Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) showed only 837 people have died in Haiti since the pandemic began, with a vaccination rate of 1.4% of the 11.4 million population.
“In Haiti, from 3 January 2020 to 5:03 pm CEST, 7 July 2022, there have been 31,703 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 837 deaths, reported to WHO. As of 24 June 2022, a total of 342,724 vaccine doses have been administered,” according to the data from WHO.

As of June 24, only 1.4% of the population was fully vaccinated. Haiti had a population of 11,681,526 people as of Thursday, July 7, 2022, according to the data from Worldometers.

What is worrisome is how long the waves are lasting. Last year, Denmark’s wave lasted from middle of November till the middle of March. This year it started from the beginning of November and it doesn’t seem to be letting up. This year’s footprint is quite troublesome in all four countries.

Once a shining beacon on how to deal with COVID-19, today South Korea stands at the foot of a monster death spike. It accomplished this with 86.95% of the population fully vaccinated.

Hong Kong – 89%
The chart speaks for itself. Either the vaccines didn’t work, or the lockdowns only postponed the inevitable.

Malta – 92%
Another country that beat its all-time record. Malta even imposed fresh new lockdowns in January while the population was over 90% vaccinated.

I think the vaccine probably mitigated some case severity and helped with healthcare system strain (which was the biggest initial factor in lockdowns btw). But at this point, I think we can all agree that it should be voluntary and the impact for reasonably healthy people under 50-60 is minor.

It’s time to move on with no masks, minimal testing and no vaccine requirements. Sort of like the flu, which is what COVID is at this point.

This is fair. My company actually just removed the vax requirement to enter our offices starting 7/1. But with most of our work being at client sites, we are beholden to whatever the client policies are and most I’ve seen are vax still required. But in accounting it’s fascinating bc all the corp positions that aren’t revenue generating are almost full time remote now, so in turn we are too. It’s really a weird landscape

I was made aware of a CDC directive 3/23/20 to health care providers to label anyone dying who was positive as a Covid death. This has grossly inflated the actual death numbers. Factoring in just these two truths, it was clear this was not anything to commit economic suicide over. I then realized this was not done to “control” the virus. It was done to control the population.In July of 2020 80% of US counties has two or less Covid deaths, 50% had zero. There never was a “national emergency “ It was also clear the government policy was the opposite of 100 years of scientifically established protocol. The world wide death toll from the lockdowns is probably in the millions. UNICEF estimates at least 200,000 children died in Asia alone from the lockdowns. COVID policy was rarely implemented with a clearly delineated or meaningful goal in mind.

Ensuring that hospitals didn’t overfill was a legitimate concern. Panic over new case numbers without further context or nuance was idiotic, as was shutting down schools and large parts of society. Not nearly enough concern was paid to mental health.

There will be no shortage of Monday morning quarterbacks for sure. That said, it was plainly obvious to many of us that excessive school closures, masking kids far beyond logic, vilifying people who chose not to get vaccinated, etc was bizarre and irrational behavior related to COVID. People absolutely lost their grasp on good common sense and some of us were able to navigate this thing more clear eyed than others. Thankfully that’s becoming more obvious as we clear the fog of this thing.

Personally, we were fortunate. Our family (including grandparents) is all local and we live on the water, so outdoor activity was able to continue, family interaction continued and isolation wasn't much of a thing. We didn't suffer much from the absurdity of closing beaches, boat ramps, parks, etc either, but many kids did.

Minimal impact at school as well since we live in SC, my youngest was home with a nanny and my oldest was in private school. We did deal with a few months of virtual learning, which was absolutely terrible and I watched even my 4 year old decline absent the routine of school, friends, etc. Then he endured more absurdity of masking 5 year olds during kindergarten, which is the grade where kids begin learning to read, sounding out words and other items that benefit from seeing mouth movements. Certainly nothing like older kids in other areas who missed much more time and much more significant coursework, not to mention perhaps not having as positive of a home situation from which school is a positive escape.

But like I said, the impact to us was mild due to the ages of our kids and where we live. I feel terrible for older kids who lived in far more restrictive environments, surrounded by adults who themselves were more coo coo about Covid. And pretty much every journal and study is concluding that the trauma of Covid restrictions is having widespread mental health effects on kids. Hence my comment.

We're going to be dealing with the ramifications of it for a while as well. Virtual learning set a lot of kids back, and then you have the mental health concerns with large segments of society.
