Grocery cost question

I don't see that because that is not who Elon is, it's not what he stands for, and it's not what he has done in the past.

What he has done, is accomplish things unimaginable to most. He has re-written the book on so many subjects. He has created (several) products that have benefitted and made life easier for millions upon millions of people. Who else can say that? Edison? Franklin?

So while you don't understand how Elon might do some hypothetical things he has never done in the past, I continue to be in amazement at how much one individual can get accomplished and am forever grateful he calls the USA home and develops those products here. He has given millions of us jobs. He has given millions of products that make our lives easier. He helps defend our country and he helps propel our country to greater heights. Literally. You don't have to like him but at least stay out of the fvcking way.

Tell me again about all those products that Elon "created"?

Actually Edison is a great example. Never made shit stole weaker people's ideas and took credit for them.

Have you used Starlink yet?

And while he didn't start the company Tesla (who cares), Tesla has created several great products under his leadership including the worlds best selling car the Model Y.

But you claimed that he created items...

Tell me how he's any better than Steve Jobs ...

He's not. Apple only had to rely on tens of millions in gov't funding to be successful. Tesla has relied on billions of dollars in grants/loans/tax credits/etc to be successful.

In many ways Trump and Musk are a perfect pair. Both little men made successful by the work of others, and bailed out numerous times by the US Government.

Didn't say it was, although they were both pretty awful humans and terribke to their families...

I just get tired of the constant need to make him into some great genius and creator. He's neither.

1) He is a genius by all accounts.
2) He is a great leader. Richest person in the world with hundreds of thousands employed. Not disputable.
3) I dont have as much evidence to determine if he is a great creator or not, but his companies produce the best products by far.

Worried about the dude landing rockets on shoe boxes in the middle of the ocean having a plan. LOL
Sorry what? This thread is not about rockets. If Elon has a plan to lower grocery prices, then show us.

1) He's got an IQ of 130 and behaves like he's got an IQ of 160. He hasn't invented anything he claims to have founded.
2) You should listen to his employees talk about him.
3) Um no. Without federal taxpayer subsidies TSLA would be bankrupt.

None of this improves grocery prices.

It’s exactly what he’s done at Tesla. Last spring they laid off almost 7k American workers and filed 1,300 H1B applications around the same time.

And how many American workers have they hired since then? How many workers do they employ total? Lets get the whole picture. But i do agree with you, 100%, that H1B abuse must be stopped. And it does appear as if the system was being abused.

Tesla routinely hires and fires. Thats how businesses work, you have to be nimble. Thats the problem with legacy auto, they can't compete on price because they are weighed down by legacy costs they can't get rid of. It's why Elon eats their lunch.

This has been painful to read… Seems to reason these are some of the puts and takes for grocery prices:

Tariffs should increase costs, but I’m guessing that tariffs on common groceries will be minimal.

At least in the short term, reducing illegal farm labor should increase costs. We need to replace with work visas so these people are here legally and we have the cheap manpower needed. They don’t need protection from the government on minimum wage and other work protections. They don’t have it now anyways. Vet them, register them, make them pay taxes, kick them out if they break the law. Very simple.

Lowering energy costs should lower prices.

Removing some regulations could lower prices, but I’m hoping RFK adds regulation to our food supply. We desperately need to remove harmful ingredients. If they do that, short term costs should increase.

TL;DR, not sure how prices actually come down. Maybe they do - not sure. Not betting on it though. I’m fine if they don’t if we clean up the immigration issue, diversify away from Chinese imports and improve the quality of our food supply. Hopefully all of those things happen.
As you were stating we desperately need to remove harmful ingredients. And these assholes don’t like that.

So I think I've pieced together how the current administration may be trying to lower grocery prices folks.
I think by adding tariffs to imports they will drive the cost of capital up, enriching the rich, and they will cause a recession which will cause the labor pool to be larger, driving down salaries and driving down demand. Thus lowering costs, on the back of the working people.
Meanwhile, while these small business go bankrupt during the recession, them and their venture capitalist buddies in black rock can buy more and more of america at a discounted rate.
