Prosecutors drop charges against Alec Baldwin after questions over gun misfire​

New Mexico prosecutors have dropped criminal charges against actor Alec Baldwin in the “Rust” shooting tragedy, a dramatic reversal that comes after numerous missteps by prosecutors, according to three people familiar with the matter who were not authorized to comment.

The stunning development comes after prosecutors received new information into the case — that the gun that Baldwin used had been modified before being delivered to the low-budget western in October 2021, the sources said.



The replica of the vintage weapon — a Colt 45 revolver — had been fitted with a new trigger, making it possible for it to misfire, as Baldwin has said, according to the sources.

Prosecutors are reserving the right to eventually charge Baldwin with a lesser charge, but they felt they needed time to investigate the new information to make sure that charges were even warranted, one of the sources said.

Baldwin has long maintained that he did not pull the trigger on the fateful day when cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot. The film’s director Joel Souza was also wounded.

The decision to drop the involuntary manslaughter charges comes just a few weeks after a new special prosecutor took over the case when the district attorney stepped down. The decision was made because the new special prosecutors were racing toward a May 3 deadline for a preliminary hearing to see whether prosecutors had sufficient evidence to go forward.

“We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin, and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident,” Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, attorneys for Baldwin, said in a statement, which was first reported by ABC News..

Prosecutors declined to comment.

Baldwin, 65, was charged in late January with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the October 2021 shooting death of Hutchins. The film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, was also charged.

But since the high-profile charges were announced by prosecutors in Santa Fe, the case against Baldwin has been crumbling due to a variety of problems with the investigation.

Two months ago, New Mexico prosecutors downgraded felony penalties against Baldwin and Gutierrez Reed, removing the threat that either could spend years in prison.

Baldwin and Gutierrez Reed were charged last month with two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the Oct. 21, 2021, shooting on the movie’s set south of Santa Fe.

Gutierrez Reed — who loaded the gun with a live bullet — is still facing the felony charges, the sources said.

The most serious charge included a “firearm enhancement” penalty that carried a maximum five years in prison, if convicted.

The “Rust” production was set to resume filming at Yellowstone Film Ranch in Montana on Thursday.

“The production will continue to utilize union crew members and will bar any use of working weapons and any form of ammunition,” said Melina Spadone, attorney for Rust Movie Productions. “ Live ammunition is — and always was — prohibited on set.”

The day before Thanksgiving, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, along with Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry, deposed Anthony Fauci (head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases [NIAID]) at the National Institutes for Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported in May that the Missouri and Louisiana Attorneys General filed a lawsuit (Missouri v. Biden) against the Biden Administration, including Joe Biden himself, Anthony Fauci, the Department of Homeland Security and nearly a dozen federal agencies and Secretaries.
The suit alleges a massive coordinated effort by the Deep State, the permanent administrative state, to work with Big Tech to censor and manipulate Americans – from average citizens to news outlets – on issues including the Hunter Biden Laptop from Hell, 2020 Election Integrity, COVID-19 origin and extent skepticism, COVID-19 vaccine skepticism, among other issues.

As Gateway Pundit has previously written, the Attorneys General, along with Gateway Pundit’s Jim Hoft and several other individuals sued the Biden Administration – including Anthony Fauci – for censoring speech surrounding COVID-19, among a large number of other topics.

