Reverse QB recruiting

Normally the QB is the kingpin of the class and commits early to attract other talent, particularly at WR.

Could we see that work in reverse this cycle, especially if Riley's offense lights it up out of the gate this Fall?

Potentially having some combo of Ezioumume, Wesco, Moore, Staley, Taylor, Matthews, Coleman, and Betancur on board would certainly be quite enticing for an elite arm.

Tuesday update on a major target

As you presumably saw, our Monday Insider featured two Tigerillustrated.com projections.

We closed the edition with the shocker, bringing to light Clemson's profound move with Midlothian (Texas) four-star receiver Bryant Wesco.

Wesco (6-2, 175), ranked No. 165 nationally by Rivals.com, went on an official visit to USC two weeks ago.

LSU has been scheduled for this weekend, TCU the next, and Tennessee has reservation for the last weekend this month.

We would not have issued that projection if we believed those official visits had a reasonable chance of happening.

The first Tiger Illustrated projection, Jefferson (Ga.) high-four star linebacker Sammy Brown, announced his destination Monday evening.

Wesco has yet to divulge any change in status.

But if BBQ in Georgia was on our mental menu yesterday, then Texas brisket is in the order queue today if everything continues proceeding as planned.

We can tell you other coaching staffs are now being informed of Wesco's direction.

A reminder we also first framed Clemson yesterday as the new heavy favorite to score Tampa (Fla.) Catholic four-star receiver Terrance "TJ" Moore, too.

Clemson's still got it.

Just had an interesting convo with a family member.

I have a family member that’s pretty plugged into the program and once he retires from the school, he has an opportunity to join the football staff in some capacity. Anyways

Just some bullets points

Wes Goodwin: everything we have read on here was echoed but also that the defensive players love him. He has a way in breaking down situations and where/why a player does what he does that it makes it so simple for them.

Kyle Richardson: Wouldn’t be shocked if he isn’t OC or Co-OC. Said he has the same ability as Wes as far as making things seem simple. Made a couple comments that made it seem like Dabo told the coaches who were leaving that Kyle and Goodwin were off limits to take

The U.S. Capitol Police issued an apology after they say they “mistakenly” labeled a recent performance of the National Anthem by South Carolina kids

These insurrectionists need to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

I am now wondering if Biden and Kamala had to go into the Bunker based on the threat the children represented to National Security

Comments as to why in Hell are people so stupid as to make a group of children out as an illegal demonstration singing of National Unity

Giving Dabo Props/Crow Eating Session

I’m here to give Dabo credit where it’s due on a decision he made that I (and several of you) didn’t understand at the time. Hindsight is 20/20, that’s for sure.

When Dabo made the executive decision to offer Sammy Brown and HBS early, a lot of us questioned the methodology. Why have such a firm stance on something and then break it? And why specifically for these guys?

At the time, before we found out that he was always going to go to the Gamecocks and would eventually actively recruit against us, I was wondering why this special exception wasn’t given to Kam Pringle…the apple of our OL recruiting eye at the time at our biggest position of need.

Well played Dabo. You read the room, knew where and when to strike, and executed flawlessly. I’ll have my crow rare with salt and pepper, please.

Recruiting Sites Grievance

Forgive me for my soap box moment, but.... Why in the world do all the recruiting sites give this specifically awful Clemson hat to recruits at their functions? Its typically purple and I have seen it used on almost every recruiting site. Recently used with another site with several recruits. Someone has to end this madness and buy them a new hat. (Also did Zephyr go out of business?)

**** Sammy Brown

This is a morning note from Rivals.com national analyst John Garcia.

Tennessee just hosted Brown for his official visit and impressed, but was it enough to close the gap with in-state Georgia and fellow longtime contender Clemson? We’re not sure, and we know this race is set to end sooner than perhaps any other elite recruit on this list. Upcoming trips to the other four programs could put a dent into the race for this two-way, multi-sport star, but it could be an uphill climb for the programs furthest from Jefferson, Ga.

Brown’s recruitment has long been viewed as a heavyweight battle, and we don’t see Kirby Smart losing much of these within state lines – particularly on defense. Clemson appears right there, and Dabo Swinney’s program will host Brown this weekend, so if there is a visit to watch it is the next one. Ohio State and Oklahoma have hung around ahead of their own visits, but it’s the next two that we see determining this race.

Brown visits Athens the weekend of June 9, one week after his time in Death Valley. Those two programs also happen to be where he is most familiar, which is a big deal for a long-coveted, well-traveled talent like the linebacker. -- John Garcia

ADDITIONAL TUESDAY RECRUITING NUGGETS
By: Adam Gorney (National Recruiting Director) - Rivals.com

The battle for Gipson has come down to Clemson and Texas in many ways, and now one team has taken the lead in his recruitment. The four-star safety from Lancaster, Texas, told me that after his weekend visit to Clemson that the Tigers are now No. 1 on his list and they’re the team to beat.

“Clemson is just different all around,” Gipson said. “It’s just special, really just talking to me about long-term goals and not short-term goals.”

Georgia is considered to have the edge in Bolden’s recruitment but Clemson is doing everything possible to stay in the race, basically with the Bulldogs and Ohio State. The five-star from Buford, Ga., rated his visit to Clemson over the weekend an A-plus. He said the culture is “next to none” and what could be a big selling point for the Tigers is that he could be a day one starter there. If Clemson could go into the state of Georgia and not only get Sammy Brown but Bolden, too? That would be a huge statement.

When asked if Tennessee had the edge in Matthews’ recruitment, the five-star said “yes and no,” meaning that the Volunteers have definitely impressed him a ton but he’s going through all his official visits before making a final decision. And Clemson definitely impressed the Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview standout. He said the Tigers are “truly different” and that Clemson “could be a place that I can call home.” From the coaches and how they handle things on and off field, it made a big impression on Matthews over the weekend.

Clemson is now clearly the team to beat for the four-star receiver from Tampa (Fla.) Catholic as his weekend visit went great and the coaching staff showed him love the entire time and made it clear how much they wanted him in this recruiting class. It would be a shocker at this point if Moore ended up elsewhere.

Texas is the odds-on favorite to land the four-star offensive tackle from Copperas Cove, Texas, but Georgia and Michigan are also significant standouts in his recruitment and a weekend visit to Clemson does have Uini thinking more. What Uini loved is that he thought the Clemson coaches, staff and community are all “genuine,” and that made a big impression throughout the weekend - and could move the Tigers up quickly.
