping someone can give me guidance on how best to NOT overcook the shrimp. I have used different methods in the past (cool water with ice, then cook shrimp, cook shrimp separate), but have not liked any of those approaches.

How do I cook the perfect shrimp for this wonderful recipe.....

Singer, songwriter and pianist Ray Charles passed away on this day in 2004 from liver failure, aged 73 (June 10)

Blind from about age 5 due to glaucoma, Charles pioneered the soul music genre during the 1950s by combining blues, jazz, rhythm and blues, and gospel styles into the music he recorded, and contributed to the integration of country music, rhythm and blues, and pop music during the 1960s.

Ray Charles has had countless hits, and has won 17 Grammy Awards, including 5 posthumously.
He was honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1987, and 10 of his recordings have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Rolling Stone ranked Charles #10 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, and #2 on their list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.

A true legend of music…

This week in 1985, the Uncanny X-Men LP “‘Cos Life Hurts” debuted on the Australian charts (June 10)

It was the debut album for Brian Mannix and the boys, after two EP releases, “SaliveOne!” in late 1982, and “Beach Party” in mid-1984.

It was one of the must-have Aussie rock band LPs of the era, and went on to peak at #3 on the National charts.

At the Countdown Australian Music Awards of 1985, which were held in April 1986, Uncanny X-Men were nominated for Most Popular Australian Group and Mannix for Most Popular Male Performer.

On this day in 1979, The Angels song “Shadow Boxer” debuted on the Australian charts at #59 (June 11)

The Brewster/Neeson/Brewster track from the classic “No Exit” LP only peaked at #25, but became an absolute Angels crowd favourite…

On this day in 1982, Joe Jackson released the single “Real Men” (June 11)

Joe Jackson challenges and questions what makes the 1982 version of a “real man” in this track that had only minor chart success in his native UK, but was a hit in Australia peaking at #6.
It also charted at #15 in the Netherlands.

With the hype of the “Look Sharp” LP in the rear vision mirror, Jackson showed he was still capable of churning out some classic songs from his new record “Night and Day”, while turning his introspective sociological musical microscope on us all....

Exactly forty years ago, on this day in 1983, the Elton John LP “Too Low For Zero” debuted on the US Billboard 200 Albums Chart at #160 (June 11)

For the first time since the LP “Blue Moves” in 1976, all lyrics on this one were written by Bernie Taupin, and Elton also reunited with the core of his backing band of the early 1970s: Dee Murray, Nigel Olsson and Davey Johnstone as well as Ray Cooper, Kiki Dee and Skaila Kanga.

It proved a recipe for success, because after some lean years commercially, “Too Low For Zero” became Elton’s second best selling album of the 1980s, and produced several hit songs, including “I’m Still Standing”, “I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues”, and “Kiss the Bride”.

On this day in 1966, The Beatles single “Paperback Writer” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #28 (June 11)

It was their 10th consecutive #1 in the UK, and also topped singles charts in the US, Ireland, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, the Netherlands and Norway.

Paul McCartney wrote this after helping some friends, including John Dunbar, set up the Indica Bookshop (in the basement was the Indica Gallery, where John Lennon eventually met Yoko Ono), in January of 1966.
Paul was the first customer of the shop.

McCartney said in 1966: "Years ago, my Auntie Lil said to me, 'Why do you always write songs about love all the time?
Can't you ever write about a horse or the summit conference or something interesting?'
So, I thought, 'All right, Auntie Lil.'"

McCarney then went ahead and penned the Beatles first #1 song that was NOT about love!

On this day in 1982, The Clash released the single “Rock The Casbah” (June 11)

Taken from the “Combat Rock” LP, “Rock The Casbah” gave The Clash their only US top 10 hit peaking at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, and charted highest in Australia where it got to #3, and #4 in New Zealand.

The music was written by drummer Topper Headon who also played drums, piano and bass on the track.
Headon also wrote the original lyrics to the song, which weren’t actually used in the recording.
After hearing Headon's music in the studio, Strummer went into the studio's toilets and wrote lyrics to match the song's melody.

In an interview, singer Joe Strummer claimed that "the real genius of 'Rock The Casbah' is Topper. He banged down the drum track. Then ran over to the piano and then the bass."

The sad irony about the song is that Headon wrote it musically, but had been fired from the group because of drug problems by the time the song became an enormous hit in the US.

Indeed, in the music video for the song, its original Clash drummer Terry Chimes at the kit (he had returned to replace Headon temporarily).

