Just wanted to pass along that the Covid vaccine is making its way to us and I am scheduled to get my first of two shots tomorrow morning!! I'd encourage everyone to not only get the vaccine when it is made available to you but work within your social circles to get others to take this vaccine as well. Getting enough of the population vaccinated is the only way we stand to get this virus behind us. No different than getting the flu vaccine. Hopefully by mid 2021 this damn virus is in our rear view mirror. Regardless of your politics I think we can all agree the last 10 months have sucked!!

5 pages....not gonna end well

Hopefully this doesn't turn into a political thread that gets moved.

How did you get scheduled? Work for a hospital? I'm wondering how the common folk that don't work in a hospital, don't live in a nursing home, and aren't the initial priority go about getting in line to be notified when they can get shot?

Our office was shootin the shit and someone mentioned the 18-29 bracket are getting bumped way up the list for their propensity to not follow/care about protocols and becoming super spreaders.

Good for you. I'm one of the 50% that will take it when available to me.

My wife is in the wait and see crowd. Which is fine, except her "wait and see" time won't give her anymore data than is available now. She wants to see what happens and then take it in the summer if all goes well. This is timeframe it probably will be availble for me and her anyway.

No thanks. My daily vitamin d supplement is my vaccine. Too many side effects. But to each his own. Would not argue against it if people want to take it.

The people least affected by COVID are being bumped up the list? Am I missing something? Seems like an idiotic thing to do if you have a limited supply of the vaccine, atleast early-on.

@krfuquamd how did you get signed up for it? I thought it was only for health care workers and extreme at risk right now?

I am not interested myself but my parents would be very interested to go ahead and get it done. I wouldn't classify them as super high risk but both are in their upper 60s with some small underlying things.

I need a minute by minute report of you turning into one of those 100m dash champion zombies from I am Legend until you turn.

Haven't heard this anywhere. Doesn't really make sense either since many in that range probably don't care enough to get the vaccine.

I think one school of thought is that if the majority of the "healthy" population that is working, traveling, going to school/college, socializing, not living in isolation gets the vaccine, then you will greatly reduce the spread to the more vulnerable population.

Not idiotic. The most social people getting it first seems to stop the problem before it starts. They are apparently behind healthcare/frontline workers and the elderly but ahead of everyone else.

I'm actually fine with this to be honest. They are the super spreaders. My nephew is 22 and a college football player. He's had it and has friends that have that were basically all asymptomatic. He didn't go, but a big group of his friends rented a large house in Clearwater beach back in July. Every single kid in the house had it when they came home and further spread it. One girl had a cough so her parents made her take the test. The 15 other kids all tested as a result. All had it and would not have cared if that girl's parents didn't make her take the test.

Not gonna happen

Is this a one time deal similar to chicken pox/hepatitis or is this an every year vaccine similar to the flu?

Sorry for the dumb question. Haven't researched it.

Being vaccinated doesn't necessarily mean you can't be a carrier. They have very little risk of having a negative outcome (or any outcome at all). The CDC isn't going to bump them up. They will be "gen pop" like the rest of us.

Also interested how this will be distributed once the first wave of medical personnel/high risk population gets theirs.

Cut and paste from CDC. Covid is clearly an age dependent killer. The 85+ group are the smallest age group yet have the highest deaths. That trend continues downward as age decreases. Huge drop offs for each age bracket especially if you do a ratio of the population. What this chart does not tell you is number of pre-existing conditions that also attributed to the deaths.

I am an anesthesiologist and therefore considered a Tier 1 health care worker. I received an email from the CDC directing me how to sign up after the primary hospital I work at, Self Regional in Greenwood, sent the CDC a prioritized listing of whom should be vaccinated in the initial wave starting tomorrow.

My understanding is that across the country frontline health care workers and those in nursing homes will be prioritized first and then we will work outwards from there, probably moving to the elderly next and so on.

Think hard about your decision on whether to get this vaccine or not folks. Educate yourself and make an informed decision, not one tainted by your political views or some wild conspiracy theories you may have heard. Most of you would survive the virus just fine without the vaccine but it might be your parent, your grandparent, the old lady down the street, that you are protecting by getting this vaccine. Many times we do things for the greater good. This is one of those times.

Unknown if you will need a booster. The initial expectation is between enough vaccinated and those already having COVID, the virus will not have any hosts and die out.

Flu vaccine is usually a new strain expected to prevalent that season. Its not a traditional booster.

Quick question from an uninformed person....is this vaccine a "cure" or more preventative like the flu shot?

You sure you not getting the Pfizer vaccine?

Moderna hasn't been approved yet but should be this week. I was a Moderna Phase III Moderna vaccine tester -- who got the placebo. I know beacause I went and got an antibody test.

Hopefully the Moderna vaccine is approved and distributed this week. Gives us more to start getting shots in people. And yes, I will take the thing at the first freaking opportunity.

I want the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine -- not wild about the Astrazeneca one. The research on its effectiveness is in question.

There is the thought/conspiracy that the vaccine is a radical movement towards population control. Since the 18-29 year old age bracket tends to produce a lot of children, seems like a good way to target them under the guise of being super spreaders.

A better statement should be: it'll be made available to them before the "general public"

Yes. That is true. They are among the first of the "general public" recommended to get it. But they aren't going to get moved ahead of where they are. The ones that could get bumped would be school aged, if/when the vaccine is proven safe and effective for 16 and under.

I'll be getting the Pfizer vaccine. The Moderna vaccine will be coming out probably end of the week. I'll get a second shot 21 days after the first. Most of the research is showing that within a month of that second shot I'll be max protected but my body will start producing antibody immediately after the shot tomorrow.

I look forward to being able to visit my parents, both 81, without having to wear a mask or staying a safe distance from them for fear of giving them a virus I may have picked up at the hospital and had no idea I had at the time.

I had a buddy that did the vaccine trials. He said the first shot was not so bad just like the flu shot. He said the 2nd shot was the same as the first but wow did he every get sick for about 24 hours...

He said he would do it again but he honestly admitted that the booster made him feel worse than he ever has for about 24 hours. He is hoping that is just the effects on him and not everyone else. He wanted to go to the emergency room in the middle of the night but he didn't have the energy to wake his wife.

Edit: He did the Moderna trial.
