refusing to play until the university president steps down. Protesting racism on campus. Wow!

I think their entire offense.. all races have been in compliance with this all year.

From what I'm reading there is some real crazy stuff going on in Columbia, Missouri and the president isnt doing anything about it, hence the protest. Listen I think, just like the players at Oklahoma (last year?), that it's not only ok but right for kids on these teams to stand up for their beliefs. I get so frustrated with the whole "shut up and play, that's all you are here for" attitude people have. I would hope that if people on campus were mistreating others, our players would have the courage to all stand United against it. Stop this white and black bull crap and all stand together as freaking human beings against the idiocy that seems to keep cropping up everywhere.

Protest all you want... But don't think you get a free education and then get to go on strike...(or get to continue to have a free education, food etc) Even an American worker who goes on strike does not get paid by the company..

Almost as pathetic as Tahj Boyd and some of our other players taking that ridiculous pic to support Travon Martin.
Yeah those guys probably have a better understanding of the Travon Martin situation than you, I, and 95% of this board does.

Calling for the President to step down is a big step. Maybe he deserves this, I have no idea. Just hope he gets a fair shake and isn't just pushed out just to make this go away. These are young kids and sometimes they are quick to get behind something for the right reason and may not have all the facts. Again, maybe the President has this coming, I don't know. The best thing the school can do now is put everything out on the table. It's just to easy to have people removed or terminated anymore when racial issues come up just to avoid the backlash instead of getting all of the details together.

I have no idea what they are protesting but can the school pull their scholarship for refusing to play? Not picking a side as I don't know the story just curious.

I just read through a time line of the issues. It seems as if a few drunk knuckleheads have said some racist things on about three different occasions. There are also some students really upset that a statue of Thomas Jefferson is on campus. To address these concerns they sent a list of seven demands to the President, many of which were ridiculous. When their demands were not met they started having a bunch of protests and calling for his removal.

I'm all against racism but when the actions of a few result in a shakedown to get unreasonable demands I just can't get behind that.

Are you talking about the Boston Tea Party? Sorry, Are you talking about the Civil War? Sorry again, Are you talking about Civil Rights, No no your talking about American Emancipation or does that apply to just a few?

You take every post out of context. Terrible
Ok place it in proper context! Should these athletes be allowed to Peacefully Protest in your opinion or not? My opinion is This Is America, thus yes. Those are my context, just help me out.

Actually I did and I followed the trial very closely.
I'm sure you enjoyed the coverage FOX provided for you. FOX made Martin out to be a thug while CNN made him out to be a saint. The bottom line is that none of it should have ever happened.

I wasn't around in the 1960's.

I am 42 years old and I cannot ever remember race relations being this bad in this country. Things have just really begun to spin out of control over the last several years.
Don't think recruits won't notice our coach and president dancing with the players. That has to roll into an understanding that we don't operate that way here and we have an extremely diverse staff.

Nobody is condoning racism. But making ridiculous demands will not make those knuckleheads non racist. I would go as far as to say that the way this 1950 group is handing the situation will only make it worse. Why? Because it is offensive to white people to bend over backwards and cave to a shakedown. It is no different than Jesse Jackson protesting.

The best way to stamp out racism is for people to respect each other. Respect is not gained by shakedowns and that is all this is.

The coaching staff is standing WITH the team in their intent to "strike"

On one hand it seems interesting, on the other it probably at least partially self-preservation in the coaching profession.