2023 Season Predictions

Baseball is over and we are fully into downtime so what better time to start a predictions thread.

I’m actually pretty high on the Tigers this year. I expect Cade to make a big jump and I think Riley’s offense will be a perfect fit for him. Two-headed monster at RB with Shipley and Mafah might be our best since Spiller & Davis. I’m not as down on the WRs as most as I think Tonio proved to be a huge weapon in year one and a healthy Beaux is also proven. Briningstool should thrive in the new offense. If we can get production from some Combo of Spector/Randall/Turner I think we can be very explosive. OL expect Miller to make a jump in his second year and lock down LT. Parks and Putnam are steady and I think one of Tate/Tucker/Mayes can lock down the other guard and the others will be valuable backups. Hoping Leigh takes RT (or left?) by the horns and becomes what we all hoped he could.

On defense, I think XT finally puts a whole season together a la Bowers final year. He’s motivated and worked so hard to not let it slip away. Mascoll is at least a veteran contributor. Woods makes an instant impact and the DT rotation of Davis/Ruke/Tre/Page/etc is scary. LB corps of Carter, Trotter and Woodaz is likely our most athletic ever and could be special. DBs have a good mix of young talent and savvy vets with Jones/Wiggins/Pride/Lukas at corner and Mukuba/Mickens/Phillips/Venables/Covil at safety.
Need to find consistency at P/K and stay healthy in key spots but this is easily a Top Ten and potentially Top 5 roster.

So how does it play out?

@ Duke - W 45-13 (Cade & Riley get the fanbase hyped up with some juice out of the gate)
CSU - W 70-7 (Riley convinced Dabo to leave the starters in longer than usual as we need to work out the kinks of the new Offense)
FAU - W 45-14 (crowd grows restless as we sleepwalk and let up some late scores looking ahead)
FSU - W 31-21 (top ten matchup in The Valley is tight for 3 quarters but Tigers pull away late with a defensive score)
@Cuse - W 35-7
Wake - W 42-20
@Miami - W 56-0 (a la the 2015 team we find our mojo in South Beach and the legitimacy starts to solidify)
@NCSU - W 31-24 (tough game on the road with some bad calls. Adversity)
ND - big game in DV again but they probably already have a couple losses to Ohio State & USC. Sticking with the 2015 theme it’s a monsoon and we win a barn burner 45-42. Everyone calls for Weslichek’s head
GT - W 56-0. Wes’ D starts to gel
UNC - W 49-3. It’s all clicking now.
@SCar - Dark Dabo descends on Columbia with terrible revenge. A thrashing the likes of which has never been seen. 64-17
ACCG - FSU again and this time we are clicking on all cylinders and erase any doubt. 42-14

Go to playoffs at 13-0. My gut tells me Ohio St or USC takes it all this year though. Finish 13-1 or 14-1.

2024 Pub presidential poll

Amazing that all Republicans care about is culture war. When did "Stop shoving your agenda down our throats" become: Please i want you to shove that down my throat. This is the ultimate first world problem list of grievances, 57% want to just make libs mad. What a well versed and strategic group of people. Truly we are building something special here.

Offense Analysis

Under Dabo, Clemson’s best offenses have typically had a QB that has thrown for about 3k and 30 TDs, a thousand yard rusher and usually a WR with 1k and double digit TDs and another pretty close. I’ve listed each season below. The outliers obviously being 2014, 2017, 2021 and 2022 (Stoudt, KB and DJU x 2). The years we haven’t had that you can see we lean more heavily on the run game either by committee or pushing the QB run (wild to see how much we ran DW4 the year Mike got hurt).
Anyway, the big question is - do you see Cade, Ship/Mafah, Beaux/Tonio being able to replicate something close to the 2011-13, 2015-16, 2018-20 years? Or other?
*Also, pretty remarkable how consistent the Tajh/Morris offenses were.

GOAT TEAM

Staying on the GOAT theme over the last few days, give me the best at each position. Admittedly I’m middle-aged so I probably don’t know the guys before the 80s as well. But I also think Clemson has had better teams lately so it probably skews towards later teams anyway.

