I observed this as interesting about Brownell

3 very well written and extremely interesting articles on Coach Brownell who has had, by all accounts, a terrific offseason and perhaps stands on the cusp of having the best Clemson BB team in the last 15 years. Clemson might have the player of the year in the ACC next year(when is the last time that happened?).

It’s a very exciting time for Clemson basketball.

Isn’t it?

My observation is this(using objective information but on posts that vary in topic):

Brownell Interview #1 = 42 posts
Brownell Interview #2 = 11 posts
Brownell Interview #3 = 10 posts

Billy Amick = 464 posts
Off-season Baseball = 1000+ posts
Mack Alexander issue from 8 years ago = 220 posts
Dismissal of Danny For from 34 years ago = 75 posts

Again, I fully realize this is somewhat comparing apples to oranges. However, as alluded to earlier, it seems like there should be more excitement around CU basketball right now than at anytime in the last couple decades perhaps.

Honest question: Is there a really high level of apathy about CU basketball? Is this something Clemson is willing to live with because CBB is a good ambassador who runs a clean program and is fairly competitive?

Full transparency about my fandom; I’m not a CBB fan, but I’m not in the camp that he needs to be fired every year either. I guess I consider myself more a curious observer that doesn’t really understand how he made it through the way last year ended. I’m genuinely a little perplexed at the situation, the factors that play into the AD’s decision to stay status quo after setting a bar that CBB failed to meet last year, and the apparent fan base malaise.

I mean honestly, the AD has to keep his finger on the pulse of fan excitement for the basketball program, and I’m not feeling it from my fellow fans right now with the exception of the few diehard, vocal folks we have on the board(and congrats to them for their perseverance - I’m being dead serious).

Thoughts?

Eddrick Houston update from Ohio St site

Honestly, seem pretty typical for a place like OSU. They assume they get everyone they want and seem shocked the recruits do not agree. They talk about him shutting down his recruitment but it seems like more of a hope than insider info.

They also only see Bama in their way, would be a shame if little ol’ Clemson was there the whole time

EDDRICK HOUSTON AND THE BAMA VISIT

Ohio State had a clear goal this weekend in the recruitment of
Eddrick Houston and that was to do everything in its power to show him and his family that there's no reason for them to make his planned official visit to Alabama over the June 23 weekend.

The Buckeyes have been well-positioned in this recruitment for months and, after 48 hours with Larry Johnson and the rest of the staff, they believed they'd be able to show him a plan on and off the field that would separate them from the pack.

Things can change in recruiting—and almost always do—but the elephant in the room may not be in the room any longer. Nick Saban has a way of getting what he wants though so the conversations over the next few days will be interesting. If there's not a quick decision or announcement from Eddrick Houston it won't be a surprise if that official visit happens as planned. Houston has had a mid-August decision date set and because of that there's no hurry to cancel other visits but for Ohio State's purposes it'd be helpful to see a five-star player like Eddrick Houston ready to shut things down earlier.

*****What we know on Billy Amick

What we know on Billy Amick

Did some asking around on this, and here's what we've gathered from multiple contacts:

This came out of the blue to Clemson and Erik Bakich on Tuesday when Billy Amick informed Bakich he's leaving.

Bakich has traveled to the Cape, where Amick is playing for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks.

The hope of course on Clemson's end is that Bakich can talk with Amick, his father and the agent who's involved.

But at last check (meaning this afternoon), the Amick camp was not responding to Bakich.

So at this point the big question is whether a conversation can even get off the ground.

There's of course a lot of sentiment from Clemson's side that Amick's agent instigated the whole thing, and that surely there's a deal already in place for Amick somewhere else.

But we talked with another contact who's not at Clemson, but who is pretty plugged into the situation, who said the decision was 100-percent from the player and his father, and that "I can 100-percent promise you there's no deal in place" elsewhere.

We'll let you know when we hear more on this.

Time is now for the Pac-12 to poach San Diego State

The time is now for the Pac-12 to poach San Diego State

By: Dan Wetzel - Yahoo! Sports

The weather has always been perfect. The city is big enough. The location — along the cliffs and beaches and mesas of Southern California — has always been desirable.

Yet across the decades San Diego State has sat outside the power structure of major college athletics, this potential gem covered up by administrative indifference, fan apathy, academic snobbery or, in its own odd way, a remote location that made only the Pac-12 conference a viable league.

How major college conferences could have programs in Starkville or Lubbock or Pullman — but not San Diego — is part of the uniqueness of the pursuit.

It also seems destined to end. And soon.

San Diego State, currently a member of the mid-major Mountain West Conference, is in the Final Four of the men's NCAA tournament.

It shouldn’t take a great run of basketball under head coach Brian Dutcher to finally push the Aztecs into a major conference, but sometimes this is how it works. With victory comes attention and with attention comes appreciation.

For decades SDSU has wanted to join the Pac-12, but the Pac-12 has never been interested. The conference could cite poor facilities and/or meager fan support.

One theory was that UC-Berkeley and UCLA didn’t want to associate with a school from the Cal State system. Another was that USC and UCLA had no interest in sharing the vast Southern California recruiting market.