Gateway Pundit’s Jim Hoft and attorney John Burns were present at the deposition and witnessed the octogenarian squirm, stall, and lie for seven hours.
While the deposition uncovered no smoking guns, the sheer volume of things Fauci “couldn’t recall” or “couldn’t remember,” along with his obvious attempts at providing misleading and deceptive responses, collectively damned his testimony.
No reasonable observer could find his testimony to be credible. Simply put: he lied even when the truth would have made a better story.
Here are some observations and highlights from the Fauci deposition that we reported on earlier:
** Fauci claimed that he had no knowledge that his communications team did not coordinate with social media companies to stop “misinformation and disinformation” until he was forced to admit that he actually did know of certain instances of coordination.
** Fauci continued to push the now-debunked assertion that COVID-19 was a naturally occurring virus.
** Fauci said disinformation and misinformation (information he disagrees with) puts lives at risk.
** Fauci refused to define “gain of function” research saying it was too broad of a term to define.
** Fauci’s other method of lying was simply to pretend that he didn’t understand something, and then hope the lawyer asking the question wouldn’t be able to catch him in the lie. For example, he very obviously lied at one point when he claimed he didn’t know what Meta (parent company of Facebook) was, until he was forced to admit that he did, in fact, know what Meta was.
** Another Fauci tactic: when forced to admit he had made a communication or reviewed a key record at a key time, or knew or worked with a key individual, he would try and downplay each negative fact by (1) downplaying the significance of the communication, (2) suggest that while he reviewed the key record, he didn’t really read it carefully, or (3) with false humility suggest that he was not an expert in X field and so did not fully understand the scientific study at issue, or (4) claim that, while he did “know” said individual, he doesn’t really know them that well because he meets so many doctors and scientists as part of his job.
** Other Fauci deceit tactics: throwing subordinates under the bus. Fauci is a famous survivor among bureaucrats. One way he has survived this long is by only taking credit for wins and pawning off losses on hapless subordinates. This trend continued in his deposition, in which he brazenly argued that, while he is the head of the NIAID and its $6 billion dollar budget, he repeatedly didn’t have any knowledge about what his immediate direct reports were doing right under his nose. Fauci supports accountability, so long as he has a subordinate to sacrifice.
** Fauci argued that Hydroxychloroquine was “dangerous” and had “toxic” side effects. This is absurd, because HCQ is one of the safest medicines known to man, but also because the COVID “vaccine” has killed tens of thousands of people and injured hundreds of thousands more. Similarly, Fauci’s bogus medical cure, Remdesivir, has almost no positive effect in treating COVID, yet it’s also horribly toxic.
** Fauci claimed HCQ was ineffective in treating COVID, but couldn’t cite a single study to support his claim. Fauci also rejected the list of 371 studies on HCQ and its effectiveness in treating the disease when he was presented with the list.

ESPN to begin layoffs early next week as part of Disney cost cuts​

ESPN will begin layoffs early next week as part of parent company Disney’s cost cutting efforts, according to people familiar with the matter.

Cuts will include some on-air talent and management, said the people, who asked not to be named because the discussions are private. The number of layoffs at ESPN is unclear and the decision process is still fluid.

An ESPN spokesperson declined to comment.

Disney is eliminating 7,000 jobs in three rounds, with the second round happening next week, said the people. The company will also lay off about 15% of the staff in its entertainment division next week, Bloomberg reported this week.

Disney’s first round of cuts occurred last month and included its metaverse strategies unit and part of its Beijing office.

Disney is slashing costs under CEO Bob Iger as it tries to boost free cash flow as streaming losses persist. ESPN is interested in renewing a contract with the National Basketball Association and will likely have to pay a significant premium on the $1.4 billion per year rights fee it already pays the league. Renewal discussions with the NBA are already taking place, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Disney said earlier this year it plans to cut $5.5 billion in costs, including $3 billion in content spending.

ESPN laid off about 300 employees in 2020.

Disney reorganized earlier this year, and ESPN will release its financials as its own division for the first time. The change will offer a clearer window into ESPN’s business.

Disney is set to report earnings on May 10.

Yes, Little Rock (Ark.) Christian four-star quarterback Walker White is set to announce his college choice Friday afternoon.

Wasn't quite supposed to be released yet, but that happens.

Would not be surprised to see White release a top three later today featuring Clemson, Baylor and Auburn.

White is coming off a weekend at Clemson's elite junior day, having visited Auburn and Baylor within the previous two weeks as well. His whole family is former Arkansas athletes, but sense from the get-go has been that White was likely headed in a different direction.

As we wrote in the Monday Insider, sentiment inside the Clemson football offices has held that they got the QB who was the right fit coming in for the elite junior day.

The ACC ranked 1st in both the % of 5* and 4* drafted and 2nd in the % of 3* drafted.

Ok, did I miss something. Is it infiltration of our education system by Yankees? When did it become normal to say "year over year" instead of "year after year". We obviously got the news recently that Tracy Johnson passed away back on Good Friday. He was an absolute beast of a fullback in his time here under Danny and really made a devastating combo with some of our other feature backs like Terry Allen. Tracy led the ACC in rushing TDs in 1987 and still holds the Clemson mark for most career knockdown blocks. He had a big day with 3 TDs in the Citrus Bowl when Danny put a whooping on Joe Pa. Gone far too soon, but I'll always remember him as part of that monster fullback lineage we had during the Danny Ford era of Clemson Football. In his spare time he liked to cook for the team and play chess. RIP Tracy.
