Anybody notice what's going down at Mizzou? Black players

I wasn't around in the 1960's.

I am 42 years old and I cannot ever remember race relations being this bad in this country. Things have just really begun to spin out of control over the last several years.
I think the 24 hour news coverage and social media, even more so, has made it seem that way. Everything is magnified times 100 nowadays, and it makes it feel worse than it actually is.

This is what " community organizers" do, they are actually community agitators that are shakedown artist. In my opinion, President Obama and his cronies have set race relations back, and the sad part is, I think that was their goal.

Mr. Ard, I am 57, grew up in Jim Crowe South, in riots, saw Black People hung, sat in back of the bus, still remember being unable to eat, sleep, walk beaches, look people in the eyes, spat on & racial epithets daily. Oh yes I have seen & experienced worst. Served 20 plus years in our military & was adversely affected for promotion because of my race.
Thank God I can say without prejudice "This Is The Greatest Country In The World", but we are not perfect & racism still exists!

I've read a lot about those days. I just can't make sense of it. I cannot understand why people don't make a better effort to get along. We're all human beings. We're all Americans.

I have no idea what is going on over there, but I do know that being a white southern male that is proud of his heritage has not been easy lately either. Oh wait, I'm just supposed to deal with it and worry about everyone else. My apologies.

Also, I was raised to treat everyone equal and I have raised my son to do the same. IMBlessed, I can't even imagine having to endure all of what you just posted. I have never understood hate like that and sadly our great country has more anger than good will now. Signs of the times I guess.

Earl have you thought for a moment how Latinos feel listening to Mr. Trump or hard working Blacks feel listening to Rush, Fox or Sean discussing race - yes, I agree Sad! By the way - What mass killing has been done against any race by a Black American, since President Obama has been in office? Now tell me the actions of families in Charleston!

I don't think that any of the examples of racism that become news today are problems that have only recently happened or that the people just developed these attitudes. The problem is that police issues were widely swept under the rug and without cameras around all of the time, claims of brutality were often dismissed without evidence.

In addition, on both sides of the problems, it's typical the idiots who shouldn't have a public voice who are quick to speak up and show their true colors. With social media, it's easy for those most extreme views to get the most retweets, comments, likes or then cause the opponent to speak with equal or greater stupidity.

This board provides enough good examples if we're being honest. I know most won't admit it but there are frequent enough instances of racism displayed...I have a pretty good feeling those attitudes are deeply engrained in the cowards who probably pretend to treat people of color equally in public but are quick to flip the script when they can hide behind the anonymity of a username.

From what I'm reading there is some real crazy stuff going on in Columbia, Missouri and the president isnt doing anything about it, hence the protest. Listen I think, just like the players at Oklahoma (last year?), that it's not only ok but right for kids on these teams to stand up for their beliefs. I get so frustrated with the whole "shut up and play, that's all you are here for" attitude people have. I would hope that if people on campus were mistreating others, our players would have the courage to all stand United against it. Stop this white and black bull crap and all stand together as freaking human beings against the idiocy that seems to keep cropping up everywhere.

Couldn't agree more.
Problem is that victimology is pushed in in this country, to blacks, to women, and now to homosexuals.
If you're taught there are booby men and enemies everywhere, then you'll see them everywhere.

Nobody is condoning racism. But making ridiculous demands will not make those knuckleheads non racist. I would go as far as to say that the way this 1950 group is handing the situation will only make it worse. Why? Because it is offensive to white people to bend over backwards and cave to a shakedown. It is no different than Jesse Jackson protesting.

The best way to stamp out racism is for people to respect each other. Respect is not gained by shakedowns and that is all this is.
That is a wonderful Sir & sounds great. My question to you is (I do not know the details of this protest) what are the problems & how were they handled? What was done offensive to White People? Is Rev. Jackson involved? Do you think the respect you saying should occur is being given to the Protesters.
As a Black Man I am so Proud of the 1950 Protesters because if it was not for them I would not be voting, riding in back of the bus & maybe still picking cotton! For Every Rev. Jackson & Sharpton there is Rush Limbaugh & Shaun Hannity - Shakedowns come in all shape, sizes & race!

Completely agree cris. I said this earlier but I'll say it again. We have to stop thinking in terms of black and white and Hispanic etc. We are all human beings. People are hurting people with their actions. It shouldn't be this race against the other. We are all people. Even in normal everyday life we do it, I'm guilty of it as much as the next. I feel like it is necessary to qualify a person's skin color in a story or watching a game talking about how "that white boy is good!" Like the color of his skin is some determining factor in judging his play on the field. I'm just tired of it all. I'll take the anonymity out of it. My name is Alex Allen. I live in columbia, South Carolina and I'm tired of the hate that seems to be everywhere you look these days. I promise to do all I can to change it in my life as best as I can.

