Can you imagine...

This is a really sad situation. Absolutely horrible.

Anyone (Police Officer included) ***breaks into*** my house without a warrant and it’s going down.

Sitting in your apartment minding your own business only to have a police officer break in, point a gun at you, bark orders at you, then shoot you for not complying... In your own house...

This is America huh...

obviously a really shitty situation but why make this some politically charged event? Oh wait, that’s what Democrats love to do....

Apparantly she didnt break into his apartment, she thought she was going into her apartment that was a floor down from his. When she put her key card into the door lock the door opened. It's not like she showed up and kicked the door in. She opened the door with her key and saw someone in what she thought was her apartment and assumed she was being robbed. It's a pretty messed up situation.

There are also reports of immediately prior of banging on a door and screaming let me in.

You are taking the word of a literal murderer.

I don't know about anyone else, but if someone is pointing a gun at me, I'm going to do just about anything they tell me to do. You want my wallet, fine! Can I drive you to the ATM? You want me to get down, in my own apartment, which you just broke into, well I'm not happy about it but you're the one with the gun, so...

People today, and I'm talking about all people, have a very serious problem with authority. Parents have gone from not disciplining their children, to full on encouragement of defiance. And this is the unfortunate result.

I have no problem standing up for myself, or with others standing up for themselves, but you have to assess the situation, and act accordingly. If I was in that situation, I'd have done exactly what I was told to do. I'd have been released. And then I'd retire, because that police officer, police department, etc would be sending me monthly settlement checks. Dude could have hit the jackpot, instead he got shot. Terrible outcome.

He was in his own home minding his own business. And this is about people's problems with authority?

To blame the victim here is pretty unfathomable.

Also, tldr for folks: @Trading Tiger is a bit of a Fascist.

Sad story but you are a sensationalist and a drama queen of the highest order. It’s also football season.

Are you telling me you weren’t intending to make a political statement by writing “this is America huh”?

You are the one who made this political. You are what is wrong with this country. I think we can all agree that America has problems that need to be solved, and if you are an AMERICAN you should want to solve those problems. Stop making everything a team sport.

Another point here: she was willing to kill someone over her stuff. She was in the doorway and not in immediate danger, even according to her.

It wasn't her stuff so it's a moot point. However if she was being robbed then you could argue someone was willing to risk losing their life for her stuff.

She should be charged and imprisoned for what she did. The only fact that matters to me is that she intentionally shot and killed an innocent person. I guess the facts matter when you get to the specific charge but at the end of the day a completely innocent life was lost due to her direct actions.

It's just a shame how fast so many lives can be changed. If she went to the correct apartment that day then he is still alive, she isn't facing a trial and two families aren't severely affected

The whole point is that you and I would not have been in that particular situation. We would have been viewed differently. Also it is easy for everyone to say I would have done this or I would have done that, but we weren't there with someone coming into our house like that. Sad situation altogether.

How do you know he didn’t comply?

If I was sitting in my apartment minding my own business only to have a police officer break in, point a gun at me and bark orders at me, I would comply so I wouldn't get shot. We could work out the misunderstanding later. That's just me though because as you say, this is America.

If you walked into your apartment and saw it was getting robbed would you also shoot first and ask questions later?

Really messed up situation and I hate it for the families of the people involved.

In fairness, you are believing the word of “reports.”

Also you’re convicting her as a murderer without a fair trial. That’s not very lawyer-like of you.
