I hate to look past Charlotte

But we gotta throw our mid week guys against them and try to our score them.

They should be way down on pitchers also and there isn’t any reason we aren’t way better than them

Our guys have to be extremely excited to get back out there after last nights awesome game.

They know their season isn’t over and they want more of what last night was like.

We about to roll today boys, get ready for Monday showdown

**** Corian Gipson & Terrance Moore

A quick note on both four-star Clemson targets (DB) Corian Gipson and (WR) Terrance Moore from Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney this morning:

"Texas has long been considered the front-runner for the four-star safety from Lancaster, Texas and the Longhorns could still hang on for his commitment but the word is that Clemson is now a real contender after his recent visit there.

"From the family-oriented program to coach Dabo Swinney being big on faith, Gipson was definitely impressed by the trip and now the Tigers could be the quiet frontrunner to watch."

"Clemson was the top program for the four-star receiver from Tampa (Fla.) Tampa Catholic but after a visit to Florida the word is now the Gators have taken over the top spot.

"The facilities and the coaching staff stood out the most in Gainesville and that’s why Florida has jumped to the top spot with Clemson and Penn State in that top group. Visits to Tennessee and Georgia coming up soon should be watched.

“Something about [Florida] just felt right,” Moore said.

Additional recruiting nuggets today ...

Additional recruiting nuggets today in a note from Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney.
(some overlap here from Paul's reporting last week but wanted to post here nonetheless):

Clemson is now “really high” on Davis’ list after getting offered in recent days and it was one he was waiting on as the Tigers now have the full attention of the 2025 defensive end from Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley. There are many other contenders early on with Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame, North Carolina and others involved with Davis, the former teammate of UNC defensive tackle Travis Shaw, a former five-star.

A new Clemson offer is huge for the 2025 four-star offensive guard from Nashville (Tenn.) Lipscomb Academy as it was his dream school and the Tigers are now high in his recruitment. Clemson now joins Georgia, South Carolina, Miami and LSU as the early favorites.

After working out at Clemson on Thursday, the Tigers are “at the top of the top” for the 2025 four-star from Enterprise, Ala., especially since he had such a great time on campus.

Listed as a safety currently, Winters is expected to move to linebacker over the long term as Oklahoma, Auburn and LSU are the others standing out at this point.

Clemson has always been a school Faulk liked a lot and the Tigers are now even more on the radar as they offered following his workout at camp late last week. It could be a school to watch but Auburn has to be considered the team to beat right now since his brother, Keldric, flipped from Florida State to those Tigers late in the recruiting process. Georgia, Florida and others remain on the radar, too.

Angel Campos is on the take. Hear me out

Angel Campos is the umpire that tossed Cam tonight. Everyone agreed it was a joke and the dude is getting destroyed on social media.

Angel Campos is known for being a shit umpire and was fired by MLB in 2014. He now does west coast college games. During his short stint in MLB, he was known for tossing out players over nothing and got regularly criticized for it. Angels fans even did a blog post suggesting he was fixing games.

But you want to know the odd thing about Angel Campos?

He was home plate umpire in the 2021 Knoxville regional and called the Liberty vs Tennessee game. Angel Campos ejected the Liberty pitching coach in the 7th inning. He then ejected the Liberty head coach in the 8th inning.
Tennessee went on to win the game.

Something is up with this guy. Neff, I know you are on the board. Look into this

Penn

Supposedly hit the portal for a bunch of D1 transfers.
Interestingly since they (like all the Ivy League) don’t give athletic scholarships.

It seems unlikely they would facilitate NIL even though they couldn’t prohibit it and prolly not a market.

But all the guys will be Ivy League alumni even if no degree is added!

FRIDAY PETER WOODS UPDATE
By: Paul Strelow

Not out of the woods yet, we first teased exactly one month ago today.

But almost there.

It's decision day for Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson four-star defensive lineman Peter Woods, whom we have long cast as arguably the biggest fish on the Clemson recruiting board.

Woods (6-2, 265), ranked No. 57 nationally by Rivals.com, is not only a five-star talent, in this observer's standing estimation.

But his value and profile are magnified by his presence in the Alabama Crimson Tide's back yard -- a target at the top of the board for Bama.

So a guy everyone truly wanted, but also with a much greater degree of difficulty in attaining if you're not the Tide.

Clemson and Bama are two of his four stated finalists, joined by Florida and Jackson State.

