Gov Abbot deploys National Guard to border to repel invasion

Someone help me out here. Is border control cutting razor wire, pulling it back, and welcoming migrants across the border? I try to see all sides - lefties help me out here.

You don’t like that? Then you need to write a letter to Kevin McCarthy urging him to pass new border laws. Our current laws, put in place under Reagan, allow an asylum decision to people who make it here. That barbed wire is on US soil, so those people had already made it to the US.

This is your daily reminder that the republican controlled congress has voted on ZERO new laws for border legislation. Passed zero, voted on zero. ZERO. squat. Nada.

Start writing letters now.

As I posted yesterday, there is a 20 car train hauling illegals to the border from Zacatecas full of illegals, mainly from Venezuela. Curiously though it's all young males. Where are the wifes and children?
Venezuelans are seeking asylum in the US because they can't get it here in Costa Rica, Colombia or any other Latin country because most require a visa and a passport.
Guess what? Most countries here are allowing them to cross through knowing they're just passing to the US border.
Good luck dudes, but this will back fire, they're not fleeing socialist regimes because they're so great. LOL

I don’t need a reminder. GOP sucks.

And just because we have asylum laws doesn’t mean we have to remove physical barriers. They can make their way to a port of call and register for asylum, then preferably wait in Mexico (or their home country) for notice of approval or decline. The razor wire can and should be used to channel migrants to organized entry points.

Public service announcement that Congress is made up of the House and the Senate. The House is controlled by Republicans and the Senate is controlled by the Democrats. Therefore, a rational person can conclude that Congress is neither controlled by Republicans nor Democrats.

Seems as if some people do not know what congress is.

Just my opinion, but the Texas law enforcement officers should arrest - on-the-spot - any FED that cuts state-installed barriers and let the courts deal with it.

Yes. We are getting to the point where we may have state vs federal confrontation. Or citizen vs state confrontation.

This is your "daily reminder" that Republicans do not control Congress!! Republicans control the House of Representatives which is one part of the Congress. The Senate is controlled by, well I'm sure you know that. Legislation opportunities can originate in either the House or the Senate. Show me any rational legislative options provided by the Senate regarding immigration reform. Every person that enters the U.S. illegally is not eligible for asylum! Tell me that your president is doing everything possible to control the border crisis under existing laws!!!! He is not and therefore is in violation of the oath he took prior to becoming president. Read the oath, it has some very compelling language!!!

His point - which is valid - is that when republicans controlled the house, senate and executive branch - as they did under trump for 2 years - they did not pass new lasting legislation on immigration. The dems suck on this subject, but the gop is mostly hot air.

I might add that Obama had a SUPER MAJORITY in the Senate and controlled all branches of government when he was in office and the Democrats could have written and passed ANY LAW THEY WANTED ON IMMIGRATION

No law passed So what is the secret sauce that both parties want to keep using to keep this mess

Beats me

You are correct. Every person who reaches American soil is not eligible for asylum. But our current laws say they are eligible to request asylum. Most are denied and turned away immediately. But they still have to be processed. That is why the border officials are cutting the wire in the video.

the REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES has neither voted on nor passed any laws on immigration reform. None. Nada. Zilch.

This is odd considering every time a camera is running they run in front of it and talk about immigration.

And what rational legislation has the liberal controlled Senate offered??? Zilch, nada, etc.!!! On the other note you mentioned, Schumer is the absolute king of going to the mike and camera to bitch about everything imaginable!!!

If MAGA controlled the Congress we would have a wall built already. But hey, that was racist amirite? Where are the people calling Abbott racist? Where are the people calling Mayor Adams racist? Or was that all just directed at Trump, who was right again?

Fun fact for you. Border apprehensions went down, significantly, under Obama. They spiked up under trump, until 2020 when he used covid to shut down the border.

You guys love to blame biden for what is happening at the border. biden has done more to fix the issue than the republican controlled house. That is a fact. Not up for debate.

Can you remind which party uses immigration as their cornerstone issue?

You mean the wall that is falling down currently? trump promised mexico would pay for the wall. They did not. Neither did the republicans. trump was president for four years and failed to build a wall.

Fun fact... under our current laws, a migrant just has to touch the wall in order to be processed.

The laws need to change. That is the job of congress.

And what do you say for the first two years of the Biden administration when the Dems controlled it all?? I guess that was ok for them to not do what you suggest that Trump didn't do!!

We have already established that you believe the dems are evil socialists who want open borders.

Using them for your whataboutism is not making the point you think you are making.

When you have an invasion of our country, I would assume even the Dems would want to have it as a cornerstone issue!!

