This always seemed to be a violation of rights IMO. But ending stop and frisk reduces high school dropout rate by 44%. Even more harmful consequence of this policy.

Last election year we had riots about police, calls to defund the police, etc. Guess ole Prime is warming up for some blue hate this spring and summer.
You don’t have a problem with mentally ill people being murdered? What about the below?

Perhaps this will appeal to the fiscal conservative in you…

“Over roughly the past 5½ years, Los Angeles paid out more than $245 million to resolve legal claims involving the Police Department — more than a third of the total amount of liability payouts for the city during that period, according to a Times analysis of city records”

Just curious about have YOU ever been in a very tense possible situation in real life

Or do you just talk about what you know nothing about from real life experienced

Man you are full of excuses for cops. They are armed and have training. No reason to shoot an unarmed man and the city is going to pay out a huge settlement as a result.

Based on your thinking, we should just let cops shoot anyone anytime they are scared.

Perhaps consider their perspective. There are bad apples in all industries but cops, teachers, and first responders are terribly underpaid.

Yeah, I don’t buy the bad apple argument with cops. My issues are with training, in that the majority of it is fear-based “if you don’t do this you may not come home to your family”, instead of learning how to de-escalate. A cop should never lead the interaction with a mentally ill person. That should be a therapist.

Teachers are underpaid, for certain. I think the benefits and overtime cops get is pretty good for those with minimal education. And frankly, most who want to do that job can get a job as a cop.

My other issue is that bad cops who get fired are frequently hired in other districts. If you get fired in one district, then you should not be allowed to be a cop again.

Thank you for helping explain some of the issues to the NEW TI KNOW IT ALL

I THOUGHT I HAD THE CROWN LOCKED UP BUT THIS DUDE IS DEFINITELY NOT THE KING BUT THE EMPEROR OF BULLSHIT

I am in the process of advocating for better hiring of public servants such as police, EMT, fire fighters , etc. through a college to career program such as used by the military

Free education for likr 8 to 10 years service or pay back loan on graduation

For existing police better candidates, fair pay, better equipment, better training, etc

All this takes time leadership and a targeted goal

It is easy to shout about the problems

It takes a dam good effort to fix problems instead of being a hate monger , race baiter, division creator, racist, socialist, communist, etc

I am working at fixing problems and not just whining and blaming anyone snd everyone

People going into law enforcement at this time are not the top of the class

They need some tuning to help make it better for the public

You want solutions? Here are 10:
1) end qualified immunity
2) create a federal database and any cop who gets fired will not be allowed to be a cop in any other district
3) mandate civilian oversight boards
4) allocate police budget to mental health and domestic abuse counselors
5) eliminate police unions
6) end stop & frisk
7) end “no knock” warrants
8) stop indemnifying officers
9) eliminate the transfer of military grade equipment to police departments
10) eliminate civil asset forfeitures

Lol. Gotta love blaming the police for the problems and not the criminals. I can fix this with one solution:

1) Stop committing crimes.

Underwhelmed

Most of that is bullshit when the bug hits the windshield

Criminal talking points

Needed to add to my thoughts

I just don’t see or hear you as a serious person

Not all crimes should be punishable by death… It’s not the 4th century.

Expecting more from the people who are paid to “protect and serve” shouldn’t be so polarizing. That’s also not even addressing the police going to the wrong locations and shooting innocent people: Breonna Taylor, Robert Dotson, Nakala Murray, and Ismael Lopez are just 4 in recent memory.

Sure, we should work to improve some limited issues that exist. But those issues exist because we have total pieces of shit out there that threaten the lives of police officers every day. So yea, they make mistakes, but they could also lose their life at any moment trying to protect us. I'm sure I'd screw up at some point too.

BTW, it's awful when innocent lives are lost, whether that be accidental issues from a police officer, or felonious acts towards a police officer. 73 officers were feloniously killed in 2021 and 60 in 2022. Presumably, all of these were "innocent" victims. Just horrible.

Drug trafficking is punishable by death in Singapore. Easily the safest and cleanest city I’ve ever visited. Was there for 17 days, and didn’t hear a siren once.

I would also say that communities should embrace their police departments so that the ranks of of the police force are made up of people from the community.

Yes, losing your life in the line of duty is tragic; just like how it's tragic when officers kill innocent people/bystanders. You (read: universal you) want to reduce officers being killed in the line of duty? Enact stricter gun control laws. There's a reason that damn near every police officer association calls for stronger gun legislation (but naturally nothing gets acted upon.)

Agreed with the 2nd part wholeheartedly.

I don't necessarily support the death penalty - with the rare exception of when there is no doubt of the guilt of the accused. The amount of people in prison for nonviolent drug offenses is staggering, and in many cases there are innocent wrongfully accused people serving time for said offenses. An automatic death sentence for those peddling drugs is not something I'd want replicated here in the US, mainly because the concept of someone innocent being put to death sickens me.

I’m all for stricter, sensible gun legislation. That said, how many firearms used in officer involved killings are owned legally. I’d be willing to bet a significant proportion are not.