Woods has been publicly pegged as a foregone conclusion to the Tide for the majority of his recruitment.

His high school's other big-name prospects -- Taulia Tagovailoa and last year's mutual Clemson target, defensive end Jeremiah Alexander -- have all matriculated to Alabama. The Tide typically get the in-state prospects Nick Saban wants. Moreover, Woods is known to have grown up a Bama fan amid a pro-Tide family.

Yet as we framed for subscribers last month, when faith and family are priorities in a recruitment, Clemson has a real chance.

Two years ago, the Tigers attracted Woods and his parents to the Dabo Swinney Camp to begin their potential courtship. As we frequently wrote, we considered Clemson to be Bama's greatest threat for Woods on culture and relationships.

Todd Bates played a huge hand in getting the Tigers in the competition. Then the lead recruiter torch passed to new defensive tackles coach Nick Eason, who had already been chasing Woods for Auburn.

Eason's recruiting body of work on Clemson's behalf has already spoken for itself. It might be about to shout for those in the back who still haven't heard.

We know that Swinney has also been heavily involved personally in this pursuit.

Woods was a headliner for the Tigers' major official visit weekend to kick off June, and let's just say our information indicated the weekend could not have gone better from Clemson's standpoint.

But a month is a long time to go when someone with Bama's muscle and shadow looms over the shoulder.

Top 60 recruit Peter Woods of Alabaster (Ala.) has offered no hints about his college choice as his announcement draws closer.

Woods was a no-show for his Florida official visit and didn't wind up arranging one with Bates and Oklahoma.

Then the last weekend in June, Woods did travel to Tuscaloosa but it didn't amount to a recruiting visit with Tide coaches involved, another telling sign.

We informed readers in our June 24 mailbag that Bama was starting to figure out the increased threat Clemson presented.

In today's climate, we would simply tell you that can yield aggressive attempts to persuade a prospect to enhance his earnings potential.

Based on our returns the last 24 hours, such an approach has only strengthened Clemson's cause.

Woods, whom we'll finally unveil as a projection to Clemson by Tigerillustrated.com, will announce his decision in a school ceremony set to begin at 7 p.m.

His college choice isn't expected to be revealed for 45 minutes to an hour, which is an awful long time for build-up.

But what a celebration and crescendo it could turn out to be.

***** A major Sunday official visit update *****

As you know, our intent has been to package most of our returns from the official visit weekend for our Monday Insider.

But we are going to make an exception now here, as we made in his recruitment.

Jefferson (Ga.) four-star linebacker Sammy Brown has arguably been the most popular prospect for discussion on TI this class.

Brown (6-2, 220), ranked No. 23 nationally by Rivals.com, drew the first offer from Dabo Swinney for the 2024 class ... and several months earlier than is Swinney's standard.

We have framed this for many months as a UGA and Clemson battle. And even after all the publicity that came from UGA sending a bunch of high-profile prospects to throw with him at his school a week ago, we cautioned against treating all the coverage as meaning the Dawgs were the likely choice.

He liked UGA. But he liked Clemson too, and for different reasons ... reasons, we underlined, that would be on display at full dosage this weekend to him and his parents for the official visit weekend.

Brown, now a projection to Clemson by Tigerillustrated.com, has remaining official visits lined up with UGA, Oklahoma and Tennessee -- with Athens scheduled for this next weekend.

Last year, Peter Woods had official visits arranged ... until he didn't.

As we wrote last week, trust in Swinney to do Swinney things.

Clemson pitching

Was WAY better than expected this season but ...

We gave up entirely too many home runs.

Many times this year I said, "it felt like we pitched really well EXCEPT for the homers".

@crope1 @bjohnson32 @Gap2Gap @Orangefanta @son_of_beef

Do you guys think Belanger, based on what had to work with, focused heavily on throwing a lot of fastballs for strikes?

It makes sense and seems to match what was seen as well as the measurable stats. Our staff K:BB ratio was quite good and certainly better than most would have guessed pre-season I'd say.

The last two games show how devastating a college pitcher can be with one great breaking pitch if they can consistently locate it. But that's a raw talent thing and we need some dudes.

Side note: It also appears Belanger has a knack for developing lefties in particular (he did the same at FSU).

I've got a feeling B.J. Bailey and Rocco Reid may surprise some people next year as they have ability and Belanger looked to be harnessing that later in the year.