Eh yes and no. Yes people are sensitive sometimes. Alot of times people are jerks and treat each other like crap. Yeah I think it ridiculous when some one ignores a sign that says "dangerous: do other enter" and gets hurt so their family sues is ridiculous. But when some one gets drunk and decides to start spewing nonsense that hurts other people that isn't being sensitive, it's being a human being

That is exactly what this is... The same as the nonsense in Ferguson!!

I heard something about a poop swatstika on a door

I have no idea, but that sounds a lot like the hoaxes that have happened on other campuses. People do this stuff in order to cause just this kind of uproar. In their minds, it's justified because they just know there's a race problem that nobody's aware of, so all they're doing is bringing it to light.

Ok place it in proper context! Should these athletes be allowed to Peacefully Protest in your opinion or not? My opinion is This Is America, thus yes. Those are my context, just help me out.

Whether it's allowed or not is a lot different from whether it's good. In my opinion, they should be allowed to do whatever they want, but they just shouldn't have the privilege of being on the football team and using their position to blackmail the university.

Did you read through the Columbia news article that was actually posted here? The stuff being protested doesn't sound like "real crazy stuff going on" and the MU administration actually did respond by requiring faculty, staff and students to go through training. But other demands were made that the administration apparently didn't think would be helpful, and that's what resulted in the protest. Now they're calling for the president to resign unless the university does exactly what they want. They're not interested in working with the administration to compromise, they just want what they want. And now the players say they won't play unless the president quits? That doesn't sound right to me.

Any time I see that some sort of advocacy group is making demands because they claim there's an atmosphere of "racism, sexism, and patriarchy" on a college campus, I immediately get suspicious. That kind of language is stock for progressive activists, who can find "racism, sexism, and patriarchy" almost anywhere. While I think the university ought to do something if black people are being called the n-word, they also don't need to validate everything a progressive activist is demanding.

They should pull their scholarships and then just move to IAA in all sports because effectively that will be the level that they could play on for the next decade at least.

I was impressed with the families in Charleston. Well done, can't say the same for our divisive President.

I'm over 60 Chris and see the same thing. We're fvcked in this country with anything pertaining to race. Try to say a damn thing and you're called a racist. R U sh!tting me? Why are whites today to blame for the moral sins of the past? Why is profiling a reality? Where are the results from the trillions of dollars spent on Civil Rights? I'll tell you where the responsibility lies...decades of politicians with a finger in the pie...White and Black. If we had the bravery to trust each without our SUPPOSED Black and White current leaders involved, we might be able to make progress.....AGAIN. You can call my one-legged, Jewish ass racist all day long, but if you're honest with yourself, bad race relations is a chapter in defeating a Republic...this Republic....and this regime has made it a point to widen the years and years of work as WE...WE...started working things out. This will not end well if people of all colors can't put aside pride and, especially, HATE. Whatever....things that are happening today make me less willing to work at what can be good.....because of the hate. People talk shit about "haters" on this board all the time. Well...the "haters" that perpetrate and instigate this prolonged problem can kiss my ass.... and YOU know who you are...White OR Black.

This is exactly right. I have no idea whether there is any real systemic racism within the student body or faculty at UM, or whether any racial incident actually happened to the student body president or he just made it up. But forcing some silly "racial awareness" course on students, faculty, etc., is pointless, other than to empower the group demanding the course/training and help the protested assuage whatever generational guilt they're convinced they should feel. The reality is you can't change the condition of the heart with a class. If I'm a racist, your classes & training will never be able to change that, because it's not my mind that needs changing.

What you call blackmail America calls freedom. As a parent of two former division 1 athletes I can assure you, peaceful demonstrations do Not violate NCAA rules. FYI as was the case in OU, With CU & USC Coaches irt the confederate flag, Missouri Coach are standing with the players. My friend believe it or not the power lies with the student athletes, it is called recruiting! Again, I do not know the issues but believe in non violent protest!

Well, once again, I'm not claiming that any laws or rules are being broken. I think non-violent protest is sometimes worthwhile, and definitely an important right that people can exercise.

On the other hand, we can't just look at any instance of non-violent protest and equate it with Dr. MLK, Jr. and the effort he was leading. In this case, we're talking about players and students whose rights aren't being violated in any way who are making very specific demands, including having the university president (who wasn't responsible for any of the comments that may have been made, and who did actually respond initially by requiring training for faculty, staff, and students) step down. I do believe that people using derogatory racial slurs is terrible and should be addressed, but (as you pointed out above), we're not talking about Jim Crowe and racially motivated violence here. We don't know who actually made the swastika poop painting, or why they did it.

We're also talking about people who, supported by various "studies" faculty, are claiming that something be done to address a climate of "racism, sexism, and patriarchy." So it sounds like they're not just addressing things that may have happened to some black students, they're also trying to use this as an opportunity to force the administration to validate a laundry list of pretty radical progressive demands. That's what these players are aligning themselves with.

