Thank goodness. Hopefully reason prevails and Trump is put out to pasture.

@TigerGrowls - Knowing that Desantis is preferred among republicans, moderates and independents - and therefore has the better shot at defeating the dems - are you changing your support for Trump in the primary?

“In a hypothetical contest between the two, Mr. DeSantis beats Mr. Trump, 52% to 38%, among likely GOP primary voters contemplating a race in which the first nomination votes will be cast in just over a year.”

“The poll found that Mr. DeSantis is both well-known and well-liked among Republicans who say they are likely to vote in a party primary or nominating contest, with 86% viewing the Florida governor favorably, compared with 74% who hold a favorable view of Mr. Trump.”

But that poll was taken before trump released his trading card scam today. That is a game changer.

I really, really am going to enjoy watching trump burn the whole GOP to the ground when he does not get his way. I remember way back to the 2016 pub convention, when he kept saying "I alone can fix it" and all of the pubs cheered and cheered and cheered. I told my wife way back then that this was going to be a problem for the GOP.

I’m with you bud, never liked Trump, just his policies and the fact that he actually tried to accomplish what he said he would. For that I’ll give him credit but his act is so old. The guy does not learn, evolve, change. He is SO politically naive and is NOT a great communicator. We need someone who can WIN, and to do that you have to appeal to a broader base, especially now that things are so bad. People assume his base will expand becuase it is so bad but he’s already maxed out iyam. The squishy low information independents are the key to victory.

I am on the Trump Train until it stops or runs off the track.

We are very happy for the Republicans to nominate either candidate.

Edit - In fact, we'll celebrate anyone from MAGA world getting the nomination.

Do you believe that if trump loses he will just call it a day? No way. He will likely start his own maga party so he can continue milking donations from the maga rubes.

You might be right. Look at Growls. Still on the Trump train and has said he would follow him to an "America first nationalist" party or whatever. I don't understand it, but Trump clearly has a vice grip on these people.

Trump knows he can't win. So at this point he has to be in it 100% for the grift. I don't think that was the case when he first ran, but it is now.

Yep. He will start the “the system is rigged against me” talk and convince a large part of his base to walk. They already think the Republican Party is the deep state.

Edit: I will say though, there are a lot of people on here who have been slobbin trump’s knob the past six years who are now saying, “i never really liked trump, just his policies.” So you have that going for you.

I disagree. I honestly always felt like Trump was in it for the $$$$. He loves publicity, the only thing he has actually accomplished in his life is being a publicity whore who managed to also be a pretty good con artist, particularly to low intelligence people.

He created an image that he knew would appeal to the far right and he coupled that with playing the "Christian" enough do that the anti-abortion Christian vote could at least try to do enough Mental Gymnastics to allow them to vote for him.

Trump is what he has always been, a pretty lazy, lacking any morale compass, rich boy.

I think he was in it for fame and power and ego initially, and maybe money as well. I'm not sure even he knew how easy it would be to scam simps out of their money though. Now he's selling action cards with laser eyes FFS.

It's the easiest and best business he's ever been in. Just like TV evangelists before him discovered. Idiots will send you money if you tell them you can help them.

I think he finds an excuse to drop out way before then. His announcement that he's running in the after effects of it could not have been worse. He's nowhere close to the same candidate he was. He's gotten old and he's out of touch and he's gone crazy. He finds a way to get out of it before then.

Imagine saying this and then endorsing Ron DeSantis as if he’s any different. Both check an awful lot of boxes on the fascism scorecard. But that’s really all the Republicans want these days - just searching for the nest fascist they can put the sheep’s clothing on.

What if the track he’s on is not the won that leads to an electoral college victory? Have you looked at the map? He’s not winning without Pennsylvania, Arizona and Nevada. I’m not sure any ‘Pub can win with the election fraud in those states anyway. Also the RNC hates Trump -and anyone who supports him, which is a big part of the midterm failures. Telling you man I have talked to thousands of people in the Upstate since 2016 about him and a huge percentage really don’t like him but understand the policies are desperately needed. However someone who’s politically savvy and a whole lot less offensive and pugnacious (like Desantis) can get more done and sway more of the mushy middle. I’ll go ahead and predict right now he’s NOT the nominee. His ship has run it’s course

You might be right. I am going to support Trump until hes not in it though. Thats the right thing to do imo. Trump for all his imperfections laid it out there for America and got more done than anyone else ever did and I am sticking with him. I am telling you that I am absolutely not sure that any of the Trump clones and thats what Desantis and some others are can or will get anywhere near to doing what Trump was able to do.

Keep in mind also Trump is a billionaire and as we have seen cannot be controlled by the uniparty. Desantis and some of these others are nowhere near that rich and thus are much more vulnerable to being controlled no matter what anyone thinks.

Desantis is not Trump without the mouth. Interesting note of differences on foreign policy.

For the life of me, I don't understand why Republicans only want to elect the most hate-able and divisive candidates they can find. I do believe DeSantis could beat Trump in the primary, but the dude gives off major Hitler vibes and will drive Dem turnout as strongly as Trump did.

If Republicans really cared about winning, they'd put up someone like Gov. Chris Sununu. He just won his 4th consecutive term in a blue state by 15 points - a slaughter. I watched an interview with him recently and he's about as likeable as it gets - he's also a problem solver and a fiscal conservative but he doesn't want to get mired down in divisive politicking, so I guess that means the base won't like him, but I could absolutely see him winning a general easily against any of the possible contenders we know about on the Dem side. You'll need a lot of crossover votes to take the office back and this guy would be a slam dunk to do just that.

The problem is that half the Republican voters actually wants fascism, they want totalitarianism. They want someone who will undermine America’s institutions and install something more closely resembling a theocracy, they want someone who will undo the constitution and remake it in the Christian nationalist image.

The other half of the party only cares about not paying taxes and they’re willing to vote for whoever they have to. They talk about things like “small government” even as they support someone like DeSantis who wants the government to punish Apple if they decide not to carry the Twitter app because all they really care about is small government for themselves and no one else.

They voted for Trump and flat out ignored that he literally said over and over again that if he lost it would be because the election was fraudulent and then acted surprised when he claimed the election was fraudulent and encouraged his supporters to storm the capitol.

Now they’ll gladly throw their support behind DeSantis despite the fact that he also makes up conspiracies about voter fraud and denies science and is cozy with the extreme religious right and has even taken measures to rewrite chunks of American history and make teachers mouthpieces of the state - something that is directly out of the fascist playbook for installing authoritarian government.

Half the party wants that, and the other half of the party just ignores it because they’re paying slightly less in taxes. And in truth, they support these measures as well because rewriting American history, spreading misinformation, and limiting voting rights is the only way Republicans have any chance of continuing to win national elections.

The reason Republicans like @scotchtiger say things like hopefully we dump trump is only because he doesn’t think Trump has a chance to win. If Trump is the nominee, he’ll vote for him again.

Damn, you're absolutely right - well said! I've said all along they care more about causing pain for their "enemies" than legislating in a way that would benefit all Americans. Winning would mean they'd have to cooperate with the other side and I believe half would rather launch an armed revolt before letting that happen.

That’s a dramatic oversimplification of factions within the party and an exaggeration of the percentage fitting within each.

I probably wouldn’t vote if Trump were the nominee. Unless something dramatic changes, I certainly wouldn’t vote for the dem nominee. Biden tried to add trillions of entitlements via BBB, campaigned on taking more money from my family and spent what could be upwards of another trillion on an absurd student loan program.

These are terrible policies. Government dependence is toxic. We can’t afford the entitlements that we have now. Trump sucks, but there’s no way I’m supporting this crap either.