Again, Biden has done more to address the issue than the republican controlled house. That is a fact, not up for debate.

Simple math, 222 vs 213 in the House + 48 vs 49 in the Senate + 1 Democrat in the Whitehouse= no chance for immigration reform. Our government cannot even pass a budget, this is a deadlocked do nothing government right now.

Geez, what a statistic! When the border is wide open even the Dems can have success with "their" statistics. Now give me the stat on how many entered and were turned loose in the U. S. and also the number that never got caught. Figures don't lie but liars figure!!!! That goes for both sides. nytigerfan, this debate could go on forever so I just suggest to close the border completely by announcing a national emergency and then go about getting whatever legislation is needed done. Biden is wrong on this issue, is violating the existing law, and has no interest in helping solve the problem. TO HIM, THEY ARE VOTES!!!

Never said the dems are evil socialist, but since you brought it up, yes most are!! If you are part of the Congress and don't go about doing something about the open border, then, yes, you probably are for open borders!!! I'm done discussing the issue - THE PRESIDENT IS BREAKING THE EXISTING LAWS ON THE BORDER ISSUE!!!

no, the wall is pointless. Most immigrants enter through ports of call. the laws need to change.

You seem new here, so as a refresher I have never voted for a democrat in my life and I have zero intention of doing so. They are terrible, but that doesn’t excuse republican inaction when they had the opportunity.

As @scotchtiger correctly pointed out, the GOP controlled the house, the senate and the presidency under trump. What laws did they pass?

Immigration is the GOP's signature issue. They have even proposed new legislation, but they have refused to vote on it under the current GOP controlled house. Too busy investigating hunter.

I am not disagreeing with you, I am merely stating facts that there is little that can be done right now in congress on immigration reform. So throwing it on the Republicans or Democrats for that matter to create legislation is a little absurd. Mainly because Dems and Republicans are staunchly entrenched, and neither side wants to do anything that looks like they are "giving in" to the other side. Do you think that if the Republicans brought forth a version of immigration reform now there would be any passage of that bill? And if it did pass by some miracle, do you think Biden would sign it? Vice versa, do you think if the Democrats brought their own bill forward, it would make it through the house?

Who was in favor of Sanctuary cities? Who called building the wall racist?

He only had a Democratic majority in both houses his first two years in office, when he was focused on turning the economy around. But one thing you can't accuse him of is being lax on immigration - Latinos called him the deporter in chief as he deported almost 3 million immigrants during his two terms, the most in history. He was the first President in modern times where the numbers didn't go up by the time he left office. He also tried to pass comprehensive immigration reform in his second term but it died in the Republican controlled House.

He did enact DACA but Republicans have fought that ever since and want to take that off the table before they're on board with any new legislation.

There is a new bill that republicans have drafted. They just wont vote on it. Apparently, investigating whether hunter biden banged prostitutes is a higher priority.

Why will they not vote on it? Saying that it won't pass the senate is not an excuse. That is the way our system is set up to work. They have to find some middle ground.

To be clear, I am not saying that dems are any better. This thread and many others, started with the premise that the situation on the border is all biden's fault. It is simply not true. Biden has done more than congressional republicans to stem the flow of migrants to our border.

I understand what you are saying, but why should the Republicans vote on someting when they know it will not pass? That would be a waste of time and the bill itself. The current political environment has entrenched Dems against Reps, neither one wants to blink. It is the worst I have seen it in my lifetime. Until we get away from trying to smear each others presidential candidates and political rivals through the court systems, investigations, and the media; and start listening to each other, nothing will get done. And until it does the Texas Governor and New York Mayor, along with many, many others will have to back into some sort of a solution. Until there is a change in the dichotomy of the situation, there will be no solutions for anything.

Seems like voting on a bill would be a win with elections coming up. pubs can say, "look, we tried to do something." Remember, when McCarthy was elected speaker, in his first speech he promised swift immigration reform.

Things are bad now, but let's not pretend like investigating your political rivals is a new phenomenon. Janet Reno appointed a special counsel to investigate her boss, Bill Clinton, and his role in Whitewater. Newt Gingrich and the reublicans said "nope, not good enough" and appointed their own special counsel, Ken Starr. Starr was given unlimited and told to investigate Clinton until he found something. He ultimately nailed Clinton for lying about getting a blow job. (side note: shouldnt we be impeaching Lauren Bobert for lying about giving a HJ in a theater full of kids?)

In 2015, Kevin McCarthy bragged about how much the GOP's constant investigations of Hillary Clinton had damaged her politically. She showed up and testified. She did not ignore subpoenas like trump and the republicans.

During the four years that Clinton was being investigated by Starr, he still worked with republicans to get shit done.