QB - Lawrence (Watson close 2nd)
RB - ETN (Priester, Allen, Davis next)
APB - Spiller (have to put him in a different category as a return guy too)
WR - Sammy, Nuk, Tee (sentimental pick Renfrow. Gardner, Tuttle, Butler with honorable mentions).
TE - Bennie Cunningham (Clark & Allen next)
OL - Young Bostic, Bodine, Seegars, Hyatt (this one’s tough and hard to break out by position so tried to just go with top 5 IMO).
DE - Beasley & Ferrell (another really hard one but I put a premium on sacks at this position and these guys were the most efficient through their careers. Adams and Bowers have a say.)
DT - Fridge and Wilkins (Michael Dean, Sexy Dexy next)
LB - Judge Davis, Kirkland, Anthony Simmons (Isaiah Simmons, Keith Adams next)
CB - Woolford. #2 is really hard for me. I think I’ll go Mackenzie Alexander as he was absolutely a lockdown corner.
S - Kinard and Dawkins
K - Gardocki
P - Hatcher

Let the fight begin.

*****Good stuff from Ray-Ray McCloud

Ray-Ray was interviewed by Terrell Owens, host of “Getcha Popcorn Ready” on Fubo Sports.

Some Clemson-themed takeaways:

  • McCloud acknowledges that he always knew he was going to be done after three years at Clemson [7:23]
  • Reveals that he wishes he ended up staying for a fourth year [10:30].
  • Also details his rookie year with the Buffalo Bills, noting that his downfall came because of his mentality off the field and that he was often depressed, fighting with teammates and falling asleep in meetings due to a diagnosed sleeping disorder [10:50-12:00].

On his relationship with Dabo Swinney [8:50]:

Coach Swinney wanted me to stay [at Clemson for a fourth year]. And me and Coach Swinney are tight to this day. And what you see, that’s what he is. What he is showing on his interviews and what people see who really don’t get to meet him, that’s who he really is. If he don’t like you, he’s going to let you know, ‘I don’t like you.’…And for me, I had a whole spring where the whole team was calling him my dad. ‘Oh, your son is acting up Coach Swinney!’ And he was like, ‘Don’t worry about it. I’m not taking my foot out of his ass all spring.’ He used to tell people that and that is what really got me going. And the special teams part of the game [too]. Every day, with every rep I’d take, he would sit back there with me for all 10 reps, after practice and during practice. He’d say, ‘We’ve got two minutes left in the fourth quarter – change the game. Treat this [rep] like there is 85,000 people in the stadium right now. And every time I was back there – and even now when I practice – it’s rapid. He helped me get so much confidence and build a character back there, because you have to have a different ego back there.”

Comparison of this year and CML’s first

Ironically both 44-19, both ACC champs, both with a big star or two star already in place and a big time frosh recruited by the outgoing admin.

Differences, 2016 we started with a bang and tailed off to good but mortal. And finished only 16-14 in ACC. This year we started pretty weakly but of course an incredible finish. 20-10 ACC.

I’m sure we were all optimistic after 2016. But I am more optimistic now because I saw much more player development this year and actually some regression in 2016.
The portal is now in play, good or bad though it may be.

USMNT vs Mexico 10 pm est Thursday

Did not see a thread for this game so figured I would start one.

We have a pretty talented group in Vegas. Excited to see some of the new additions and hoping that between Pepi and Folarin we show some hope for the #9 spot.

I haven’t seen anything on Mexico’s squad but this will be a tough test. I’m thinking 2-1 US with a late goal to win.

Michael Jordan selling majority ownership stake in Charlotte Hornets

By: Steve Reed and Tim Reynolds - Associated Press

Michael Jordan is finalizing a deal to sell the majority share of the Charlotte Hornets, a move that will end his 13-year run overseeing the organization, the team announced Friday.

Jordan is selling to a group led by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall, the Hornets said. Plotkin has been a minority stakeholder in the Hornets since 2019. Schnall has been a minority owner of the Atlanta Hawks since 2015 and is in the process of selling his investment in that team.

It’s not clear how long the process of selling will take to finalize by the NBA’s Board of Governors. Jordan is expected to keep a stake in the Hornets, the team he bought in 2010 for about $275 million.

“In the same way that it’s wonderful that one of our greatest, Michael Jordan, could become the principal governor of a team, he has the absolute right to sell at the same time,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said earlier this month at the NBA Finals. “Values have gone up a lot since he bought that team, so that is his decision.”

The sale price was not immediately announced. The most recent sale of an NBA team came when Mat Ishbia bought the Phoenix Suns, a deal that when struck in December valued that franchise at $4 billion.

Other members of the new potential Hornets ownership group — pending the approval — are recording artist J. Cole, Dan Sundheim, Ian Loring, country music singer-songwriter Eric Church, and several local Charlotte investors including Amy Levine Dawson and Damian Mills.
