There used to be conservatives in both parties. You are talking about Dixiecrats. Only one member of that group ever changed to be a Pub and that was Storm. All the other Dixiecrats stayed Dem until they died. The last publicly know KKK member I can think of was Byrd that was elected in DC. Even Clinton is quoted saying take it easy on Byrd because you had to be a Dem to be a member of the Klan. The Klan lynched and murdered Pubs for supporting blacks back in the day. There was a reason 95% of blacks voted for pubs back in the day and MLK was a Pub. There is a reason Malcolm X hated the Dems. Also understand just like all Dems arent liberal not all Pubs are conservative. Both parties have a diverse group in its makeup and not all parts agree with each other. Conservatives have always been on the side of freedom and equal rights. There is a reason the DNC forced all the conservatives out back in the 90's in DC.

To add context - two were 'expelled' BUT both can be re-elected via special election, as well as being appointed as an interim representative. I think one was already reappointed on an interim basis until the special election can be held, and the second that was expelled can also be reinstated the same way. And can be re-elected in the special election.
