Certainly nothing is safer than being in a private room by yourself and never coming into contact with anybody else. But, barring that, if people are going to go outdoors, they need to have wide open spaces. Don't beaches and parks provide that? The alternatives are that nobody ever leaves home, or people end up on more crowded sidewalks.I'm amazed there are people that don't understand why this is a problem. The only think I can figure is those people believe that people aren't going to gather on the beaches. Sure it's great to outside and get some air....but 4000 other people have the same idea which is a massive problem.
I am strongly in favor of social distancing measures, and even making them mandatory. But I think eventually telling people they must stay in their own home is going to backfire, especially in places where people don't have a lot of indoor space or any outdoor space of their own. If there is wide open space people can go to, as long as they're not congregating there, what is the problem? Why, for instance, should a lone wind-surfer be arrested?