I'm sure you enjoyed the coverage FOX provided for you. FOX made Martin out to be a thug while CNN made him out to be a saint. The bottom line is that none of it should have ever happened.
Martin had pics on his cell phone of a bunch of stolen goods, he was one of the main reasons they created the neighborhood watch group. Kid was nothing but trouble waiting for a jail cell. His aggressiveness got the best of him when he repeatedly pounded an armed guys head into the cement. Martin got exactly what he had coming to him. The world is a better, safer place without him.

From what I read four main issues occurred involving race.

-The first was a group of students were rehearsing a play, outside I believe, and a drunk person (do not know it they were a student or not) started yelling racist remarks.

-The second involved students being upset that a statue of Thomas Jefferson is on campus. They got a petition signed by like 2000 people wanting it removed but it is not removed.

-The third is a claim by a black student that someone called her the N word.

-The fourth was someone smearing a swastika image with feces in a dorm hallway.

All of these are unacceptable and students began having some protests about race relations. They then sent a list of demands to the President and told him he had eight days to meet the demands:

. We demand that the University of Missouri System President, Tim Wolfe, writes a handwritten apology to the Concerned Student 1-9-5-0 demonstrators and holds a press conference in the Mizzou Student Center reading the letter. In the letter and at the press conference, Tim Wolfe must acknowledge his white male privilege, recognize that systems of oppression exist, and provide a verbal commitment to fulfilling Concerned Student 1-9-5-0 demands. We want Tim Wolfe to admit to his gross negligence, allowing his driver to hit one of the demonstrators, consenting to the physical violence of bystanders, and lastly refusing to intervene when Columbia Police Department used excessive force with demonstrators.

II. We demand the immediate removal of Tim Wolfe as UM system president. After his removal a new amendment to UM system policies must be established to have all future UM system president and Chancellor positions be selected by a collective of students, staff, and faculty of diverse backgrounds.

III. We demand that the University of Missouri meets the Legion of Black Collegians' demands that were presented in 1969 for the betterment of the black community.

IV. We demand that the University of Missouri creates and enforces comprehensive racial awareness and inclusion curriculum throughout all campus departments and units, mandatory for all students, faculty, staff, and administration. This curriculum must be vetted, maintained, and overseen by a board comprised of students, staff, and faculty of color.

V. We demand that by the academic year 2017-2018, the University of Missouri increases the percentage of black faculty and staff campus-wide to 10%.

VI. We demand that the University of Missouri composes a strategic 10 year plan by May 1, 2016 that will increase retention rates for marginalized students, sustain diversity curriculum and training, and promote a more safe and inclusive campus.

VII. We demand that the University of Missouri increases funding and resources for the University of Missouri Counseling Center for the purpose of hiring additional mental health professionals — particularly those of color, boosting mental health outreach and programming across campus, increasing campus-wide awareness and visibility of the counseling center, and reducing lengthy wait times for prospective clients.

VIII. We demand that the University of Missouri increases funding, resources, and personnel for the social justices centers on campus for the purpose of hiring additional professionals, particularly those of color, boosting outreach and programming across campus, and increasing campus-wide awareness and visibility.

Now if this sounds reasonable to you for what has transpired we will just have to disagree. Quite honestly it's ridiculous. Also not mentioned anywhere by the media is the fact that the President had been drafting a diversity plan since the early summer to implement by January. This was done in response to the Ferguson riots.

This entire thing has escalated to a level it never should have and is being flamed by irrational people. If people keep throwing gas on a small fire we will have another Ferguson on our hands and I don't think anybody wants that as it does nothing to improve respect and race relations.

These people being victimized don't need to be taught that, they actually have to live it. And it is certainly not everywhere, but it is somewhere and sometimes and that is a damn shame.

Everybody gets victimized occasionally, myself included.
One of the primary tools of the communist (and left wing) agenda is to pitt group against group. Quit falling for the failed communist left wing agenda.

wow! you really need to read the WHOLE story about Zimmerman, that was first degree murder in the worse way.

It's time for everyone to grow up and move on. This whole deal is just a descendant of the Ferguson debacle that allowed the media to cast rioting blacks and Mike Brown and his family as stupid out of control thugs and in the end only created a greater racial divide in our country. The fact that the 1950 group wants the president to "acknowledge his white male privilege" is stupid and unless there is something bigger that has happened that is not being reported they ought to fire the Missouri coach immediately for condoning a protest to fire a man not because he did something wrong but because he didn't "acknowledge his white male privilege" and failed to prevent some racist coward in a pickup from hollering the N word out the window as he drove by a group of blacks.
Our society has turned into a bunch of over sensitive pansies.

The problem with people like you is that you can't even try to put yourself in someone else's shoes. I'm not falling for anything.....I would imagine that I'm much more objective than you are regarding these types of issues.

Expected point of view from an ultra conservative like yourself. Zimmerman was told to back off by the authorities but because he had a gun he felt confident enough to ignore them and proceeded to provoke the whole incident. Zimmerman is and was a pussy that hides behind a gun. Pretty damn sad that a kid is dead because of that if you ask me.