“My own personal belief is the Pac-12 would not ask us in with UCLA and USC because that would put us on equal footing and we would be too great a competitor to let in,” Dutcher said.

Well, USC and UCLA are leaving for the Big Ten in 2024, which means the Pac-12 is without a foothold in the second-most populous region of the country. San Diego may not be L.A., but SDSU is the only viable option. And if the Pac-12 doesn’t jump now and offer an invitation, then the aggressive Big 12 — eager to establish itself as a coast-to-coast conference — just might.

All of which means the Aztecs' Final Four run comes at the perfect time.

The university has invested mightily in facilities — both on its Mission Valley campus and in the construction of a new 35,000-seat football/pro soccer stadium just a few miles away.

A group of donors and supporters — “Friends of SDSU” — helped shepherd the deal through a complicated political and public referendum process and then got construction completed ahead of schedule, which is simply unheard of in San Diego.

Everything is in place except the still lagging connection between school and city. Say what you will about, say, the aforementioned Lubbock, but it is Texas Tech country.

SDSU lacks neither for students — over 28,000 full-time undergrads — nor alumni at 400,000-plus. The challenge has been giving them a reason to show it, to wear the gear, to attend a game, to feel that pride that success in athletics can generate.

A Final Four is the kind of bandwagon that builds, often in lasting ways.

SDSU can be San Diego’s team, especially since there is no NBA or NFL franchise.

“We have the greatest environment in the world because San Diego is the ninth-largest city in the country, and we have one pro team in town … the [MLB] San Diego Padres,” Dutcher said. “So the pro basketball team of San Diego is the San Diego State Aztecs, so we get corporate seats sold. The city supports us. We are the basketball team of the city, and we are the football team of the city.”

Attendance, especially for football, still needs work, but it should be aided by the hoops team awakening the Aztec masses. So, too, would bringing in more brand-name opponents, either from the Pac-12 or Big 12.

The Pac-12 will soon have just 10 members and is working out a media rights deal for the future. Adding two teams would increase the inventory of games it could sell. SDSU may not help generate more media rights dollars, the way big flagship state universities can, but it also isn’t a net negative. There really aren’t any downsides at this point.

If nothing else, it would allow for everyone else to play, and recruit, in an important part of the country, let alone the West.

Maybe more than anything, there is the threat that if the Pac-12 doesn’t act, the Big 12 will. The Big 12 is open about its desire to get Pac-12 schools Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah to jump ship and help form a 16-team conference. So far, that hasn’t happened and those so-called “corner schools” have expressed loyalty to the Pac-12.

If that isn’t possible, would the Big 12 counter by entering California via SDSU and, perhaps, Fresno State? Saul Jimenez-Sandoval, the president of Fresno State, recently confirmed Big 12 interest in the school while lobbying for an infrastructure spending deal similar to what SDSU got done. Fresno may not be San Diego, but its metropolitan region has a million residents, many of whom connect with the school. Moreover, agricultural ethos fits well with a league that is home to many campuses on the Great Plains.

No one knows what’s coming, but that alone should be the threat to get the Pac-12 to act. SDSU has made the moves in recent years to become increasingly attractive. Now a trip to the Final Four confirms the potential of its teams while firing up alums and fans.

“I would think we would be desirable for the Pac-12, the Big 12, a lot of conferences,” Dutcher said.

He’s correct. The question now is which one offers first.

Mickey Plyler

I listened to the interview this morning and he was talking to Amicks dad like they were buddies.

I wish I could get his thoughts on this guy going on the radio show knowing his son was turning his back on the program by not answering the phone calls.

I find it really funny this guy was talking about military and serving yet they don’t have the decency to respond and or let their feelings known to the coaches.

I don’t care that he’s leaving if he says coach here is why I want to leave, what are your thoughts. Ok we can’t get on the same page I need to go somewhere else

But being a coward is just more of the same with our current society

OT: Swallowing my pride and asking for help

Hey y’all, these last couple of weeks have been tough. I lost my job with no warning or cause. I’m looking into legal action but that’s obviously more long term. The only two things I have that have any real value are my bedroom furniture and my mom’s diamond ring. I’ve listed my bedroom furniture for sale everywhere but haven’t gotten any bites yet. The ring is the only thing I have left from my mom (she passed away from breast cancer in 2018) so I can’t bring myself to sell it. I already have a couple of job possibilities lined up and they both look like slam dunks but I need to get by for the next month until money starts coming in again. I hate to ask as I’m a proud guy but, right now, I’m also a desperate guy. So, I’m asking for 3 things:

1. Please pray for the situation and for the new job opportunities.

2. If you are in a position to help out financially, I’d ask you to consider helping. Any amount helps. I have Venmo, PayPal, and Cash App and am happy to share that information with anyone who would like to donate.

3. If you are in the Upstate of SC and have any work that I can do this coming week to earn some cash, please let me know. I’ll do whatever is necessary to dig myself out of this unexpected hole.

Again, I hate to ask. And, yes, I know I asked one other time when I caught Covid. I know that I need to be better about building an emergency fund and I have a plan for that now as well. If anyone has any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask here, DM me, or you can call/text me at (864) 385-5438. And I will absolutely pay it forward once I’m back on my feet. Thanks y’all and God bless!
