Anybody listening to Board meeting called to discuss campus climate?

There is no campus climate issue at Clemson until professors started spewing to students that there is one.

All this BS starts at the universities. Lib POS professors that can’t cope and make it in the real world so spreading their propaganda back on campuses. They have no people skills, no coping skills, no survival skills so have to play victim over and over again.

All I have ever heard from former players, especially since Dabo has been there, is that Clemson was the best 4 year experience of their lives. There is no issue on campus until some liberal tells them there is and some buy into it. How did they not see it during the 3-4 best years of their life while there?

I hear the same thing from all graduates too. Best 4 years of my life. “There really is something on those hills”. Yet, outsiders tell us we are wrong.

No disrespect intended, but it's the liberal professors who are responsible for former and current players voicing their misgivings about the names on buildings?

I didn’t listen to the meeting but I assume this is bigger than the football program. There was a handful of incoming and current students who made some racist social media posts, and I would imagine this is being discussed as well.

Glad times are changing along with this 19th century belief

I'm not saying climate change isn't real, because obviously we've had ice ages, etc. But, of course, we have to have a board meeting to discuss. Just don't think Clemson needs to concern themselves of that right now. It was a pretty mild spring this year.

We’ve gone from “There’s something in these hills” and “I love the place, Best times of my life” to a racist, bigoted institution of higher learning. Makes total sense. Buy the BS if you want.

You think the recent perspectives offered by former and current players, including Deshaun Watson, Aamir Simms and Mike Jones, are BS?

The left has a "death grip" on college campuses, that must change!! The way to the change isd through the purse strings! Any college accepting Federal funds must teach a course on Capitalism VS Socialism taught by certified Professors in capitalism. Let's get balance back in Education!

This is what I was thinking. Why does the University need ti worry about the global climate. Just keep as many trees as possible.

You understand that Clemson can still be a wonderful place and still have room for growth and change and address right? They aren't mutually exclusive.

This thread is great because there is a quarter of the people who think the meeting is about climate change. a quarter of the people think the meeting happened when it is tomorrow, and then i really don't understand what the other 50% are doing. This meeting is to discuss the names of buildings and the ongoing discussion about racial inequality in this country. No one is saying Clemson university is racist.

What you're not understanding is that those warm and cozy feelings "we" have for our university, are not shared by many people of color who have ties to the university. The "we" you're referring to isn't really a true "we", if that makes sense. Getting there is attainable, but there's work to be done. It's perspective...you're seeing the world from the seat you've always sat in. Change seats and you might see something very different. I love our university very much, and hope that my 3 young children grow to love it too and attend when they are that age where they can, but it's okay to recognize that there's room for change & improvement.

Maybe I've missed something, but everything I've seen from former Clemson players has been constructive as it relates to their 1) feelings about Clemson and 2) feelings about being educated in buildings that are named for people who'd have considered them property and, worse, enthusiastically advocated their lynching.

I cannot wrap my mind around the notion that they just need to shut up and play football/basketball. They have every right to be a part of the conversation.

Is this the same science that told me Corna was going to kill 2 million in California?

Amazing. ^ This guy thinks they are talking about "campus climate" as in global warming.

Agreed completely. That's what I was alluding to. I think they're a very important part of this conversation and this progress that we hope to see. I'm only saying that the view that many of us have of our university isn't necessarily the same view that many black students (current and former) have, and the things they are currently advocating for will be key steps in improving the culture at the university to where it's more inclusive and one that everyone can be proud of.

Absolutely! You made great points. Was just adding to them.

How can we be certain that these "Certified" professors aren't the same ones who can't cope and make it in the "real"world as mentioned above?? Who determines that???

What year are you at Clemson?

What year are you at Clemson?

1965-2020. Been at or around Clemson for 55 years. Have and have had family employed by Clemson Univ on the academic or athletic side for much longer than that. Have a child that is a rising senior this year and one that graduated in 2018 so I have a good feel for it.

Can it improve? What can’t. Is it some racially-charged environment? Far from it

Yes, some of them are.
And yes, I am a black man who attended Clemson from 1985 thru 1990. I love the place and many of the people there were highly influential in my life and there were many good people. Yet and still, I dealt with MANY racist incidents from students and racist attitudes from some professors. I love Clemson, but it’s hardly free from racism both structurally and on individual levels.

Other than Ben Tillman, who we all agree was a POS and should have no reference on campus, and possibly Calhoun, what other buildings are offending people? Was Thomas Clemson racist by today's standards? He married Calhoun's daughter, right? Are we changing the name of the school and the town?
